EVs were 'the technology of the future' in 1878 when they first came out. Still are waiting for those 'just around the corner' improvements in batteries to get range and charging times to where people would actually want one. How many hundreds of millions of government money was skimmed off to the top management in this one?

These electric mass transit businesses are created and exist only by the grace of the profligate government payouts. Even then, they end up on their books as bankrupt more times than not. Boeing-Vertol streetcar company and ETI electric trolley bus company both were created only for the government transfer of wealth and ceased existing after government funding stopped.

In order for electric to become viable the batteries need to have 3 times more energy and also a reduction in size by a factor of 3 or more. That comes out to 9. So in short, batteries need to get 10 times better. And that's not going to happen until about year 2100. If ever. It's going to take time. No amount of wishing. No amount of statements from people who are not technologists that the technologists will find a way. No amount of some leader demanding. Huge breakthroughs in battery science have to happen.

EV's don't work well in the cold, or heat, over long distances. Zero emissions is an aspirational goal but not realistic in the timeline demanded by the mandates pushed by the Democrats. The best option for EV vehicles would be U.S. Postal trucks that deliver the daily mail where they only travel short distances and have a place to have them charged overnight for the next day.

The alternative to batteries is to bury electric rails in every highway or install overhead lines. That would cost more money than every government in the world can steal from its people.

#9 is correct. Maybe 25-30 years out. They need some battery breakthrough, a quick charge and more range. Right now I can fill my Toyota Camry in 10 minutes and go 400 miles plus there are thousands of gasoline stations across the country. Eventually they will be viable but I will be long gone by then. BTW, I have an EV. It's called a golf cart,BTW I must admit that I have an EV. It's called a golf cart and it's perfect for drivin around in my little lake community. In the meantime, I will stick to those planet killing vehicles.
