I have resisted saying too much about the two astronauts whose eight-day mission to the International Space Station in June has turned, perforce, into an eight-month stay, lasting (at least) until February next year. Mainly because its awful symbolism is too pathetic, in both the archaic and contemporary senses. There has been remarkably little high-level official reaction - to the point that Kamala is so oblivious to whatever's going on up there that her campaign slogan is "We're not going back." Yeah, tell it to Suni and Butch. The US used to be both sunny and butch - and the Vice President certainly has no plans to "go back"

Colt Gray, the teen suspected of gunning down four people at a Georgia high school Wednesday, has been on the FBI’s radar since last year — when he was investigated by local authorities in connection to online school shooting threats, the bureau revealed.
In May 2023, the FBI received several anonymous tips about threats to carry out violence at an unidentified school, with the harrowing posts including photos of guns, according to a Wednesday night statement from the bureau’s Atlanta field office.
The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office identified Gray, then 13, as a possible suspect and interviewed him and his father.

Your long-held suspicions are confirmed, according to a report: Your phone really is listening to you.
A marketing firm whose clients include Facebook and Google has privately admitted that it listens to users’ smartphone microphones and then places ads based on the information that is picked up, according to 404 Media.
Cox Media Group, the television and radio news conglomerate, admitted in a pitch deck to investors that its “Active Listening” software uses artificial intelligence to “capture real-time intent data by listening to our conversations,” according to the report.
“Advertisers can pair this voice-data with behavioral data to target in-market consumers,” the company wrote in the pitch deck.

At least 17 people have been shot thus far during Labor Day weekend in Chicago and three of those shooting victims have succumbed to their wounds.
ABC 7 reported that the holiday weekend’s first fatal shooting occurred just after 9:30 p.m. Friday “in the 11800 block of S. Indiana.” A 49-year-old woman was sitting on a porch when someone opened fire from inside a passing vehicle.
The woman was shot twice and first responders rushed her to the hospital, where she died.
Hours later, just after midnight Saturday, another woman was shot and killed in the “3900-block of West Ogden Avenue.”

Governor Jared Polis (D-CO) said Sunday on ABC’s “This Week” that Democrats including Vice President Kamala Harris “have always been supportive of building barriers and walls for certain parts of the border.”
Host Jon Karl said, “Another issue that didn’t come up in the CNN interview is her now apparent support for at least in some aspects, the border wall. I mean, we’ve seen in her ad, she uses images of the border wall. She says she’ll sign the Senate bill which provided $650 million for more border wall construction. She had called previously, the border wall a medieval vanity project,

Vice President Kamala Harris should promise to grow the U.S. economy by importing more migrant workers, consumers, and renters, according to a pro-migration op-ed writer at the Washington Post.
“Legal immigration is a critical component of economic growth and solvency for our entitlement programs,” columnist Jennifer Rubin declared on August 27. There is no shortage of good ideas, ranging from dropping outdated country caps to granting foreign STEM graduates green cards to clearing the green-card backlog to increased visas for seasonal workers,” Rubin added, without acknowledging the alternative strategy of growing the economy by raising Americans’ productivity.

Maybe President Joe Biden was never a serious member of the Washington, DC, establishment — like the Clintons, the Bushes, or the Obamas — or, maybe, the establishment just had no more use for him.
Either way, the knives seem to be out for the Biden family after Joe Biden stepped aside from the 2024 presidential election. In three leaks in the last month, members of the permanent political class in Washington disclosed damaging information about the Biden family.
One: Hunter Biden accepted $3,101,258 from Romanian partner Gabriel Popoviciu to “influence U.S. government agencies” when Joe Biden served as vice president, Special Counsel David Weiss said in a court filing.

Police arrested a 32-year-old woman after six people were hurt in a knife attack on a bus headed to a festival in western Germany. Authorities said Saturday that there was no evidence of a political or religious motive.
Three of those attacked are in life-threatening condition, police said on Friday evening.
The knife attack took place in Siegen, east of Cologne. The bus was on its way to a local festival in the town and at least another 40 people were on board when the attack took place at about 7:40 p.m.
Police and prosecutors said the six people wounded were aged between 16 and 30 and all were from the region.

The radical left is coming out in support of the radical leftist running for office.
As seen on X, the organization Socialist International has officially endorsed Kamala Harris for president, because of course they did.
"From the Socialist International, we proudly support [Kamala Harris] in her candidacy for the upcoming November 5th elections. We are confident she will make history as the first woman President of the United States," they posted.
If anyone on Harris's campaign team has a lick of sense, they won't say a word in response to this endorsement... so whether or not they will is up in the air.
Ultimately, this won't do anything to help Harris's case.

A frightening scenario has taken place not once but twice in East County near San Diego, California, where, on August 27, 2024, and again the following day, numerous illegal immigrants attempted to force their way onto school buses packed with children.
The first incident occurred Tuesday (August 27) afternoon. According to (Jamul-Dulzura Union School District Superintendent) Liz Bystedt, three men were walking in the middle of a highway. They attempted to stop a bus at a stop on the highway. In response, the bus went around the men.
The following morning, another school bus encountered a group of about 20 people as it was picking students up from the same stop

An Oklahoma community expressed outrage after a high school student was banned from flying the American flag on his truck.
The decision sparked a patriotic protest from students and parents outside Edmond North High School who responded by flying a number of American flags on campus in support of the student.
Caleb Horst, a senior at the school, said he was left confused by the school telling him to stop flying the stars and stripes on his pickup, particularly as he had already been 'flying it for quite a while.'

Just when you thought California under the impeccably coiffed Gavin Newsom and the lunatic asylum that is the Democrats in the California state legislature couldn't get any more ridiculous, someone sets the bar even lower. Now we see that the legislature's Democratic supermajority is likely to pass a bill providing a home-buying subsidy for first-time real estate buyers of up to $150,000.
That sounds like a stupid enough idea all on its own, doesn't it? Not only is this wildly inflationary, not only will it make homes even less affordable for your average Californian,
