Especially while trying to paint your party as The Defender of Muh Democracy? Gee, they may be on to something here!
This took place relatively late in the evening, which makes the tentative nature of this discussion so very, very amusing. The chyron that appears below NBC's Lester Holt and Biden flack Jen Psaki shows NBC's call of the state of Washington, which took place as all three Blue Wall states flashed red for at least an hour. The New York Times "dials" had at this point given Trump >70% chance of winning each of them, as I recall, with Pennsylvania and its decisive 19 Electoral College electors already a near-lock.

Chancellor Olaf Scholz announced Wednesday he had dismissed Finance Minister Christian Lindner, bringing an end to Germany's ruling coalition after months of political wrangling and raising the possibility of snap elections in March.
The three-year-old union between Scholz's Social Democratic Party (SPD), the Greens and Lindner's Free Democratic Party (FDP) had been on shaky ground for some time, with differing budget and economic policy positions causing tensions and clashes. Speaking at a press conference late Wednesday, Scholz launched a tirade against Lindner, saying he was not concerned about serving for the common good and he was dismissed to prevent harm to the country.

In 2016, roughly 87% of Trump voters were white. But in 2024, nearly one in five Trump voters were black, Latino, Native American, or “people of color.”
The media were flabbergasted. After all, the Democrats did everything they could to disrupt Trump’s momentum with minorities: They called him Hitler. They called him a racist. They called him a fascist. They called him a white supremacist.
But throughout all their hysterical name-calling, they overlooked one important thing: Illegal immigration was disproportionately injuring non-white Americans.
If you’re a rich white liberal, illegal immigration is a net positive.

President-elect Donald Trump — fresh off his emphatic victory over Vice President Kamala Harris — is spending Wednesday with his team in Palm Beach strategizing about how to fill out his second administration.
The Trump transition team has been at work for months and are preparing for an internal “unveiling,” campaign adviser Brian Hughes told The Post — though the discussion among aides this week is expected to focus on process rather than particular nominee names.
Sources close to the Trump campaign said they expect a series of Republican Senate victories to ease Trump’s return to power — allowing him greater flexibility to go with his gut and pick Cabinet secretaries

McALLEN, Texas — Former President Donald Trump won all of the South Texas border counties on Tuesday night, further proving that Republican voters are increasing in this once-Democratic stronghold region.
Trump beat Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris in the eight counties bordering Mexico from the Gulf of Mexico to the eastern side of the Big Bend region — a distance spanning over 400 miles. This includes the South Texas counties of Cameron, Hidalgo, Starr, Zapata, Webb, Maverick, Kinney and Val Verde. Trump won Cameron County — a traditionally Democratic stronghold — by nearly 19,000 votes.

Donald Trump is projected to win the state of Arizona, clinching a major battleground state, according to Decision Desk HQ.
Arizona is one of seven swing states that held the key to whether Trump or Vice President Harris returned to the White House. The Grand Canyon State went for Trump in 2016 by 3.5 points, but the former president narrowly lost it in 2020 against President Biden by just over a quarter of a percentage point. Trump has secured the 270 electoral votes needed to win the White House following a roughly 100-day campaign between him and Harris. With the Arizona win

On Wednesday evening, Decision Desk HQ officially called Arizona's 11 electoral votes in favor of President Elect Donald Trump. Officials from the state had previously warned that it could take days or even weeks for the results to come in, especially due to Maricopa County. (X) While such a win was nevertheless expected given the polling trends, it still represents a flip from 2020, when President Joe Biden won the state.

