Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer on Tuesday lashed out at Speaker McCarthy and accused him of spearheading a “witch hunt” for announcing an impeachment inquiry against Joe Biden.
Speaker McCarthy on Tuesday announced he is directing House committees to open an impeachment inquiry against Joe Biden.
McCarthy scrambled to make a bold move as Congressman Matt Gaetz threatened to remove him as House Speaker.
“I am directing our House committees to open a formal impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden. Over the past several months, House Republicans have uncovered serious and credible allegations into President Biden’s conduct—a culture of corruption,” McCarthy said.

Speaker Kevin McCarthy announced Monday that House Republicans should launch an impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden as the next logical step based on the House Committee investigations. House Republicans certainly have uncovered enough evidence of wrongdoing through their subpoenaing of bank records, information from whistleblowers, allegations from credible sources, and testimony from first-hand witnesses.
Simply put, Republicans have more evidence for an impeachment probe than House Democrats did when they launched their impeachment inquiry in September 2019.

A new biography of Elon Musk released on Tuesday revealed that investigative journalist Bari Weiss was the first to alert the new owner of X, the social-media platform previously known as Twitter, that Jim Baker was overseeing the company’s legal department.
Baker, the former FBI general counsel under Director James Comey, played a pivotal role in Twitter’s decision in October 2020 to suppress the distribution of the Hunter Biden laptop story written by the New York Post.
After purchasing Twitter in October 2022, Musk made good on a promise to open the company’s books to select journalists, providing damning internal communications and files to Weiss and former Rolling Stone journalist Matt Taibbi.

There’s more potentially exciting news for all of you science geeks out there this week, coming to us from NASA. This time they have locked in on a cool dwarf star (that’s “cool” as in lower temperature than our sun, though it’s the other kind of “cool” also) in the constellation Leo roughly 120 light years from Earth with the unsexy name K2-18. Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Tuesday that the Soviet Union's decision to send tanks into Hungary and Czechoslovakia to crush mass protests during the Cold War was a mistake.
"It was a mistake," Putin said when asked about perceptions of Russia as a colonial power due to Moscow's decision to send tanks into Budapest in 1956 and into Prague in 1968.
"It is not right to do anything in foreign policy that harms the interests of other peoples," said Putin, who in 2022 sent tens of thousands of troops into Ukraine, triggering the biggest land war in Europe since World War Two.

Speaking at the Eastern Economic Forum hosted in Vladivostok, Russia, Putin said the indictment charges Trump faces are a form of political revenge. The prior eyewitness testimony of a nurse present in the emergency room after President John F. Kennedy was fatally shot in 1963 seems to corroborate a former Secret Service agent's bombshell new claim.
Multiple interviews given by nurse Phyllis J. Hall a decade ago appear to back up former Secret Service agent Paul Landis' claim, after she described seeing a bullet sitting on the mortally wounded president's stretcher next to his head.
Landis, 88, broke his silence in an interview on Saturday, nearly six decades after Kennedy's assassination in Dallas, to share a claim that upends the infamous 'magic bullet' theory and raises the possibility of multiple shooters.

The electric vehicle honeymoon is over. Don’t expect the marriage itself to last much longer either.
The mass conversion from internal combustion engine vehicles (ICEs) to electric vehicles was never more than a Democrat/environmentalist hallucination anyway. It was the most ill-conceived government policy objective in modern history.
The transition should have been a non-starter. It’s riddled with numerous deal killers. It’s like having a dozen fatal diseases all at the same time.
Any goal as massive as a total conversion from ICE vehicles to EVs requires careful planning and infrastructure preparation. It would necessitate a rapid doubling of electricity generation and grid expansion.

I'm reading Just Mercy: A Story of Justice and Redemption by Black attorney Bryan Stevenson. It was lent to us by a very liberal friend, and I can see why. The book tells us that the old South of racists and Confederates and a justice system that is flat-out unjust to Blacks is still alive and well here in post civil-rights America. Small towns in the South are still far too quick to frame up an innocent Black for the murder of a White girl. That's not all: teenaged kids get a gun handed to them by the local gang and end up on death row when someone gets killed.

