It’s no secret that some humanoid robotics companies are training their machines for work on factory floors, while others are positioning their bots to enter homes in the coming years.
One of the first real signs of humanoids entering homes today is a new cleaning service in San Francisco that uses what appear to be Unitree humanoid robots trained to clean everything from floors and countertops to stovetops, mirrors, and nearly any surface in the house. Called “Gatsby,” the new service deploys humanoid robots to homes for a flat service charge of $150. “We just made U.S. history. Today, Gatsby ran the first-ever consumer cleaning by a humanoid robot

"The goal of tech firms is very clear: deploy these bots first on factory floors, in warehouses, and at logistics hubs, then move into consumer markets once the machines become reliable enough for home use. Once these bots enter the consumer market, they will begin to chip away at demand for migrant labor"

Do they have stories about the tribulations of their children? If not, they are not real maids.

Then what will immigrants do? This is indeed a dark day. Next, these robots will probably be taught to ask, 'Do you want fries with that?' Guess people will need to learn to code.

Let me know when they come up with a $150 humanoid Congressman or Senator that will reliably follow the constitution, not take kickbacks, and understands enough about the failures of socialism to never go there and I'm ready to vote them in ASAP.

Some NYC hotels might consider these.

Sorry, no robot is going to do the detail work that cleaning a bathroom toilet, shower or sink requires. Kitchen, too.

But will they clean the sidewalks in front of your house? In San Francisco that would be a plus.

@5, Hey, I think you're on to something! Unfortunately, it'll never happen, but it's a great fantasy!

Has anyone watched the Terminator movies? Between AI and robotics, the world is going down that steep slippery slope. Forever grateful that I'm pushing 70 and not in my 20s.

From experience, it is hard to find reliable and trustworthy "maid" service. Robots will eventually fill that role and the people that are displaced will have to learn other skills and do other jobs. Technology and machines CONTINUALLY replace low end labor and industries are created or expand to take advantage of newly available labor from jobs that are obsolete. While there is some negative disruption during the shifting around, in the end, everyone is better off.

My thoughts run the same as #6, as I recently read an article on the Noo Yawk hotel maid unions 'negotiating' a contract where the maids will be paid more than newly-hired police, firefighters, or nurses.

Yeah, I would respond to a robot maid in my house worse than I respond to those aggravating robots in the supermarket aisles.

The robot maid will conspire with the refrigerator and your iPhone to poison you, steal your clothes and bank account, then abscond to Columbia with the Rumba.

If your house was empty, as in recently been sold, perhaps.
Other than that, I don't see it.