The 2024 presidential campaign is ending pretty much where it began: loathing the never-ending presence of Donald Trump. On the day before the election, The New York Times front page displayed a gaudy editorial (badly disguised as "News Analysis") under the title "Torrent of Lies Redefines Political Norms." Doesn't that sound like a hard-charging rerun of 2016? Nothing ever seems to change from the paper that gaudily proclaimed under Trump that "The Truth Is More Important Now Than Ever."
You can point and laugh, since The New York Times refused to admit that Hunter Biden's laptop full of corruption details was authentic until 2022,

Before the election I wondered if this would happen. After universal mail-out ballots had been curbed in some places for the 2024 election, and despite same-day registration and voting and even outlawing voter ID in California, would America have the same numbers of voters as 2020? Would they show back up?
At this point, it looks as if there could be a significant reduction in Democrat voters from 2020 to 2024. Votes are still being tabulated, however. Some of these votes may reappear.
Questions abound. Take a look at one of the graphs put out on X by ZeroHedge: t's a serious concern. Explanations poured in all day Wednesday

Two controversial ballot initiatives concerning illegal immigration and abortion easily passed at the ballot box on Nov. 5 with broad support from voters.
Proposition 314, a statutory amendment referred by the Arizona Legislature, prohibits illegal immigrants from entering the state directly from a foreign country at any location other than a lawful port of entry.
The law effectively empowers Arizona law enforcement officers to arrest illegal immigrants. It also bars illegal immigrants from knowingly submitting false documents to apply for public benefits or a job and makes it a class 2 felony for an adult to knowingly sell fentanyl that later causes the death of another person.

Tuesday night’s results were definitive enough that there is reason to hope we may have just closed one of the worst chapters in American history. The political lesson of the Trump era has been glaringly obvious since he first came down the escalator. The system does not work for too many people, and those people want change. Instead of acknowledging this simple and clear fact, with all the implications it entails, America’s elites descended into a decade of insanity.

The Democrats’ replacement candidate was missing in action on election night, when she skipped her scheduled post-election appearance at her alma mater Howard University.
Even as the writing was on the wall, as Election Day turned to the day after, Harris’ campaign chief Jen Brigid O’Malley-Dillon (the ultimate elitist-white-female-sounding name), told the dejected stragglers —

ANN ARBOR, Mich. — President-elect Donald Trump has won Michigan — adding 15 electoral votes to his total and nearly completing a sweep of the swing states.
Trump leads Vice President Kamala Harris 49.8% to 48.3%, with 98% of votes counted, the Associated Press reports.
Arizona is the only swing state left to be called — and the Republican ex-prez has won every other.
Ahead of the polls opening, election guru Nate Silver insisted a win in Michigan for Trump would all but seal the 2024 election for the former president.
With his triumph in the midwestern state, Trump has managed to repeat his 2016 victory, in which he turned the state red

Wednesday, during an appearance on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” the morning after the presidential election, network host Al Sharpton speculated on who was to blame for Vice President Kamala Harris’ apparent defeat.
Sharpton took a shot at the American voter, attributing race and gender bias to Trump’s success.
“Probably ‘shock’ would be the word for many at the Howard University party, and then ‘disbelief,'” he said about his view from being at the Harris’ election night event. “I think that is also what we’ve got to deal with —

Vice President Kamala Harris can still become the first female President of the United States of America — but only if President Joe Biden resigns.
Harris lost decisively to former President Donald Trump — now president-elect Trump — on Tuesday, dashing hopes that a woman would finally break through the “glass ceiling” and reach the Oval Office. But she still can — if Biden follows through on a promise to be a “transitional” candidate, and steps aside for Harris.
If he does not, Biden will have consigned Harris to the ignominious task of presiding over the Senate during the certification of Donald Trump’s victory over her on January 6.

