Israel is suspected of remotely detonating thousands of walkie-talkie radios and other devices in a second wave of attacks targeting Hezbollah. At least three people were killed in the east of Lebanon and more than 100 were wounded in the new explosions in southern Beirut, a Hezbollah stronghold, on Wednesday, Lebanon’s health ministry said. Witnesses and Hezbollah officials said the explosions were as a result of the group’s walkie-talkies as well as motorbike radios and security locks blowing up across Lebanon. Sources told Lebanese news outlet L’Orient Today that devices were detonated inside cars, residential apartments and shops.

Ah, brisance, the difference between exploding and detonating. The shattering force of a high explosive. The difference between cracking a concrete wall and pulverizing it instantly into dust. Sometimes you want to push something, sometimes you want to break it. This is what led me to believe that there was no mere hack to make batteries burst. The videos I have seen show a high pressure blast going off. Too much force for it's size.

Gas powered stoves in California could now come with a health warning label similar to what you'd find on a pack of cigarettes or other tobacco products, according to a new proposed law in the state. California lawmakers passed a bill at the end of August that would make it illegal to sell a gas stove that is manufactured or sold online on or after Jan. 1, 2025, or sold in a store, "unless the gas stove bears an adhesive label attached in a conspicuous location," according to the text of the bill. A top election official in Arizona said he would file a suit Tuesday that could bar almost 100,000 residents from voting in state and local races this fall, claiming they have not provided citizenship documents required under state law. Such documents are not required for Arizona residents to register to vote or cast a ballot in federal elections. The IDF eliminated several Hamas commanders of the Tel Al-Sultan Battalion during joint operations between the IDF and the Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency), the military said on Tuesday. The commander of Hamas’s Tel Al-Sultan Battalion, Mahmoud Hamdan, and three additional company commanders from the battalion were reportedly killed. Hamadan played a significant role in the October 7 massacre, according to the IDF. Soldiers from 401st Brigade identified terrorist squads using drones and directed air force aircraft towards them. This attack, along with additional strikes, effectively dismantled the command chain of the Tel Al Sultan Battalion and killed dozens of other terrorists from the battalion.

Back in the late 1980s to early 1990s, the only people with pagers were doctors and drug dealers. And if you happened to be friends with a doctor or drug dealer, you learned to call the pager and leave a numeric code. (We even figured out a way to pass along football scores.) This communication process wasn’t turnkey, but where there’s a will, there’s a way. But pagers, of course, went the way of the typewriter and telegraph machine. Nowadays, the only people who still use pagers are, well, doctors and drug dealers. (Lots of hospitals have lousy cell reception, so the medical staff is armed with pagers.)
