As Robert F. Kennedy Jr. prepares for his Senate confirmation hearings to become the next secretary of health and human services, one issue will be impossible to avoid: abortion and abortion pills. The removal of Food and Drug Administration safety measures on the pill during Covid lockdowns, including the in-person visit and follow-up care requirement, has created significant risks for women, [Snip] By requiring medical oversight for abortion pills, the federal government would take a bipartisan step to protect women from avoidable harm. Reinstating REMS would not ban the abortion pill but ensure it is used with the same safety standards applied to other high-risk drugs.

Only 10 days into President Donald Trump’s second term it’s abundantly clear that Christians who opposed his presence in the White House and condemned their brethren for supporting it have some repenting to do. Never Trumpers spent the last decade weaponizing their faith to demonize Christian Trump supporters. By the time the 2024 election rolled around, they had proudly endorsed the radical, openly anti-Christian Joe Biden stand-in for president. [Snip] Christ-followers are indeed called to be faithful regardless of who is president. But Christians who donate to, promote, and vote for candidates who proudly assault the kingdom of God are undoubtedly complicit in that attack.

Sunday, CBS News’ Margaret Brennan tried to get one over on Vice President J.D. Vance, badgering him about immigration and claiming “this is a country founded by immigrants.” But this narrative isn’t just inaccurate, it’s a calculated lie... Vance held his own, refuting the baseless claim by noting the country was founded “by some immigrants and some settlers”... [Snip] Britain began establishing the 13 original colonies in the early 1600’s. Over the next century or so, hundreds of thousands of Brits moved to the British colonies that were established by settlers--not immigrants. There was no “nation” being immigrated to by the first settlers.

In his second inaugural address, President Donald Trump declared that the “weaponization of our Justice Department and our government will end” and that he would “re-balance” the scales of justice. He now faces an important decision: whether to investigate the founders of the lawfare campaigns against him... [Snip] Turning lawfare on its creators is not about revenge. [Snip] Justice requires a thorough investigation. Obtaining phone records and emails, reviewing White House logs, and putting witnesses under oath before Congress or a grand jury...the Justice Department should defend the constitutional rights of candidate Trump and his voters against those who abused the criminal justice system to win an election.

President Donald Trump said that the construction of an Iron Dome-like shield for the U.S. is a top priority for him on Monday, calling for "immediate" work to be done on the project before signing an executive order. [Snip] The president added that Americans "protect other countries, but we don't protect ourselves." [Snip] "And now we have phenomenal technology. You see that with Israel," Trump continued. "So I think the United States is entitled to that. And everything will be made right here in the USA 100%." "We're going next to ensure that we have the most lethal fighting force in the world."

In 2017 it took almost three months for the White House to release an official portrait of the new First Lady who in a significant break from tradition had yet to move permanently into the executive mansion. [Snip] ...Melania is captured in an ensemble that was literally a home-office style staple during her first tenure--one worn almost daily as she went about work in the White House... [Snip] A bold, confident, disciplined and always, sharply tailored boss was the Melania that the public got today and, up until now, was a woman that only those who worked closest with her were allowed to see.

Strike a pose. That's exactly what first lady Melania Trump is doing in her new official White House portrait that was released Monday afternoon. The first lady is seen in a striking power pose--leaning slightly forward with her hands resting on a table. The black and white portrait was captured by esteemed photographer Régine Mahaux. It was taken on January 21, 2024, in the Yellow Oval Room of the White House, according to the office of the first lady.

Pete Hegseth squeaked through his Senate confirmation on Friday and became America’s new secretary of defense, but he needn't thank Republican senators Mitch McConnell, Lisa Murkowski, and Susan Collins. For all three long-time establishment and anti-Trump senators, the main objection to Hegseth stepping into the top Pentagon job was that they believe he lacks the prerequisite experience to run the mammoth organization. [Snip] Never mind that Hegseth was educated at Princeton and Harvard...served more than a decade in the U.S. Army infantry...rose to the rank of major while serving tours in Afghanistan...is a published author who has led veteran advocacy organizations.

MOSCOW (AP) — Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday echoed U.S. President Donald Trump’s claim the conflict in Ukraine could have been prevented had he been in the White House in 2022. [Snip] “I couldn’t disagree with him that if he had been president, if they hadn’t stolen victory from him in 2020, the crisis that emerged in Ukraine in 2022 could have been avoided.” [Snip] Putin’s statement was his bluntest endorsement yet of Trump’s refusal to accept his defeat in the 2020 election. [Snip] On Thursday, Trump told Fox News that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy should have made a deal with Putin to avoid the conflict.

President Donald Trump and Melania Trump sent the crowd into a tizzy when they finally showed up at the Commander in Chief inaugural ball Monday night.[Snip]The first lady debuted a white and black leggy dress, which was custom-made by Hervé Pierre, the same designer who crafted her 2017 inaugural gown.[Snip]The 47th president and Melania Trump were played onto the ornate stage at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center by the Marine Band, right before 10:30 p.m., several hours after they were initially expected to arrive.[Snip]The Trumps then headed to the Liberty Ball and then the Starlight Ball before official inauguration programming ends for the day.

The Duchess of Sussex's decision to postpone the release of her long-awaited Netflix cookery show, With Love, Meghan, because of the devastation wreaked by wildfires in her home state of California has been praised by her fans. One of her favoured publications, People, reported that Meghan 'didn't think twice' about delaying the eight-part series until March. [Snip] Some courtiers are even wondering whether the postponement of her cookery programme is a commercial one. [Snip] 'Would people really want to watch a glossy TV show about someone's luxury lifestyle when thousands of Americans have seen their homes and lives destroyed?' ...

Attorneys for Rudy Giuliani and two former Georgia election workers said Thursday they have reached a tentative settlement, a remarkable twist that would end the workers’ extensive litigation to collect their $146 million defamation judgment. [Snip] The notice, which included sparse details about the settlement, indicated that the agreement would “fully resolve” the disputes and result in “the conclusion of all litigation” pending between Giuliani and Ruby Freeman and Shaye Moss. [Snip] In a statement on social platform X, Giuliani confirmed he reached an agreement with the women but said the resolution does not involve “an admission of liability or wrongdoing by any of the Parties.”
Comments:
As the authors noted, “A federal statute, 18 U.S.C. 241, prohibits conspiring to ‘injure, oppress, threaten, or intimidate’ a person exercising constitutional rights or privileges.” President Trump “had constitutional rights and privileges to run for office and govern, not to be imprisoned for contrived crimes, and not to be deprived of property based on abuse of federal and state justice systems.” Even the Biden administration believed prohibiting a candidate from running and assuming office prevents supporters of their rights to vote.