Sorry, Chuck Schumer: You’re set to become Senate minority leader as Republicans recapture the Senate.
That’s darn cheery news for the nation, especially with Donald Trump winning the White House.
The GOP went into the race holding 49 seats to the Democrats’ 51 (including independents caucusing with them), with a near-lock to pick up more at least two seats. Sure enough, in West Virginia, Republican Jim Justice flipped the Democratic seat Sen. Joe Manchin left open — and did so in what seemed to be the making of a landslide.
In Ohio, Republican Bernie Moreno beat incumbent Dem Sherrod Brown, with Tim Sheehy overwhelmingly expected to oust Sen. Jon Tester in Montana,

President Donald Trump is not the first president to return to the White House after losing a previous reelection bid, but he is the first to do it after being impeached twice and facing mass resignations of Cabinet secretaries at the close of his first term. The depths from which Trump has risen to regain the most powerful office in the world is a testament to his determination and skill as a communicator. But it is also a searing indictment of a political establishment that has ignored and condemned voters’ legitimate concerns about the direction of the country.

As the smoke clears over a long and grueling 2024 election, people are naturally reflecting and taking stock of the result. Opinions are going to fly, but I think if anyone summed up the results the best so far, I'd have to give that to CNN contributor Scott Jennings.
Last night, Jennings sat on a panel with dumbfounded CNN talking heads who, judging by all the other clips, couldn't seem to wrap their heads around how Donald Trump, a man they convinced themselves was the epitome of evil and corruption, could have won the election.

US stocks rose sharply Wednesday morning following a decisive and consequential victory for former President Donald Trump in Tuesday’s US presidential election.
The Dow soared 1,309 points, or 3% in morning trading, reaching a new high. This is the first time the Dow has gained more than 1,000 points in a single day since November 2022. If the Dow maintains its implied gains throughout the trading session, it will mark the sixth-best point gain ever for the index — but nowhere close to a record percentage gain.
The S&P 500 and the tech-heavy Nasdaq both rose by 1.9%.

The final Real Clear Politics average of national polls between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris showed the Vice-President was ahead by one-tenth of one percent. And it is glorious.
Trump not only won an Electoral College landslide (he's likely to get 312 Electoral College votes in the end) but he's also projected to win the popular vote. A true mandate if there ever was.

Donald Trump has been reelected, and the self-appointed arbiters of acceptable opinion in the establishment media are struggling to adjust to new realities. As they do so, they’re giving us a textbook display of what it looks like to go through most of the classic stages of grief: denial, anger, depression, and acceptance. And even though Trump’s victory was comprehensive and inarguable, we know from long experience that they’re going to have the hardest time with that last one.
Denial was on abundant display on Monday, the day before the election, when PBS told us happily that “Harris has a 4-point lead over Trump in final PBS News/NPR/Marist election poll.”

The state’s famed “Pennsylvania Dutch” registered to vote in “unprecedented numbers” in response to a January federal raid on a local raw milk farm in Bird in Hand, Pa., a source familiar with the situation told The Post.
The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture stormed Amos Miller’s farm Jan. 4 after reports of illnesses in children linked to raw dairy products purchased there, according to the local media outlet Lancaster Farming.
The Amish community saw the move as an overzealous reach by the government

The writing was seemingly on the wall shortly before midnight on Election Day when CNN all but called the race for former President Trump. The so-called journalists were somber as they basically resigned themselves to a second Trump presidency; laughably admitting that Vice President Harris “could not out run the Biden economy” the media had been telling Americans they were too stupid to understand. “Generally speaking, he is over performing with what he did in 2020 and she is underperforming what Joe Biden did in 2020.

Nebraska U.S. Sen. Deb Fischer won her re-election race against independent Dan Osborn, which ended up being one of the most competitive and closely watched Senate races in the state.
This will be the Republican incumbent's third term in Congress after she was initially elected in 2012, when she became the first female senator from Nebraska to serve a full term. The Associated Press called the race for Fischer, who led Osborn by 3 percentage points with about 70% of the expected votes.
Her victory also paves the way for Republicans looking to flip Senate control. Democrats currently have a 51-49 majority and numerous news outlets

Pennsylvania Presidential Election Results 2024: Several news outlets suggest that Trump is favoured in Pennsylvania. He currently leads in the vote count and is projected to maintain his advantage as the remaining ballots are tallied. Pennsylvania, with the largest number of electoral votes among battleground states, is crucial in determining the next president. Winning the state is essential for both candidates, as the path to victory without it would be challenging.
Known as the Keystone State, Pennsylvania is expected to play a decisive role in this election.

