Pope Francis is at it again. Although it is traditional for papal podiums to depict the crucifix, during his recent visit to the island of Malta, Pope Francis ditched the cross lest he offend Muslim migrants. As the archdiocese of Malta openly admitted, “The podium will not be adorned with a crucifix, given that the majority of migrants are Muslim.”
Instead, the podium backdrop used by Francis consisted of recycled plastic bottles with red blobs meant to highlight the two primary reasons Francis was visiting Malta -- to defend migrants and the environment:

It seems to me that the classic Rhetorical Question is no longer Rhetorical:
"Is the Pope Catholic?"

Shame! “We preach Christ crucified” is central to Christian doctrine! We certainly aren’t ashamed of His cross where he bore the sins of the world! Our cross has no figure of the Savior on it…”He is risen…he is risen indeed!”

Isn't it more incumbent upon guests to not be offensive to the hosts?

Someone should tell Francis - this Holy Week - that Christianity is The Cross. (To replace the Cross with a backdrop of plastic bottles! Like Biden, he is an embarrassment to his faith.)

People have achieved sainthood in their defense of the Cross. Martyrs have gladly given up their lives expressing their Christianity and the Cross. This Jesuit stand-in should rush himself to the confessional and beg for forgiveness, then abdicate in favor of a future Pope that will defend the Cross, the Church and Christians everywhere.

He probably also banned any display of the Maltese cross. This pope is NOT a Catholic.

#8, I think the proper term here is "excuse". Personally, I don't worship the pope. If you require a man other than Jesus Christ to be unbroken, you don't understand Christianity in the first place.
Peter denied Christ three times, and yet Christ rose again to cover his sins, your sins, my sins. Christ is The Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world. Nothing the Pope says or does will ever change that fact.

It is not his job to defend the migrants and the environment. It is his job to spread the word of the Gospel.

watered down Catholicism is at the heart of the decline of organized religion and Pope Pudgy is no longer the leader of a religious faction but a nuisance to those who hold the Catholic religion in some kind of reverence

What some intend for evil, God has a way of turning into good. Just imagine how many more folks are thinking about Jesus and the Cross today just because their political senses are outraged.
#8, please don't starve yourself of the Eucharist to spite a sinful man. There are lots of them around, and we can't base our relationship with Christ on them.

In Catholic churches in the United States, the cross and all statues and art work are covered during Lent. I'm wondering if this is the real reason there is no cross and some writer at the Times of Malta assumed it was to placate Muslims.

Malta.
The home of the Knights of St. John, known as the Hospitallars, after they had to leave the Holy Land. The eight-pointed cross of their order is the one known as the Maltese Cross. It is formed of four arrowheads converging at their points and represent the arrows used to kill St. John. All other forms of "Maltese" crosses derive from this one.
Since the Knights of St. John started out as offering a safe place for pilgrims to the Holy Land to stay (known as "hospitals"), the Maltese Cross and many of its derivations are associated with groups that offer aid to others. (In America, ask a fireman what he (default non-specific pronoun used for all sentient beings) calls that very elaborate cross on his T-shirt is called.)
The Knights of St. John still exist, have both Catholic and Protestant versions, and have had women members since the Middle Ages.

The early Christians had the courage to face death to speak the gospel and the martyrs were revered in the book of Revelation. Who is this pope?

The Pope is a squish. If he's squeamish about the cross, I suggest he immediately move out of the Vatican. Less exposure to offending symbols, you know?

15 If the Pope's rule had not been "watered down" heretics would still be burned at the stake as would do Kings and Queens of England. My dear Mother told me: "They are just men." I think this elderly man takes his orders from the Cardinals who love to swish in their silk robes. God will be harsh on them for their sins.
