It's been a while since Special Counsel Jack Smith's legal team and that of former President Donald Trump faced off in the U.S. District Court in Washington, D.C. The 2020 Election case brought by Smith against Trump has been in limbo since it went up on appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court on the presidential immunity issue. Since the SCOTUS July 1 ruling on the scope of immunity, the parties have made various filings, and Smith has filed a superseding indictment, but Thursday marked the first day the parties were actually back before Judge Tanya Chutkan in person, a fact which Chutkan acknowledged as she greeted Trump attorney John Lauro.

Mason Schermerhorn last texted his mom from the restroom before he was discovered as one of the four killed in a mass shooting at Apalachee High School in Winder, Georgia, a chaplain and youth minister who tried to help find the teen said. Ronald Clark had stopped at a store on his way home Wednesday morning, when he learned of the shooting from his wife via phone call. He rushed to the scene, and quickly offered his services to law enforcement at the command post. He was instructed to assist crews on the investigative side. About an hour later, he said he started seeing the students, who were "hurt."

Vice President Kamala Harris’s presidential campaign hired a marketing firm run by Judge Juan Merchan’s adult daughter, according to an ethics complaint that accuses the New York state supreme court justice of having a conflict of interest that should disqualify him from presiding over the hush-money case against former president Donald Trump. The complaint, filed on Friday by Representative Elise Stefanik (R., N.Y.), reveals that the Harris campaign paid $468 to Loren Merchan’s political consulting firm Authentic Campaigns on July 30, nine days after Harris replaced President Joe Biden atop the Democratic ticket. “This indicates that one of the very first things that Harris did upon taking over

BALTIMORE -- One student is hospitalized and another is in police custody after a shooting Friday inside Joppatowne High School. According to Harford County Sheriff Jeffrey Gahler, a 16-year-old student allegedly shot a 15-year-old during a fight inside a men's bathroom just after 12:30 p.m. That victim was flown by medical helicopter to the hospital, where he is in serious condition. The alleged teenage gunman ran from the school, but was captured a short time later. "Our hearts are breaking for the victim and the victim's family," said Harford County Schools Superintendent Dr. Sean Bulson. "This should not be happening in schools." "Sadly we stand here today to discuss another school shooting,

WINDER, Ga. (AP) — The 14-year-old suspect in a shooting at a Georgia high school that killed four people and his father will both stay in custody following back-to-back court hearings Friday morning where their lawyers declined to seek bail. At 14-year-old Colt Gray’s hearing, the teen was advised of his rights along with the charges and penalties he faced. After the hearing, the teen was escorted out in shackles at the wrists and ankles in khaki pants and a green shirt. The judge then called Colt Gray back to the courtroom to correct an earlier misstatement

Thursday has become one of the worst days in Vice President Kamala Harris' mismanaged and flailing presidential run. Let's take a stroll through a few of the previous troubling incidents and statements so far, and see where it leads. Team Harris began the day with catastrophic tidings via the poll analysis of Nate Silver...and whispers continuing to swirl like the Sonoran Desert's monsoon winds that the campaign is having regrets about who Kamala picked as her running mate. Democrat veep nominee and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz didn't have things any better, with the revelation of his comments of effusive support for pro-Hamas protesters

In 2019, Vice President Kamala Harris told CNN's Jake Tapper that social media companies "are directly speaking to millions and millions of people without any level of oversight or regulation and it has to stop." Does it? Every two-bit authoritarian in history has justified censoring its citizens as a way of protecting them from the menace of disinformation. But social media sites, contra the reliably illiberal Harris, aren't "directly speaking" to anyone. Millions of individuals are interacting and speaking to millions of other individuals. Really, that's what grinds the modern left's gears: unsupervised conversations. Take the Brazilian Supreme Court panel that unanimously upheld the decision by one of its justices

On Thursday’s broadcast of “CNN This Morning,” Harris-Walz Campaign Senior National Spokesman Ian Sams stated that 2024 Democratic presidential candidate Vice President Kamala Harris supports a smaller increase in the capital gains tax rate than President Joe Biden “to better incentivize the kind of investment in entrepreneurs that we want to see in this country to help achieve some of the broader economic goals.” Sams said, “[Y]ou have to help people afford to start a business. It costs, on average, 40,000 bucks for someone to start a small business. But the tax deduction is only 5,000 bucks. She wants to tenfold expand that to $50,000

Vice President Kamala Harris’s presidential campaign raised more than $300 million in August, more than twice that raised by former President Donald Trump’s campaign. Harris has been raising significant funds since President Joe Biden announced on July 21 that he would not seek the Democrat nomination. Two sources familiar with the Harris fundraising totals said that there are plans to hold several fundraisers for Harris’s campaign in September, including possible events in major hubs such as New York, Atlanta, Los Angeles, and San Franscisco. NBC News reported: After the convention, Harris campaign officials said they had raised more than $540 million since Harris took the reins of the campaign.

