In Germany, they are tearing down a wind farm to make room for the expansion of an open pit lignite coal mine. Dismantling of wind turbines has already begun. Lignite is brown coal. It has been mined at the mine in question for well over a hundred years.
RWE, the German company that owns the mine has also announced that it is returning lignite-fired coal units that were previously on standby to service. Those plants came back online this month. (Snip) The demand for coal will reach a record high in 2022. The International Energy Agency has reported that coal use in Europe is up by seven percent in 2022.

Thank god. For the last 10 years or so winters have been getting colder. Fire up the coal plants. Produce more greenhouse gas and warm things up!

Requiring a subscription is such a disappointment. Many readers are not going to subscribe in order to read an article.

There is not much political context in the article, more a practical declaration to burn coal or freeze this winter. Of course this is what rational people have been saying about efforts to "fix" the climate for a long time, we do NOT have the technology to dump fossil fuels. As the article mentions, we could have gone to nuclear but that can't be implemented overnight.
It also seems that "someone" might have mentioned that Russia's Putin was not a reliable person to be banking on for your energy future.
No matter what the this and that of the process, this is a COMPLETE repudiation of the climate Alarmists agenda. When Americans are asked they consistently say that while environmentalism is a good goal, they do NOT want to pay a lot to accomplish it. The PRICE that people are willing to pay for something is a "poll" of sorts. In this case, the support for unbounded' costly environmentalism is very low. What Europe has quickly decided is that practical energy policy VASTLY trumps environmentalism! PERIOD! END OF DISCUSSION! Further, it is abundantly clear that despite all the predictions that we can transition to Green energy, it is a lie. The technology to do so does NOT exist.
The TRUTH is that Alarmists have been pushing us to is a low energy, miserable, deadly existence. The current results of failed "enlightened" energy policies are like a worldwide string of Category 5 hurricanes hitting across the world. Europe's response per the article and America's likely response in November is to toss the insane Alarmist policy makers out on their butts.
Once politicians realize that it is not in their best interest to promote such policies, i.e they can't get elected, the truth will begin to emerge and support for the Alarmists will fall apart.

An interesting fact, the windmills being torn down are no longer eligible for subsidies from the government…

They must be desperate. Coal typically comes in three broad grades. Anthracite (hard coal), Bituminous (soft coal) and Lignite (coal that is barely coal. More like wood). Lignite is the least desirable of all the grades.
But I guess you burn what you have.

Got to give them credit for admitting a mistake and correcting it before thousands die. Will the thickheads in the US be able to react that quickly?

They are also transitioning to wood this winter keep from freezing to death. Many more people die from freezing than from overheating. This obviously means we need more global warming, not less. Climate change hysteria is only believed by progressive libs who know zero about the actual science. Idiots all.

Back in the early 60s, my science teacher taught us about the 3 grades of coal referenced above. She said that during hard times, people 'found' coal along the tracks, or in coal yards. The easiest to get was lignite. People hauled it home in gunny sacks, and it was called 'Lug-night'.

The beginning of the return of sanity. Too bad wind turbines can't be burned as fuel. They can't even be recycled. Just a blot on the earth forever.
