The Spectator, whose headlines are lazy and terrible and an embarrassment to a once great publication, had a particularly bad example the other day:
How many more knife attacks can France take?
Well, as noted in the very first sentence of the article, there are currently 120 "knife attacks" every day in France. A generation ago it would have been inconceivable that the French would accept with a collective Gallic shrug 850 "knife attacks" per week.
Yet they do. So would they be able to "take" a thousand per week? Check back with me later this year. Fifteen hundred? Two thousand? That's the way to bet.

The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) canceled more than $180 million in contracts over 48 hours, including a nearly $170,000 contract for an Anthony Fauci museum exhibit.
"In the past 48 hours, HHS canceled 62 contract [sic] worth $182 million," The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) announced in a Friday social media post. "These contracts were entirely for administrative expenses – none touched any healthcare programs. This included terminating a $168,000 contract for an Anthony Fauci exhibit at the NIH Museum."
The news comes as DOGE, led by billionaire Elon Musk, has

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), who should probably ask for a refund from Boston University for leading her astray on an education, slammed Elon Musk as "one of the most unintelligent billionaires" she has ever met.
AOC's comments were part of a 90-minute-long conversation with fans on Instagram.
What really launched New York's most prominent socialist into a flurry of dizzying projection are Musk's ongoing efforts to clean up an out-of-control bureaucracy through the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) team.
"This dude is probably one of the most unintelligent billionaires I have ever met, or seen, or witnessed," she whinnied.

Two employees of the authority that manages Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport were arrested over their alleged involvement in leaking surveillance footage of last week’s deadly midair aircraft collision to CNN.
The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority (MWAA) staffers are accused of making an unauthorized copy of records and are facing charges of computer trespass, the agency said Monday.
The legal trouble is tied to the chilling video obtained by CNN last week that offered a horrifying new vantage point in the crash over the Potomac River, ABC News reported.
The Wednesday night collision between a Black Hawk helicopter and an American Airlines passenger jet killed all 67 people on both aircraft.

Interim D.C. U.S. Attorney Edward R. Martin, Jr. has made a bold move, dismissing about 30 federal prosecutors involved in the Capitol riot cases. This decision, announced on Friday, signals a significant housecleaning of the top prosecutor's office in Washington, D.C., as Martin gears up to purge partisans who weaponized the Justice Department against Joe Biden’s political enemies, including Trump, pro-life activists, and others.
But he’s also taken another bold step, effectively launching an investigation into Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer over comments he made back in March 2020 during a #MyRightMyDecision rally outside the Supreme Court. During the rally, Schumer blatantly threatened Trump-appointed Supreme Court Justices

The Democratic National Committee is getting ready to hold elections on Saturday, and a laundry list of opportunists are lining up to snag roles. One of those is David Hogg, who is running for vice chair. Ken Martin, who currently runs the Minnesota DFL, and Ben Wikler, who is chairman of the Wisconsin Democratic Party, are the frontrunners to take the top spot of chairman.
So how are things going over at the DNC? Did they learn any lessons from their embarrassing defeats in 2024? Of course, they didn't. Instead, they are doubling down on all the intersectional, woke insanity

The Federal Aviation Administration was hit with a class action lawsuit last year alleging it had denied 1,000 would-be air traffic controllers jobs because of diversity hiring targets — as it was revealed staffing levels were “not normal” at the time of this week’s deadly midair collision.
Complaints about the FAA’s hiring policies resurfaced after the American Airlines passenger plane and a Black Hawk helicopter crashed in Washington, DC, on Wednesday, killing 67 people in the country’s deadliest aviation disaster in almost a quarter century.
Details of the litigation reemerged, too, as Andrew Brigida — the lead plaintiff in the suit — suggested the federal aviation agency’s obsession with diversity hiring

Chicago mayors Brandon Johnson and Lori Lightfoot allegedly did not properly report hundreds of gifts and the inspector general’s office is recommending an overhaul to an unwritten agreement dating back to the late 80s.
The IG report, released Wednesday, has to do with city employees being tasked with reporting gifts to the Board of Ethics and the city’s comptroller.
The inspector general’s office claims hundreds of valuable gifts, dating from Feb. 1, 2022 through March 31, 2024, were accepted by Lori Lightfoot and Brandon Johnson without properly reporting them.
WGN News spoke with Inspector General Debra Witzburg and she believes the practice of not reporting gifts by the mayor’s office,

Phyllis Fong, who served as Inspector General of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) since 2002, told colleagues last week she planned to resist President Trump's order firing multiple IGs across different federal agencies.
The act of defiance did not end well. Security greeted her when she showed up to work on Monday and promptly removed her from her office.
On Wednesday, Reuters reported exclusively on the situation.
"Security agents escorted the inspector general of the U.S. Department of Agriculture out of her office on Monday after she refused to comply with her firing by the Trump administration," they relayed, citing multiple sources familiar with the matter.

A ban on numerous semiautomatic firearms — rifles and shotguns — passed the Colorado Senate Affairs Committee on Tuesday and is now headed to the Senate Floor.
The legislation is SB25-003, which targets firearms state Democrats define as a “specified semiautomatic firearm.”
SB25-003 says, in part:
The bill defines a “specified semiautomatic firearm” as a semiautomatic rifle or semiautomatic shotgun with a detachable magazine or a gas-operated semiautomatic handgun with a detachable magazine. The bill prohibits knowingly manufacturing, distributing, transferring, selling, or purchasing a specified semiautomatic firearm; except that a person may transfer a specified semiautomatic firearm to an heir,

Sen. Lindsey Graham said he doesn’t approve of President Trump’s pardoning of the Jan. 6 rioters, especially those who “beat up cops” who were defending the Capitol.
“No,” Graham said, when asked whether he’s okay with the most violent offenders on Jan. 6 getting pardoned, in an interview on CNN’s “State of the Union.”
“I’ve always said that I think when you pardon people who attack police officers, you’re sending the wrong signal to the public at large, and that’s not what you want to do to protect cops,” Graham continued. “But he has that power.”

Are the L.A. wildfires — which have razed more than 38,000 acres (57 sq. miles), the equivalent of a midsize city like Minneapolis — a chance outbreak? Or is there a design behind this Firepocalypse? More specifically, is it part of a concerted attempt by the global elite to use fire, floods, and fear to push so-called “sustainable” goals for the Great Reset? [snip] Governor Gavin Newsom’s offer to waive building and environmental regulations to help rebuild after the wildfires, and L.A.’s dalliance with programs such as C40, the Livable Communities Initiative (LCI), and SmartLA2028, cast suspicion of a link to the policies of the elitist