The 14-year-old shooting suspect has been charged with four counts of felony murder. Remember Joe Biden? It's hard to believe, but despite his escalating dementia, he's still the President of the United States because nothing matters anymore. He's also still speaking publicly on occasion, and on Thursday, he managed to admit the Inflation Reduction Act was a scam. Why did he do that? The simple answer is that he's senile and doesn't even realize what he's saying half the time at this point. BIDEN: My investments, through my investments, the most significant climate change law ever, and by the way, it is a $369 billion bill, it's called the, we should have named it what it was, at any rate.

Former Vice President Dick Cheney, a lifelong Republican, will vote for Kamala Harris for president, his daughter Liz Cheney said Friday. (snip) In a campaign ad for Liz Cheney as she sought a fourth term as Wyoming’s lone congressperson, Dick Cheney called Trump a “coward” for trying to “steal the last election using lies and violence to keep himself in power after the voters had rejected him.” The ad did little good for his daughter in a deep-red state that once held the Cheney family dear but is now thoroughly in Trump’s corner. By a 2-to-1 margin, Liz Cheney lost her Republican primary to Trump-endorsed attorney Harriet Hageman.

Yellen says that Republican-dominated states like North Carolina are greatly benefiting from tax incentives under the 2022 Inflation Reduction Act and that eliminating them would be a “historic mistake,” according to a draft of a speech she will give Thursday at a community college in Raleigh. In a recent and now widely seen Tucker Carlson interview, a guest historian named Darryl Cooper casually presented a surprising number of flawed theories about World War II. He focused his misstatements on the respective roles of Winston Churchill’s Britain and Adolf Hitler’s Germany—especially in matters of the treatment and fate of Russian prisoners, the Holocaust, the systematic slaughtering of Jews, strategic bombing, and the nature of Winston Churchill. Because of the size of the audience Carlson introduced him to, and because of the gravity of Cooper’s falsehoods, his assertions deserve a response.

An Alabama man entered a Florida hospital for a procedure to remove his spleen. On Aug. 21, medical records provided to USA Today by Zarzaur Law show that "Dr. Thomas Shaknovsky performed a hand-assisted laparoscopic splenectomy procedure on William “Bill” Bryan, 70, from Muscle Shoals, Alabama." Bryan's widow claims that Shaknovsky mistakenly removed his liver instead of his spleen. “Dr. Shaknovsky removed Mr. Bryan’s liver and, in so doing, transected the major vasculature supplying the liver, causing immediate and catastrophic blood loss resulting in death,” the statement from the law firm said. “The surgeon proceeded with labeling the removed liver specimen as a 'spleen,' and it wasn’t until following the death

Hunter Biden pleaded guilty Thursday to all nine federal tax charges he faced, staving off his second criminal trial this year just before it was set to begin, according to The Associated Press. In a stunning and last-minute twist, U.S. District Judge Mark Scarsi accepted the plea change on the same day jury selection was scheduled to get underway in Los Angeles federal court. Biden admitted to withholding at least $1.4 million in taxes over four years in the throes of his addiction to cocaine, spending it instead on a lavish lifestyle.

I wrote earlier about Joe Biden's cluelessness when it comes to what's going on with Gaza, Hamas, and making deals with terrorists. Biden keeps leaning on Israel, and that keeps emboldening Hamas. Hamas is now demanding even more to make a deal and even threatening the hostages. That's what bending over and being weak like Biden gets you. But I guess the Harris-Walz team didn't want Biden to have a corner on stupid. They doubled down on the bad takes with what Tim Walz said to WCMU on Thursday. WCMU Public Radio covers Central and Northern Michigan. No wonder there's a reluctance to let him talk. It was awful.
