Liberals love to bleat on these days about how Republicans have been breaching “democratic norms,” but late today one of the most sacrosanct norms of our political order was breached: Someone leaked a draft Supreme Court opinion striking down Roe v. Wade and Planned Parenthood v. Casey in the pending case of Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Association.
The opinion, drafted by Justice Samuel Alito, is 98 pages long, and I’m going to want to read through it carefully before offering conclusions or analysis. But some of the language in the opinion on a first skim seems promising, such as “Roe was egregiously wrong from the start.” Heh:

Politically motivated leaks are no big deal in today’s partisan politics. But something happened today that is utterly unprecedented.
A draft Supreme Court opinion overturning Roe v. Wade was leaked. To my knowledge, this has never happened before.
The leak was obviously by either one of the three Justices in the liberal wing of the Court, or one of their 10-12 clerks who have access to the internal deliberations of the Court. It was presumably for the purpose of ginning up a public outcry to pressure one or more of the majority justices to change his or her mind.

The last several weeks have been full of consternation from the left and right over Gov. Ron DeSantis’ move to strip The Walt Disney Company of its special-governing status. One of the left's useful narratives is that Native Americans lived in idyllic, pastoral harmony, only to have this paradise brutally destroyed by the invading Europeans and their Christian God. There's some truth (some Native American tribes were peaceful and some Europeans brutal), but that's not important for the left. Angelic indigenous people and evil Whites are the core story for them. Another weekend night in lawless Chicago.
A video released this morning shows a group of spectators surrounded by a ring of fire as drag racers prepare to drive donuts around them. Kathy Boudin, who spent decades in prison for her part in the deadly 1981 Brink’s armored truck heist as a member of the radical militant group Weather Underground, died of cancer at the age of 78 in New York on Sunday.

I don’t think it’s a coincidence that so many of the most hysterical climate-change/greenies are based in urban regions. A big city represents the heaviest human footprint there is, something that misleads people into believing that man can ride herd on nature. (Snip) Whether it’s earthquakes, floods, droughts, hurricanes, or just inexorable greenery (e.g., kudzu, every jungle), when nature gets a head of steam, we’re tossed about like ants after a careless human foot kicked their anthill. Ok, maybe not more cowbell, but a complete overhaul of the system – “comprehensive immigration reform” – which is code, or “dog whistle,” to put it in terms Democrats will understand, for amnesty. Sure, it would also involve a lot of other things progressives leftists admit we need to “fix” about the system, but without amnesty, they aren’t interested in any of it. Elon Musk’s purchase of Twitter has made all the right people mad, and that includes a lot of the talking heads within the mainstream media. Initial reactions were as overwrought as you’d expect, with cable news setting its collective hair on fire.
But, if anyone thought the passage of time would bring about some moderation, I can assure you that hasn’t happened. CNN held a hilariously composed roundtable on Sunday morning with figures like Brian Stelter, April Ryan, and someone named David Zurawik. While obviously being an avid political observer, I’ll admit to having no idea who Zurawik is. Yet, my first exposure to him has certainly left an impression. Namely, that he’s deranged.

The New York Times is running a three-part expose of Fox News show host Tucker Carlson. sub-titled “American Nationalist,” delivered by a staggering ten-person research/reporting crew led by reporter Nicholas Confessore, including an exhaustive analysis of 1150 episodes of “Tucker Carlson Tonight” that ran from November 2016 through 2021.
Confessore relied on anonymous sourcing and hostile characterizations of the host’s populist- conservative opinions to bluntly declare both his show and Carlson himself as racist. The headline to Part 1, blared on Sunday's front page, set the tone for this extraordinarily long and completely hostile series, one of the longest things your scribe can remember reading from the Times: “How Tucker Carlson Stoked White Fear
