Florida Republican Governor Ron DeSantis has coined a new phrase: "the Acela media." His reference was to the high-speed AMTRAK train that travels between Washington, D.C., and Boston. DeSantis was indirectly criticizing the major media that have headquarters along that corridor, media that largely decides what Americans will know--or not know--about the COVID-19 virus and other subjects. Watching the daily White House press briefings about the virus appears to have put reporters' biases on naked display. Someone should come up with videos comparing how the press practically worshipped President Obama and his spokespeople with softball questions to the confrontational, ideologically slanted and "gotcha" questions thrown at President Trump.

There is simply no other way to state this. Nearly everything we’ve been told about models, rates of infection, deaths, and recoveries was inaccurate. I’m not here to argue that it was malfeasance or ignorance — both are unacceptable. But the one thing that Governor Andrew Cuomo’s stunning announcement made clear on Thursday is that there are some pretty shocking — and what should be — reassuring truths. Cuomo announced that antibody testing in New York state, which only began four days previous, was already demonstrating that at minimum 13.9% of New Yorkers, had COVID-19 late stage antibodies.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi encouraged visitors to “come to Chinatown” in San Francisco while New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio told residents “to go on with your lives” and “get out on the town.” Positions have since aligned politically, though, with Democrats now favoring extended lockdowns with no release dates in sight, while conservatives, Republicans, some libertarian thinkers, and even a few Democrats are demanding we all be freed to make our own decisions. As puzzling as it might seem, there’s an obvious explanation: Democrats realized lockdowns could

Sheriffs in southern border states say the billion-dollar business of drug smuggling is being rocked by the perfect storm of unfavorable conditions, potentially spurring higher prices in the United States as supply dries up. Residents from South America up through Mexico have been locked down under stay-at-home orders in a similar fashion as people in the U.S., making it harder for the cartels to transport drugs to the U.S. southern border. A March 20 Trump administration ban on all nonessential travel at border crossings between the U.S. and Mexico made it more challenging for smugglers to move drugs in vehicles through ports of entry.
