The Russian military is accelerating its gains along the front line in Ukraine at a crucial time for the conflict. Data from the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) shows that Russia has gained almost six times as much territory in 2024 as it did in 2023, and is advancing towards key Ukrainian logistical hubs in the eastern Donbas region. Meanwhile, Ukraine's surprise incursion into Russia's Kursk region is faltering. Russian troops have pushed Kyiv's offensive backwards. Experts have questioned the success of the offensive, with one calling it a "strategic catastrophe" given manpower shortages faced by Ukraine.

IOW, lots of people are dying on both sides, money is being wasted by the truckload and when it's over, nobody will have won anything. Typical war.

Kind of amazing that Ukraine has lasted this long. If you don't have enough troops, all the armaments in the world are not going to help you.

Target on Wednesday missed Wall Street’s quarterly earnings and revenue expectations and posted only a slight uptick in customer traffic, despite the discounter’s price cuts on thousands of items and its early holiday sale. (Snip) Target now expects fourth-quarter comparable sales to be approximately flat. That metric, which is also known as same-store sales, includes sales on its website and stores open at least 13 months. Target fell short of Wall Street’s earnings per share estimate by 20%, its biggest miss in two years. It also marked its first revenue miss since August 2023. The company’s shares plunged more than

RIO DE JANEIRO – World leaders moved on without President Joe Biden. Literally. The outgoing U.S. president missed a photo with Group of 20 leaders on Monday in Brazil after summit organizers proceeded without him. Biden and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau arrived at the waterside location just as their fellow world leaders were dispersing. Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni also missed the photo shoot, in which Chinese President Xi Jinping stood front and center. The White House said the photograph got taken earlier than planned. "Due to logistical issues, they took the photo early before all the leaders arrived'' a

President Biden has given the OK to lift restrictions that will allow Ukraine to use U.S.-provided long-range weapons to strike deep into Russian territory, a U.S. official confirmed to CBS News on Sunday. The move is a significant change to U.S. policy in the ongoing Ukraine-Russia conflict. The easing of restrictions would allow Kyiv to use the Army Tactical Missile System, or ATACMS, to hit targets inside Russia. The move also comes as some 10,000 North Korean troops were sent to Kursk near Ukraine's northern border to help Russian forces retake territory. The White House National Security Council declined to

New York — Top pollster J. Ann Selzer will retire from the Des Moines Register’s famed Iowa Poll and the survey will “evolve” after it failed to accurately capture former President Donald Trump’s strong support in the 2024 election, resulting in a 16-point miss. The announcement from Selzer comes after the Register in its final poll before Election Day delivered a bombshell result showing Vice President Kamala Harris leading Donald Trump 47-44% among likely voters in the state, raising speculation that Harris could mount a stunning upset. While other surveys had found Trump comfortably ahead of Harris in the state

OAKLAND, Calif. - A recent poll showed that Vice President Kamala Harris could have a strong advantage if she chooses to run for governor of California in 2026 when Gov. Gavin Newsom’s term ends. The survey, carried out by the University of California, Berkeley's Institute of Governmental Studies and co-sponsored by the Los Angeles Times, indicated that nearly half of the 4,838 participants might support Harris in a potential gubernatorial bid. The Times reported that Harris's support would mostly come from Democratic voters, with 72% indicating they would be very or somewhat likely to back her for governor. In contrast

Concerns have been raised over a tattoo belonging to Pete Hegseth, the Fox News host nominated by Donald Trump to lead the Department of Defense – with opinion divided over whether it is a “Christian motto” or a white nationalist dog whistle. Hegseth, an Army National Guard veteran, has the words “Deus Vult” tattooed on his bicep, which has been associated with white supremacist groups. "Deus Vult" is a Latin phrase meaning "God Wills It," and was a rallying cry for Christian crusaders in the Middle Ages. The Associated Press reported that the tattoo previously resulted in Hegseth being flagged

MINNEAPOLIS — Several business owners at the struggling corner where George Floyd was murdered by a Minneapolis police officer in 2020 are suing the city to demand it take over their properties and compensate them. The owners of the Cup Foods convenience store and other businesses operating near 38th Street and Chicago Avenue argue that the city’s failure to address deterioration and crime in the neighborhood has ruined their businesses and constitutes an unlawful taking of their property without just compensation, the Minnesota Star Tribune reported Thursday. They’re seeking $30 million in damages. The area, now known as George Floyd

Both before the November 5 presidential election and after, there’s been plenty of talk about President Joe Biden stepping down and making Vice President Kamala Harris America’s first female president. Despite ardent backing from Democratic Party stalwarts, the idea isn’t a popular one, as the latest I&I/TIPP poll indicates. Some Democrat activists, humbled by the Electoral College drubbing they took from former (and soon to be current) President Donald Trump, have pushed hard to have the age-hobbled Biden step down from the office of the presidency so that Kamala can take over and make history —

But really, the Democrats' biggest problem wasn’t fundraising; it was twofold: Their strategy sucked, and their brand ambassadors were gross. And this pattern will continue unabated unless Americans unflinchingly condemn the tactic — no matter the target.
