Conservatives Worried Justice Gorsuch

Conservatives do not move in mindless lockstep the way woke liberals do. We can have our disagreements, even on important points of principle and policy. Nonetheless, we should assume good faith debate and try not to talk past one another. This holds true especially in what we might call the “creed” vs. “culture” debate. In a recent interview with the libertarian-minded Reason Magazine, conservative Supreme Court Justice Neil Gorsuch characterized the United States as a “creedal nation,” rooted in the principles of the Declaration of Independence, thereby prompting outrage from some conservatives on social media, who worried about Gorsuch potentially “‘prepping’ us for an absurd Birthright Citizenship ruling.”

More of those "Emanations of a Penumbra" that 'Justices' use to excuse making a bad decision??? And calling Gorsuch a conservative is foolishness: He is, at best, a moderate who occasionally rules correctly.

It seems there is very probably a simple way to resolve this problem... Children of Ambassadors and other reps of foreign countries born here are not citizens! Expand that concept to anyone here on a temporary visa; Problem solved! Is there any reason to NOT do this? Methinks not!

After the redistricting ruling, a favorable ruling here would likely be the start of the end of the Dem party. Throw in the SAVE act and the Dems would simply become a footnote of political history.

Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall is demanding the Southern Poverty Law Center hand over donor information, fundraising solicitations, and other internal documents after a federal grand jury indicted the SPLC for allegedly funding members of the very hate groups the SPLC claims it exists to “dismantle.” Marshall’s office issued a formal subpoena to the Montgomery-based nonprofit on Monday, launching an investigation under Alabama’s law against deceptive trade practices. “We have always suspected that they were monetizing hate and trading on race-baiting, it was just a matter of proving it,” Marshall said in a statement on the subpoena. Federal prosecutors say a former NFL player orchestrated a sprawling healthcare fraud operation that targeted elderly Americans and the families of disabled veterans, generating nearly $200 million in false Medicare and CHAMPVA claims through sham telemarketing campaigns, fake doctors’ orders, and hidden medical supply companies. A former NFL player who owned a marketing company and was the beneficial owner of eight durable medical equipment (DME) companies has been sentenced to 196 months in federal prison for his role in a yearslong healthcare fraud scheme that defrauded Medicare and the Civilian Health and Medical Program of the Department of Veterans Affairs (CHAMPVA) out of nearly $200 million.

In a firm display of military resolve, U.S. forces disabled an Iranian-flagged oil tanker on Wednesday morning after it ignored multiple warnings and attempted to breach the American naval blockade in the Gulf of Oman. The U.S. Central Command reported that the tanker, M/T Hasna, was sailing in international waters toward an Iranian port when its crew failed to comply with repeated orders to turn back. A U.S. Navy F/A-18 Super Hornet, launched from the USS Abraham Lincoln, fired several rounds from its 20mm cannon, disabling the vessel’s rudder and bringing it to a halt. CENTCOM stated. “CENTCOM forces continue to act deliberately and professionally to ensure compliance.”

Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. announced a new campaign to reduce the use of antidepressants, including encouraging clinicians to “de-prescribe” Medicare patients from the drugs by instead prescribing “non-pharmacological” services such as therapy. The initiative will also include training for clinicians on the risks of psychiatric medications and how to “taper” patients off the drugs slowly to avoid severe withdrawal symptoms, though the incidence rate of those symptoms is unclear. “We’re not telling you to stop” any medications, Kennedy said at a Monday event. Instead, the initiative aims to make sure patients and clinicians “have the information and support to make the right decisions for you,” he said.

Blow the whistle, get paid. A Justice Department bounty program that incentivizes employees to blow the whistle on their employers could lead to more whistleblowing as the Trump administration intensifies its crackdown on diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives. The Trump administration is investigating major companies under the False Claims Act — a federal law the Justice Department uses to take action against contractors alleged to have defrauded the government and recoup substantial damages. Last year, the Justice Department established a task force to investigate federal contractors for alleged violations of the False Claims Act. It said this week it has seen a "rapid increase" in whistleblower complaints filed in recent years.

The city of El Cajon has sued the state of California over its so-called sanctuary laws, arguing that offering undocumented immigrants drivers’ licenses and workplace protections, as well as prohibiting local police from working with immigration agents, amounts to illegal enticement under the federal statute that outlaws human smuggling. The City Council voted 3-2 on Tuesday to pursue the litigation, which alleges in part that the El Cajon Police Department and its officers risk being held civilly and criminally liable under federal law if they follow California’s SB 54 and other state laws that limit their ability to work with federal immigration authorities.

