It looks like the Washington Post has discovered that political violence is bad. Unfortunately, the paper is probably two years too late.
The Post editorial board wrote this week that comments made recently by Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., are “especially dangerous,” “reckless,” and “heighten the risk of unrest.” What Graham did was state the obvious: if President Biden’s Justice Department criminally prosecutes Trump, a likely political opponent in 2024, over his handling of government documents, it may very well result in rioting.

The months of July and August of this year have been among the quietest in terms of hurricane activity since World War II, a Colorado meteorologist said this week, with August shaping up to have the lowest hurricane activity since the late 1990s.
Philip Klotzbach, a forecaster at Colorado State University specializing in Atlantic basin hurricanes, wrote on Twitter on Tuesday that "for the first time since 1941, the Atlantic has had no named storm (e.g., tropical storm or [hurricane]) activity from July 3rd-August 30th."

I still think this is the likeliest Senate swing seat to go blue this fall. Dr. Oz’s favorability in numerous polls has been brutal and he’s too much of a squish to expect much by way of enthusiastic MAGA turnout. (Although getting to run on the same ballot as Doug Mastriano will help with that.) He’s also certainly going to be outspent before this race is done.

We’ve been seeing a lot of FBI folks coming forward to blow the whistle on the politicization of the bureau, including accusations that they’ve been biased in shutting down lines of investigation against Hunter Biden and biased in opening them up regarding President Donald Trump. We saw that one person accused of bias by the whistleblowers has now been shown the door — Timothy Thibault, who was allegedly involved at different points both in investigations against Trump and Hunter Biden.
But it sounds like the whistleblowers might be making the Biden Administration nervous with what they’re revealing.

The FBI rank-and-file have lost confidence in Director Christopher Wray and are calling for his resignation, according to a report.
Kurt Siuzdak, a lawyer and former FBI agent who now represents whistleblowers at the bureau, said that agents are telling him Wray has lost control of the agency and they do not see how he can continue in his position.
'I'm hearing from [FBI personnel] that they feel like the director has lost control of the bureau,' Siuzdak told the Washington Times.
'They're saying, 'How does this guy survive? He's leaving. He's got to leave.'

You can always count on the New York Times to put its liberal spin on events. For instance, this breaking news headline: “Mikhail Gorbachev, the Soviet leader who transformed the map of Europe and presided over the end of the Cold War, has died at 91.”
We can see the spin here: the Times gives Gorbachev credit for being the doer, using the two active-voice verbs “transformed” and “presided.” In other words, the Times is awarding the deceased communist kudos for ending the Cold War and liberating Eastern Europe. Not someone such as, say, the anti-communist Ronald Reagan or other heroes of anti-Soviet resistance.

If Jeremy Bash’s appointment last week to the President’s Intelligence Advisory Board is any guide to how the White House picks its top intel folks, the nation can forget about getting reliable intel.
Bash exposed himself as a political hack eager to exploit his authority for partisan purposes back in October 2020, when he joined 50 other former intelligence officials and signed an open letter pretending that The Post’s reporting off Hunter Biden’s laptop was likely Russian disinformation.
It has “has the classic earmarks of a Russian information operation,” the 51 claimed — without actually explaining how, because it didn’t. It was just info they didn’t want voters

During a recent episode of MSNBC’s Katie Phang Show, Peter Strzok — disgraced former deputy director of the FBI’s counterintelligence division — weighed in on his former organization’s raid on Mar-a-Lago. Phang asked Strzok if he thought it was possible that Russia had “tried to infiltrate” former President Trump’s home to obtain classified data, considering the allegedly “top-secret” documents that were being stored there.

Take, for example, the recent situation at Grant Park Christian Academy in Tampa, where the federal government wasthreatening to take awayschool lunchesfor underprivileged children unless the school allowed, among other things, male students to share lockers, showers, and bathrooms with female students. Republican Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp continues to hold a decisive lead over Democrat Stacey Abrams in Georgia’s gubernatorial race, according to a poll published Tuesday.
A Trafalgar Group poll showed that of 1,079 likely general election voters, 50.6 percent would vote to reelect Kemp, who is running for his second term as governor. Abrams, running against the incumbent for the second time, only received 44.2 percent in the poll, six points behind Kemp.
The gubernatorial race poll is a good sign for Kemp’s reelection effort. The poll also showed that 1.6 percent would vote for another candidate, Shane Hazel, while 0.1 percent said, “other” and 3.5 percent were undecided.

President Joe Biden gave a little speech in front of an enthusiastic crowd of Democrats. The purpose of the speech was to attack Republicans and gin up support for Democrat candidates just in time for the midterms. Naturally, Biden brought up January 6, because what else do Democrats have at this point? The Justice Department will no longer allow political appointees to go to fundraisers and other campaign events under restrictions handed down Tuesday that are aimed at maintaining the department's independence from politics.

President Biden is going to deliver a prime-time speech Thursday on what the White House calls the “battle for the soul of the nation.”
It’s a timely topic with rich possibilities, but none richer than the notion that the Big Guy is qualified to address America’s soul.