On Saturday, the New York Times surprised many people, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. among them, with a lengthy article questioning the “single bullet theory” in the November 1963 assassination of President John F. Kennedy.
The man who got the Times’ attention is Paul Landis, a long-retired Secret Service agent who stood on the running board of Kennedy’s car that fateful day. What is odd about that attention is how little new information Landis adds to the conversation.
As Landis claims in the forthcoming book, The Final Witness, he originally misremembered where he first saw the pristine “magic bullet,”

With just three days until their current contract expires, nearly a hundred and fifty thousand members of the United Auto Workers (U.A.W.) union are preparing to walk out from their jobs at the Big Three automakers: Ford, General Motors, and Stellantis (the parent company of Chrysler). Negotiations are ongoing, but in recent days Shawn Fain, the U.A.W. president, dismissed the companies’ initial contract offers as grossly inadequate. “If we don’t get our justice, I can guarantee you one thing—come this Thursday at midnight, there will be action,” Fain said.

WASHINGTON (AP) — During her husband’s 1992 presidential campaign, Hillary Clinton observed that “our lives are a mixture of different roles” and said most people are trying to find the right balance.
“For me, that balance is family, work and service,” she said.
Clinton juggled those roles — and more — during eight years as first lady in the White House. She’s returning Tuesday for her first public appearance in the building since the Obama years to indulge her love for the arts.

WASHINGTON — Donald Trump is polling even with President Joe Biden in a likely 2024 rematch, sparking mixed feelings among Democrats 14 months from Election Day. Some are alarmed by the neck-and-neck race, while Biden campaign officials and other allies downplay the recent polls as meaningless this early in the cycle.
But there’s one thing Democratic strategists agree on: An insurrection scheme and a torrent of criminal charges won’t be enough to stop the former president and runaway Republican primary front-runner from returning to the White House.

Russian President Vladimir Putin asserted Tuesday that the criminal cases against former U.S. President Donald Trump are political revenge that show the fundamental corruption of the United States.
“As for the prosecution of Trump, for us what is happening in today’s conditions, in my opinion, is good because it shows the rottenness of the American political system, which cannot pretend to teach others democracy,” Putin said at an Eastern Economic Forum gathering in Russia’s Pacific Coast city of Vladivostok.
“Everything that is happening with Trump is the persecution of a political rival for political reasons.

The deeply corrupt, highly politicized United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) will vote later this week on declaring Jericho, an ancient Jewish city, a "World Heritage Site in Palestine."
The Palestinian Authority submitted a nomination of Jericho, which it wants to rename Tell es-Sultan.
UNESCO's purpose is to promote "international cooperation in education, sciences, culture, communication and information" which it is supposed to do through "knowledge sharing and the free flow of ideas." Nowhere does it say that UNESCO has the least right to meddle in ongoing conflicts and create make-believe "facts" on the ground.

In a tweet sent out over the weekend, Rob “Meathead” Reiner declared that “For our Democracy to survive, two things have to happen. Donald Trump needs to be Convicted for Jan. 6th and there can be no Third Party Candidate.”
Reiner’s comment was so blatantly anti-democratic that it elicited an avalanche of criticism, some of it from leftists who didn’t particularly like the idea of barring third-party candidates. As one person on X (formerly known as Twitter) responded: “Better make sure there’s no second party candidate either, just to be safe. For Democracy.”
Another way of putting what Reiner said: We need to kill democracy in order to save it.

Regardless of any delusions you, I, or anyone else may harbor on this issue, the odds that Donald Trump will be saddled with at least one FELONY conviction out of the dozens he is currently charged with are exceedingly high. It doesn’t even matter whether the charges are with or without merit. If a firing squad is pointing 91 rounds at someone, at least one of them is gonna hit the target. This means that this time next year, instead of campaigning or even accepting the GOP nomination in person, the former president could either be in prison or on house arrest, playing golf with an ankle bracelet.

Americans' cars now have the 'unmatched power to watch, listen and collect information about what you do and where you go,' according to a concerning new study.
According to the Mozilla Foundation, at least 84 percent of 25 car brands studied have the power to share or sell the personal data of drivers to to data brokers, law enforcement, and others.
'The gist is: they can collect super intimate information about you — from your medical information, your genetic information, to your ‘sex life’ (seriously), to how fast you drive, where you drive, and what songs you play in your car,' the study said.

On Monday’s broadcast of CNN’s “The Source,” Bernalillo County, New Mexico Sheriff John Allen (D) criticized New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham (D) for her declaration of a health emergency to ban carrying firearms in public and stated that New Mexico law doesn’t have “strict enough penalties for juveniles with firearms” even though juvenile gun crime is increasing.
Allen reiterated his vow not to enforce the order because it’s not constitutional and would tie up law enforcement in litigation at a time when they have violent crime issues to deal with. Allen specifically said that the rise of juvenile firearm crime is one issue he wants to focus on.