The Supreme Court appeared ready to give the Trump administration considerable deference in its decision to end Temporary Protected Status for people from various countries, likely spelling doom for lawsuits hoping to block the administration’s purge of TPS designations. The justices heard arguments in the consolidated cases Mullin v. Doe and Trump v. Moit, where they were asked to determine whether federal law bars review of Trump’s decision to rescind TPS for people from Haiti and Syria. While the case involves only President Donald Trump’s efforts to end TPS for two countries, the forthcoming ruling will have sweeping effects for other countries where Trump is attempting to end TPS.

The Supreme Court on Wednesday limited the scope of a key Voting Rights Act provision that restricts how states draw districts affecting minority voters, constraining states' use of race as a factor when drawing congressional maps ahead of the 2026 midterms. Justices for the 6-3 majority ruled that Louisiana's newly redrawn congressional map, which created a second majority-Black district, constituted an "illegal" racial gerrymander. Though the justices acknowledged that compliance with the Voting Rights Act can be a compelling interest for states, they ruled that it did not require Louisiana to create the new map with a second, majority Black district.

The Supreme Court will review on Wednesday the Trump administration’s bid to remove a criminal noncitizen who was paroled into the country, one of two immigration cases the justices will hear over the next week. The case, Blanche v. Lau, centers on a Chinese national, Muk Choi Lau, who became a legal permanent resident in 2005 but was eventually charged with trademark counterfeiting in 2012 and left the country. When Lau returned later in 2012, he was paroled into the country by immigration officers to face trial, then convicted. Immigration officials began removal proceedings against him in 2014, but a federal appeals court tossed out an immigration court’s removal order

Something big is on the horizon — and the people saying so aren't fringe voices on a podcast. They're senior Trump administration officials. Monica Crowley, the U.S. government's chief of protocol, dropped a significant claim on Wednesday: hard evidence that Donald Trump won the 2020 presidential election is coming, and it's coming soon. "He did win in a landslide, and we will soon be able to give evidence about that," Crowley said. Now, she didn't lay out a timeline or spell out exactly what the evidence would look like, but the message was clear.

The Telegraph reported the change comes amid heightened global tensions following the killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and other officials during a recent conflict. Khamenei was killed in an Israeli strike in Tehran as part of a coordinated U.S.-Israeli military operation earlier this year, Fox News Digital previously reported. The constitutional revision was approved during a session of North Korea’s Supreme People’s Assembly, which opened March 22 in Pyongyang, the outlet said. Virginia Attorney General Jay Jones filed a long-shot emergency petition to the Supreme Court on Monday, urging it to reinstate the voter-approved Democratic gerrymander of the state’s congressional map, which the Virginia Supreme Court struck down last week. The petition, filed on behalf of Jones and other Democratic leaders in Virginia, argued that the Virginia Supreme Court erred in ruling that an “election” in the Virginia constitution includes the early voting period, instead arguing that under federal law, an “election” refers to a singular day.

The Democrat party is facing such a host of seemingly intractable problems -- structural, financial, legal, and ideological -- that it will be close to a miracle if it survives after this year’s midterms. The below deck shuffles -- encouraging illegal alien votes, manipulating the census, making crooked voting almost impossible to check, and stuffing their pockets with illegal contributions through ACT Blue and pay-to-play schemes of USAID and NGOs -- are all suddenly being exposed and blocked. Empty Pockets Jeff Childers has done a thorough job explaining the party’s terminal crisis. Being short of funds is a good start.

The president also warned the country against “playing games” after Tehran refused to discuss its nuclear program in its latest response to America’s peace proposal through Pakistani mediators. Trump slammed the rogue Mideast country for delaying negotiations historically, ranting on the social platform.

Four others were shot and hospitalized, according to police. It’s not clear how many of those wounded were students. The prom was cut short and the school was closed Monday to give Hayes’ classmates time to grieve, Action News 5 reported.

To lefties driving today’s Democratic Party, it’s not “democracy” unless it’s hard-wired to let them run roughshod — and when their power-grab schemes run afoul of the rule of law, their only answer is a fresh scheme. Specifically, progs want to ram through a law instantly dropping the retirement age for the Virginia court to 54, which would allow the legislature to replace enough justices to restore the gerrymander.