MSNBC host Lawrence O’Donnell said Tuesday on his network’s election coverage that the Electoral College was a form of voter suppression during his network’s election coverage.
O’Donnell said, “I would like to issue an apology to all of those states we have not mentioned. It is not our fault, it is the founding fathers, they decided on this thing called the Electoral College. Which interestingly, no other country in the world decided to copy. Because of that, in presidential terms, in effect on nights like this, you have a right to think that it feels like no one cares about your vote.

We come to election day and there are signs that liberals embedded in the US state apparatus have understood how powerful the Donald Trump campaign has become, they smell a 2016 redux in the air, and they started planning accordingly.
Departing from the time-honored tradition of spending taxpayer money in the usual watch parties, Diplomats and officials read the writing on the wall and there will be silence instead, as Politico reported:
“The reason? The Trump effect. Many officials are still smarting from the shock 2016 election, when Donald Trump unexpectedly beat Hillary Clinton for the presidency — a political earthquake that left many top members of America’s diplomatic corps exposed

Iowa GOP politicians react to former President Donald Trump winning the Hawkeye state on Election Day, according to unofficial results from the Associated Press Tuesday night.
Collecting Iowa’s six electoral college votes, Trump led in the state with 55.6 percent of the vote, compared to Harris’ 43 percent, with 54 percent of the state reporting.
The Associated Press called the state for Trump at 9:42 p.m. late Tuesday night.
The former president’s win in Iowa follows the Des Moines Register/Mediacom poll that found Harris had picked up a three-point lead in the state, a lead within the poll’s margin of error.

Republicans have secured the majority in the United States Senate, according to a projection from Decision Desk.
The Ohio Senate race solidified this victory. It was called by Decision Desk at 10:50 p.m. (X)
This seat flip would push Republicans past the threshold for the majority. This week, NPR reported that the top races to watch for the Senate were in Arizona, Nevada, Michigan, Montana, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, and Ohio. Many of these are battleground states and will determine who becomes president.
In September, Townhall reported how Michigan Democrat Rep. Elissa Slotkin, who ran for the state’s Senate seat, said that internal polling showed Vice President Kamala Harris “underwater.”

The Kamala campaign told their staffers to go home and get some sleep as President Trump dominates the crucial battleground states.
The media is refusing to call the election for President Trump as the Kamala camp scrambles to find more ballots.
“As polls close across the country, I wanted to give everyone an update on what we’re seeing. As we have known all along, this is a razor thin race. Thanks to this amazing team, we have seen incredible turnout across the Battleground States, and the closeness of the race is exactly what we prepared for,” the memo read.

The Republican National Committee (RNC) forced officials in Centre County, Pennsylvania, to continue counting ballots throughout the night, countering a plan by local election officials to halt the count, a move some feared could mirror the late-night disruptions seen during the controversial 2020 election.
The RNC’s legal team quickly intervened, arguing that the decision was in direct violation of state law, which mandates continuous counting of ballots.
After the RNC threatened legal action, officials agreed to resume counting, ensuring that all ballots cast by Pennsylvania voters are processed without delay.

The Fox News Decision Desk projected Republican businessman Bernie Moreno will win his race for Senate in Ohio against Democratic incumbent Sen. Sherrod Brown. [Snip] "We talked about wanting to have a red wave. I think what we have tonight is a red, white and blue wave in this country," Moreno said at an election night event in Westlake, Ohio after his victory was projected. "We're tired of being treated like second-class citizens in our own country. We're tired of leaders who think we're garbage--tired of being treated like garbage," he added, alluding to a recent comment made by President Biden about supporters of former President Trump.

