Two Democratic senators are asking Attorney General Merrick Garland to appoint a special counsel to investigate Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas for possible tax law violations.
Sens. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.) and Ron Wyden (D-Ore.) sent the letter to Garland last week asking him to appoint a special counsel “to investigate possible violations of federal ethics and tax laws.” The two lawmakers pointed to public reporting over the last year which found Thomas failed to disclose multiple luxury trips and gifts from billionaire friends.

On Tuesday, ABC Good Morning America co-anchor George Stephanopoulos interviewed Democratic Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer about her recently released book, True Gretch. George Stephanopoulos backed away Tuesday evening from an errant quip he made to a passerby in New York City in which he said that he didn’t think President Joe Biden would be able to serve another term in office.
“I don’t think he can serve four more years,” Stephanopoulos said in the leaked video.
The exchange was captured by TMZ, and the person lobbing a query about Biden’s fortitude appeared to be working for the outlet. The person approached Stephanopoulos as he was walking, in workout clothes, on the streets of New York City.
