Cole Hocker put together a surging final kick to come from the middle of the pack and win gold for Team USA in the men’s 1,500-meter race at the Paris Olympics in a stunning upset. See all US medalists at 2024 Paris Olympic Games as Team USA goes for the top spot this summer Norway’s Jakob Ingebrigtsen, the Tokyo gold medalist in 2021, led for much of the race but Hocker and Britain’s Josh Kerr moved to the front during a dramatic final lap around the Stade de France. Kerr led as the group entered the final stretch, but was overtaken by Hocker just before the line

Comments:

If this were a horse racing chart - - the comments line would read - - "Came again along the rail." And if Hocker were a horse - - he would have been a 50-1 shot. A thrilling and dramatic win!

The two "champions" were shooting off their mouths in a glory piece that NBC (nothing but commercials) played before the race. It was "put up or shut up" time and Cole Hocker shut them up but good!!

Fellow Hoosier looking good at the Olympics. Obviously he was a total after thought. He just kept sneaking up and up and then let it rip at the end. Those running in front of him had no idea he was even there until it was too late. Good for him.

While the attention was focused in Josh Kerr and Jakob Ingebrigtsen, Americans Jared Nuguse and Cole Hocker were right there at the finish line. Hocker, who ran down the other three, set an Olympic record and brought home another gold medal to America. BTW, anyone who doesn't care about this story should stay off the thread.

PARIS — Alain Delon, the internationally acclaimed French actor who embodied both the bad guy and the policeman and made hearts throb around the world, died at age 88, French media reported. With his handsome looks and tender manner, the prolific actor was able to combine toughness with an appealing, vulnerable quality that made him one of France’s memorable leading men. Delon was also a producer, appeared in plays and, in later years, in television movies.

Bangladesh soldiers patrolled the deserted streets of the capital, Dhaka, on Saturday during a curfew meant to quell deadly student-led protests against government job quotas that have killed at least 105 people this week. A suspension on internet and text message services has remained in place since Thursday, cutting off Bangladesh from the world as police cracked down on protests that have continued despite a ban on public gatherings. Overseas telephone calls mostly failed to connect, while the websites of Bangladesh-based media organizations did not update, and their social media handles remained inactive.

Even President Biden’s late night firewall could be breaking. “Tonight Show” host Jimmy Fallon, a normally pro-Biden comedian, came out swinging in a monologue earlier this week to jeer at the Commander in Chief’s coronavirus diagnosis; visibly diminished mental state and sagging support from fellow Democrats. “On the bright side… it’s the first positive news he’s had in months,” Fallon quipped of the medical developments. “Biden has COVID. Luckily he can’t spread it because Democrats have been distancing themselves from him since the debate.”

Monday’s Lester Holt interview with President Biden shows that Joe’s damage-control press tour just keeps on doing more damage — it went far worse than his heart-to-heart with George Stephanopoulos. For starters, Biden couldn’t even bring himself to fully apologize for saying Dems should put Donald Trump in a “bull’s-eye,” instead lamely insisting, “I didn’t say crosshairs.” Cold comfort (and bad taste) indeed, after Trump was nearly felled by an assassin’s bullet.

And so, you know, there’s a safety factor that would be considered there that we wouldn’t want to put somebody up on a sloped roof,” she told ABC News in a startling admission.“And so, you know, the decision was made to secure the building, from inside,” she told the outlet.

Biden defended his age, saying he "spent half my career being criticized about being the youngest person in politics. I was the second youngest person ever elected to the United States Senate, and now I’m the oldest. This guy is three years younger and a lot less competent."

Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton made her entrance on the stage of the Democrat National Convention in Chicago to Sara Bareilles' song, "Brave," followed by a standing ovation and a ton of applause. Next to AOC's speech, this was the most energy exhibited at what has been a fairly lackluster Night 1 of the DNC. Clinton noted the rise in energy. Wow. There's a lot of energy in this room, just like there is across the country! Something, something is happening in America! You can feel it. Something we've worked for and dreamed of for a long time. First, though, let's salute President Biden.

Some tell me they are Republican and miss Ronald Reagan but also admit they “couldn’t” vote for Donald Trump in either 2016 or 2020. Nothing says one is Republican like voting for a liberal Democrat. This is the NeverTrump wing of the Republican Party, emerging shortly after Trump secured the GOP nomination in 2016. Reasons for NeverTrump-ism are myriad. Some were offended by his mean tweets, name-calling, and brash Queens personality.
