The chirp of cicadas in the tree-lined streets of Evanston is almost deafening. Billions of the insects have been making their periodic emergence from underground dormancy, on a scale not seen for centuries. With the ground strewn with dead bugs, and gardeners rushing to put protective netting around their plants and trees, locals have dubbed it ‘The Cicada-geddon’. And yet this quiet university town – an affluent suburb of Chicago on the shores of Lake Michigan – now has another interloper that its ultra-liberal citizens deeply resent. Three years after Evanston proudly became the first local government in the US to start paying reparations to its black citizens – in this case

Everyone applying for reparations should be forced to take a mandatory DNA test. The amount of the $25,000 check would be the percentage that could be proven to be African decent from the nations that slaves were imported from. Almost no people claiming to be black are 100% of African descent in the US.

The writer implies that Michiganders are on the hook for paying these hustlers. Evanston is in Illinois. And Gen. Sherman’s 40 acres and a mule referred to ex-slaves living in the ex-Confederacy. Those ex-slaves are long dead and The Land of Lincoln fought for the Union. 35,000 Illinoisan soldiers died for it. Evanston is in the extreme northern part of a northern state. If my great great grandfather promised to buy a friend a meal and failed to keep his promise do I now owe the descendants of his friend a lobster dinner?

Perhaps hordes of blacks will move there and demand their money. Bankrupt the town. All the other races should leave and let whoever did this deal with it. When the blacks don’t get their money, they will riot, steal, and do their normal activities.

Haven't we already been paying reparations for at least the last 60 years? Welfare, Affirmative Action, preferential business practices, etc., etc. Long past time to end it all, rather than to double down.

General Sherman was not talking for the US Government. He had no authority to make that "promise". A problem with reparations city by city, state by state is that the windfall payout varies by location, or not at all, thus, isn't that in an of itself "unfair"? Another problem is that once cash starts getting dispursed, the amount will never be enough, especially for grifters who never experienced real racism. And yet another problem is that no amount will ever wash away the stain of slavery and real racism. Especially when there is money to be made and power to be had by constantly bringing it up.

The people should refuse to pay taxes. Slavery was something that happened in the past. I see no reason why the tax payers should have to pay for it now. The people need to get rid of their government because of this crap. In my book, if anyone should get any reparations, it should be the Indians.

Why don't the slave sellers from Africa pay these bills? They imprisoned their own and rushed them down to the ocean to get some trinkets from the Portuguese. All of Europe had slaves, none of them were ever given a penny. Why is this always different? Because they are black? Or they should have been entitled to have top positions when they arrived in this country? Blacks were stone age people who could not do much else but work with their hands. Just look at many black women who were given positions these days just because they were black. They plagiarized their way through school to top positions until they were found out. Thousands of blacks who live in the US have never been slaves and new ones arrive daily across the open border. I guess they are included as well.

Looking purely at the recent polling, Donald Trump must be considered current favorite to win November's national election. We've explored how his felony convictions in New York City have not altered this overall trajectory, which has appeared to favor the challenger for months now. The oddsmakers and political forecasters seem to agree with this assessment, pegging the 45th president as likelier than not to become the 47th president in various published models. For what it's worth, I don't put a ton of stock into these models, especially with four-plus months left to go, but they're still worth mentioning. As of this writing, Trump leads Biden

However, the problem arises once those women who are not qualified are placed in positions of power and leadership, where they often quickly crash and burn. From embezzling $15 million in COVID funds to engaging in shameless plagiarism, these meritless women have demonstrated that they are not up to the task and struggle with the responsibilities they’ve been given. Naturally, they revert to what they know best: lying, cheating, and stealing.
