Zohran Mamdani Just Announced Plans to Begin Seizing and Redistributing Private Property

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani kicked off his plan to “fix” the city’s affordability crisis with his official housing policy agenda, titled “Block by Block,” under which one of the first priorities is to allow the government to seize property from owners deemed “negligent” and redistribute it to so-called “responsible stewards,” a category that includes anyone from land trusts, nonprofits, or even tenants themselves.

This guy has to be stopped! Let's see if the City Council has the coglones to step up. This is the warm embrace of collectivism.

First he will say he only wants the neglected properties then an excuse will be applied to better properties for minor problems. The slightest thing, bad lighting, peeling wallpaper etc etc. Seize a buildings and turn it into ghetto housing. If NYC worries about the outflow of tax paying citizens now, just wait.

This will no doubt be Mandami’s first introduction to the US SC. Considering the makeup of this Court he will lose.

The Soviets probably left behind some old blueprints on public housing units. Lots of gray concrete is the order of the day.

New Yorkers voted for this clown and his campaign promises by a wide margin. Congratulations! You got the government that you chose and deserve.
Enjoy the suck. Just do come crying to the other 49 states for a bailout when your economy goes Tango Uniform.

#13, I recall reading that native Noo Yawkers voted 60% for the other guy.
It was the 'recent arrivals' from who-knows-where that put this Commie in office.
It's the 'Rat Population Replacement scheme in action.

This will work out badly, and most New Yorkers will suffer the most harm. Socialists...
I hope that either the US or New York Supreme Court will intervene, perhaps in an emergency session, before too much damage is done.

Let me guess. The first building to be seized will be Trump Tower because there is litter on the sidewalk in front of the building.

Mamdani will go after rent controlled buildings where the owners were unable to update things or got behind on some insane new NYC housing regulations due to the rent controls and lack of funds. Even if perfectly safe, he would deem them non compliant and take them.

iMadman is a communist Muslim thief who will be shut down by the courts. Thus guy needs to be taken by the collar and the belt, swung back and forth, then released to see how many stairs he can clear on the way down.

Maybe, since he has city housing, he could confiscate the house he owns and is not using as he has the Mayor's property.

Next step: jail resistant small owners for
"obstruction of implementation of municipal general health policy."
Who else would he pick to carry it out?
Who would refuse to?

While I would love to think the courts will put a stop to this, Kelo remains the law of the land, and even the current Supreme Court has passed on several chances to overturn it. Madman Mon will likely get his chance to ruin New York as thoroughly as he plans to. It’s sad, but then I remember Mencken’s take on thr definition of democracy.

It always amuses and irritates me to no end, to watch Americans yell, "Constitutional! That's against the Constitution!!" only when their money or property are all of a sudden threatened. They couldn't give a rip about the Constitution -- whatever they know about it -- ever in their lives, were it not for the sand and gravel that find their way into their shoes. NYC + the rest of the country had months to examine and pushback against this very ignorant and arrogant islamic communist (what a mix!) from an elite and filthy rich family in Africa. So in their rabid TDS, they decided to go for the novelty of a young demagogue that would somehow tackle the self-inflicted ills New Yorkers always complain about in their decadent, capitalist environment. Well here you are, now LIVE with it. And coming from a communist country as I do, the headline reminded me of Matthew's gospel in 14:8, these are the “beginning of sorrows." I have no dog in this fight, I don't live in NY and, frankly, I no longer care: those voters prefer to trash the country and pay attention to the leftist brainwashing going on in academia, than face a hardcore conversation on the merits of the mayor and his obscene ideas that have never produced anything positive. Castro confiscated all private property right after he took power and, as a child, he took away the tiny wooden house my family had built at great sacrifice. I never thought I'd see this again, but I've learned in life that people do not learn from instruction, as much as they learn in the great school of hard knocks.

The courts might stop this or the litigation could drag on for years. It is now to the point that I don't care what happens to NYC as long as they don't come for the rest of us to bail them out or push them to my state. The commie Muslim is doing his best to drive out the people who would have to pay for this foolishness. I hope the liberal, elite New Yorkers can get by with half the fine restaurants, Broadway plays etc. I also wonder about the small businesses who own their own buildings, the mom-and-pop stores, bodegas. Will he include them? And how is he going to buy them out? The free buses, subways, childcare will be taking out their big share. If this weren't so sad, it would be entertaining to watch the coming debacle and excuses from the usual media hacks.
