Los Angelenos tired of increased crime and rampant homelessness overwhelmingly voted out soft-on-crime, far-left district attorney George Gascón on Tuesday in favor of Nathan Hochman, a prosecutor with a more moderate approach.
Hochman, a former federal prosecutor and a Republican-turned-independent, won the race with 61.5 percent of the vote to Gascón’s 38.5 percent, according to Los Angeles County Registrar vote totals as of Wednesday morning. The Associated Press called the race for Hochman early Wednesday.

US stocks rose sharply Wednesday morning following a decisive and consequential victory for former President Donald Trump in Tuesday’s US presidential election.
The Dow soared 1,309 points, or 3% in morning trading, reaching a new high. This is the first time the Dow has gained more than 1,000 points in a single day since November 2022. If the Dow maintains its implied gains throughout the trading session, it will mark the sixth-best point gain ever for the index — but nowhere close to a record percentage gain.
The S&P 500 and the tech-heavy Nasdaq both rose by 1.9%.
It’s still a bit early in the counting but it appears that Democrats and Kamala Harris not only lost the 2024 election to former President Donald Trump but they lost around 15 million votes in the past four years.

CNN anchor Jake Tapper is going viral for his stunned reaction early Wednesday when told that Vice President Kamala Harris had failed to outperform President Biden’s 2020 results in a single state.
Tapper asked CNN chief national correspondent John King to pull up a graphic showing in which states Harris had gotten at least 3% more votes than Biden had in the last election — just to be presented with a gray map reflecting her failure even in that.

This will be the Republican incumbent's third term in Congress after she was initially elected in 2012, when she became the first female senator from Nebraska to serve a full term. The Associated Press called the race for Fischer, who led Osborn by 3 percentage points with about 70% of the expected votes.
Her victory also paves the way for Republicans looking to flip Senate control. Democrats currently have a 51-49 majority and numerous news outlets
Pennsylvania Presidential Election Results 2024: Several news outlets suggest that Trump is favoured in Pennsylvania. He currently leads in the vote count and is projected to maintain his advantage as the remaining ballots are tallied. MSNBC host Lawrence O’Donnell said Tuesday on his network’s election coverage that the Electoral College was a form of voter suppression during his network’s election coverage.

Collecting Iowa’s six electoral college votes, Trump led in the state with 55.6 percent of the vote, compared to Harris’ 43 percent, with 54 percent of the state reporting.

The New York Times brings clarity to the state of the presidential race this evening. The Times assesses that President Trump has an 89 percent chance of victory at the moment. That’s up from 69 percent a few hours ago. The Times estimates that Trump will win with 301 electoral college votes. The accompanying text is somewhat more conservative: “Trump has won in North Carolina and is very likely to take Georgia.
