A 62-year-old man has been identified as a person of interest in the savage Brooklyn subway attack that injured at least 29 people Tuesday morning, officials said.
Frank James rented a U-Haul van tied to the N train attack in Sunset Park and is being sought for questioning, police said at an evening briefing. The key to the van was found at the scene of the crime, as was a credit card that rented the vehicle out of Philadelphia, cops and law-enforcement sources said.
It is unclear if James is the suspected gunman, the department said.
Authorities said 10 of the injured commuters had been wounded by gunfire.

Sen. Joe Manchin of West Virginia issued a scathing statement on the development on Tuesday, rejecting Biden’s attempts to invoke political excuses for the price squeezes on middle-class Americans.
“Let me be clear, inflation is a tax, and today’s historic inflation data tells another chilling story about how these taxes on Americans are completely out of control,” Manchin said.
Manchin directly criticized Biden’s administration for failing to provide solutions to the problem, instead looking for someone to blame.

Gilbert Gottfried, the actor and legendary standup comic known for his raw, scorched voice and crude jokes, has died. He was 67.
Gottfried died from recurrent ventricular tachycardia due to myotonic dystrophy type II, a disorder that affects the heart, his publicist and longtime friend Glenn Schwartz said in a statement.
His family shared the sad news Tuesday on his Twitter account.
“We are heartbroken to announce the passing of our beloved Gilbert Gottfried after a long illness,” they said.

New York Lt. Gov. Brian Benjamin has resigned after he surrendered to authorities to face campaign finance fraud-related charges in connection with a past campaign, Gov. Kathy Hochul announced.
"I have accepted Brian Benjamin's resignation effective immediately. While the legal process plays out, it is clear to both of us that he cannot continue to serve as Lieutenant Governor. New Yorkers deserve absolute confidence in their government, and I will continue working every day to deliver for them," Hochul said in a statement Tuesday afternoon.
Following news of his resignation, Benjamin's attorneys, James D. Gatta and William Harrington issued a statement calling his actions "laudable -- not criminal."
Police have located a U-Haul van believed to be tied to the gunman who shot at least ten people at a Brooklyn subway station on Tuesday morning, according to several reports.
Police sources told the New York Post and the Associated Press that the white truck with Arizona plates was recovered in Gravesend on West Third Street near Kings Highway. The van was discovered after investigators found a credit card at the scene of the shooting that they believe belongs to the gunman, according to the New York Post. One of the charges on the card was for a rental out of Philadelphia.

At least 10 Brooklyn subway riders were shot Tuesday by a man wearing a gas mask and a green construction vest who tossed a smoke canister in the train car to distract the rush hour crowd before opening fire, officials and law enforcement sources said.
One source close to the investigation says his gun may have jammed, potentially preventing further loss of life. A weapon was recovered at the scene, as was a bag with smoke canisters and fireworks, lending further credence to the theory of a premeditated attack on New York City transit riders, sources and officials say.

A desperate hunt is underway for the gunman in Tuesday morning's subway horror shooting in New York City who shot ten people on a packed commuter train during rush hour but remains at large.

On Tuesday morning, New York Lt. Gov. Brian Benjamin surrendered to authorities “to face fraud-related charges in connection with a previous political campaign,” according to a report from The Daily Beast.
Benjamin was arrested on multiple charges, including bribery, over an alleged plot to get campaign contributions in exchange for a state grant.
Benjamin is expected to appear in Manhattan federal court Tuesday afternoon, and the U.S. Southern District of New York is scheduled to hold a press conference at noon. Gov. Kathy Hochul appointed Benjamin as her lieutenant governor last year.

Very few Americans believe the nation is doing “very well” under President Joe Biden’s leadership, a Sunday CBS News poll revealed.
Only 7 percent of Americans believe the country is doing very well, while 33 percent say the nation is doing very badly.
On the economy, nine percent of Americans say Biden’s national economy is doing very well. Thirty-one percent said it is doing very badly. On whether Biden is doing enough to reduce 40-year-high inflation, only 31 percent say he is, while 69 percent say he is not.
Biden’s approval with independents is also struggling. Only 12 percent of independents strongly approve of the president. Forty-one percent strongly disapprove.

Prices that consumers pay on everyday items surged in March to their highest levels since the early days of the Reagan administration, according to Labor Department data released Tuesday.
The consumer price index, which measures a wide-ranging basket of goods and services, jumped 8.5% from a year ago on an unadjusted basis, above even the already elevated Dow Jones estimate for 8.4%.
Excluding food and energy, the CPI increased 6.5%, in line with the expectation.
The data reflected price increases not seen in the U.S. since the stagflation days of the late 1970s and early ’80s.
Restaurants across the nation are cutting specific promotions and reworking menu specials amid record inflation levels.
Food prices were up 7.9 percent in February compared to one year ago, and March’s numbers are expected to continue the upward trend when they are released Tuesday.
After one year’s worth of rising inflation, consumers across the country are swapping expensive items for cheaper counterparts, causing retail stores and restaurants to rethink their sales and menu deals.

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) recently warned against impeaching President Biden when they retake the House. As calls for Biden’s impeachment are increasing on the right, it appears the lawmaker is signaling that he would not lend his support to such an endeavor.