CNN anchor Jake Tapper appeared stunned Tuesday during a live broadcast as early polling data revealed a dramatic 20-point shift among independent voters in Georgia toward former President Donald Trump compared to what President Joe Biden got in 2020.
During CNN’s “Election Night in America” coverage, Tapper seemed surprised by the results of Georgia’s exit poll centers for independent voters who now favor Trump by 11 points. These results are a dramatic reversal from the 9-point advantage Biden held four years ago.

It’s finally over, and the 2024 presidential campaign made history in at least one ignominious respect: Broadcast evening news coverage of the candidates was the most wildly imbalanced in history, favoring Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris over former Republican President Donald Trump by the greatest margin ever recorded.
The final Media Research Center (MRC) study released last week showed evaluative coverage of Harris — excluding “horse race” assessments — on ABC, CBS and NBC was 78% positive vs. 22% negative. For Trump, those numbers were flipped: just 15% positive press, vs. 85% negative coverage. Subtracting Trump’s positive press from Harris’s,

Vice President Kamala Harris' watch party quickly fell 'silent' in the final hour of Election Day as former President Donald Trump captured the first swing state of the night.
A DJ loudly played party music as Democrats watched a soundless CNN on jumbotron screens. The volume only came on the TVs to announce Harris' wins - Washington, Hawaii and then Virginia.
The DJ's playlist would pound again when John King back on-screen to report how Harris' path had narrowed. Some of Harris supporters were spotted hugging, as a Trump win looked more and more certain.

The New York Times brings clarity to the state of the presidential race this evening. The Times assesses that President Trump has an 89 percent chance of victory at the moment. That’s up from 69 percent a few hours ago. The Times estimates that Trump will win with 301 electoral college votes. The accompanying text is somewhat more conservative: “Trump has won in North Carolina and is very likely to take Georgia. To win, Harris will probably need to sweep Pennsylvania, Michigan and Wisconsin — but Trump has an advantage in all three.” It looks to be a historic comeback victory.

If you’re a Kamala supporter, you might be reaching for a bottle of bleach right now. It’s been reported that the vibes are bad at her campaign headquarters in Washington, DC. The joy is dead, run over by the reality that Kamala Harris was unqualified and lacked the intelligence to do the job. (X, Videos) Now, her campaign is no longer commenting on the state of the race and is not going to concede the race tonight. Jen O’Malley Dillon, Kamala’s campaign manager, just delivered the “get some sleep and get ready to close out strong tomorrow” address to the troops, which is political speak for we lost.

Donald Trump will take the 30 Electoral College votes in his home state of Florida - but winning one county will be particularly satisfying for the former president.
The Associated Press called the race just an hour after polls closed with Trump ahead of Vice President Kamala Harris by more than 11 percent with 86 percent of the vote reported.
Florida was previously a swing state but in recent elections has moved further and further to the right. In this election almost every region in the state shifted Republican, including historically blue counties.

Republican Bernie Moreno has won the Ohio Senate race after the close of one of the most contentious and competitive races in the country. All eyes were on Ohio to see if Republicans would take the seat and solidify a new majority in the Senate.
Moreno had taken a very late polling average lead against Democrat incumbent Sherrod Brown, though Brown was always seen as a tough out given the incumbent advantage inherent in senate races.
Republicans and Democrats poured tons of money into the state, overwhelming the airwaves while rally after rally was held by the candidates. In the end

The New York Times’ Needle lives: The newspaper’s popular election-prediction gauge made its return on Tuesday night — despite the ongoing strike called Monday by the union representing tech employees at the paper.
The NY Times’ Needle, first introduced in 2016, estimates the final outcome of an election based on partial election results. As more results come in, the Needle changes to signal the likelihood of the final outcome of a given race — with “tossup” at the center position and gradations marked “lean,” “likely” and “very likely” on either side for the Democratic and Republican candidates.
“The Needle is live!” Nate Cohn, the Times’ chief political analyst
