Virginia Attorney General Jay Jones filed a long-shot emergency petition to the Supreme Court on Monday, urging it to reinstate the voter-approved Democratic gerrymander of the state’s congressional map, which the Virginia Supreme Court struck down last week. The petition, filed on behalf of Jones and other Democratic leaders in Virginia, argued that the Virginia Supreme Court erred in ruling that an “election” in the Virginia constitution includes the early voting period, instead arguing that under federal law, an “election” refers to a singular day.

AUSTIN — Former President Barack Obama met with U.S. Senate candidate James Talarico Tuesday in Texas, putting his support behind a campaign that Democrats see as a shot, if a long one, for the party to win statewide in the reliably conservative state.
Obama lunched with Talarico and Democratic state Rep. Gina Hinojosa, the nominee running to unseat Texas’ Republican Gov. Greg Abbott, at a taco shop in Austin. The visit was meant to give the candidates a boost from one of the more liked figures in the Democratic Party.

Yesterday, the New York Times reported that Democrats in Virginia would amend the state constitution to force all sitting judges on its state supreme court to retire, after losing a 4-3 decision on another botched attempt to amend the state constitution. Well, isn't this interesting? There are reports that the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has been conducting military strikes against an Iranian oil facility. If this can be confirmed, this could represent quite a shake-up in the Middle East. That post reads:

LOS ANGELES - Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass has withdrawn from participating in a candidate forum scheduled for Wednesday, the co-sponsors announced Saturday.

The forum, co-sponsored by the League of Women Voters and the Pat Brown Institute for Public Affairs, was scheduled to air on May 13.

A gun-wielding career criminal opened fire at random cars driving down a Massachusetts roadway on Monday, leaving two men with life-threatening injuries before the maniac was shot by responding officers.
Gunman Tyler Brown allegedly fired 50 to 60 rounds indiscriminately from an assault-style rifle as he erratically walked down Memorial Drive in Cambridge around 1:20 p.m., Middlesex County District Attorney Marian Ryan said during a press conference.
At 1:06 p.m., Cambridge police received a 911 call from Boston police, who said an individual acting erratically and in possession of a rifle was in Cambridge, Ryan said.
