Democrat Mary Peltola has defeated Republican Sarah Palin in the special election for Alaska’s vacant House seat, a big upset over the former governor in the state’s first election under ranked-choice voting.
Peltola, a former state legislator who will become Alaska’s first indigenous member of Congress, defeated a special election field that included Palin and another Republican, Nick Begich III. The Democrat finished first in the initial tally and then won enough second-choice votes from Begich’s supporters to see off Palin, who had former President Donald Trump’s endorsement and previously won a statewide campaign in 2006.

Thanks, Begich. If you had dropped out, Palin might have won, but your ego wouldn't let you.

Palin loses with Trump's endorsement...there's a message there that many will either rationalize or deny. Alaska isn't California or New York. Anyone who thinks the '22 elections will be a skate need to rethink.

Well #1, the Republican establishment got their way this time, not Trump. The Alaskan Republican Party came out hard for Nick Begich and snubbed former Governor Palin. (Of course!) I could find no evidence of GOP money or any name Republicans coming out for Sarah except Trump. I am sure McCarthy and his leadership are thrilled they do not have to worry about having Sarah Palin. They would much rather have the Democrat.

Ranked choice voting is a farce. If no one gets 50%+1, have a runoff between the top 2. Seems only Dems win in these schemes.

This was predictable when Alaskans approved mail-in voting and ranked choice voting. They no longer even have signature verification. Alaska is the new Oregon. Another state down the crapper!

Rank choice seems not Constitutional. You're essentially getting to vote multiple times. And somehow, the Dem always seems to win.

Put in two Repubs to split the vote, then cheat with this ranked voting scam.

You can bet that Begich was paid by Dems. We had that here in KS to stop conservative Kris Kobach.
A totally nonpolitical guy, a plumber who has had his name in radio ads for decades suddenly decided to run, and amazingly got lots of funding, likely from Dems, and successfully split the vote.
This trick was perfected in Chicago, now is std Dem procedure. Find an egotist "conservative", pump him up with OAC money to split the vote. The egotist only has to draw five or ten percent to kill the real conservative's chances.
Meanwhile, Dems make sure to have only one on their side.

Democrats are crowing. I hope it lulls them into a false sense of security. Sarah will mop the floor with them in November.

So Begich Rinos could not lower themselves to vote for MAGA. Result, the Trans Alaskan oil pipeline will be disassembled and you and US will be poor. I will not like it.

More self-immolation by the Republican Party. Rinos are determined to crush any conservative candidates. Old Mitch and Kevin love anyone who will protect the status quo. How many times do we have to watch this happen to good candidates? Frankly, our party in its present state stinks.

The spoiler in this ridiculous ranked election is Nick Begich III, the nephew of former Democratic Sen. Mark Begich. He couldn't win, but he could keep a real Republican from winning. For a Begich it's the family business.

Democrats can't win elections unless they cheat, in this case by changing the rules. Of course, the Alaskans were dumb enough to approve the rank choice voting and mail in voting.
