The Department of Justice (DOJ) is suing the state of Texas over its new redistricting maps, Attorney General Merrick Garland announced Monday.
The lawsuit, which was filed in the Western District of Texas, claims that the state violated Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act. The maps were drawn by state lawmakers during a special session and were signed and approved by Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, a Republican, in October.
“Today, the Justice Department has filed suit against the state of Texas for violating Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act,” Garland said in a press conference Monday.

I'm sure they already have a "friendly" federal judge lined up to shoot down Texas redistricting.
I hope the Supreme Court is ready to act on this very quickly, but given their instability, I don't have a lot of hope...

Attorney General Merrick "Gestapo" Garland busy with his monocle firmly in place. Doing what he feels is correct fuels the motivation to rule with an iron fist. A nod of approval from the Demented Fuhrer.

How about the DOJ check the state of Virginia. Dems are redistricting a Republican out of a job. Already elected! Where is the outrage!

Gerrymandering is only "right" when it benefits the demcommies, otherwise it's un-American, hence, illegal, according to the demcommies.
I think it borders on the "State's Rights" issue and can't be touched because elections, congressional districting, etc are local matters and the federal government has no legal standing to interpret the matter.

How exactly does the Texas redistricting plan prevent anyone from voting? Like every other election, voters will still have a choice of who ever is on the ballot. If they want someone different, then get someone of your choice to run and stop whining. DOJ is very selective in who they think rigs Congressional Districts.

DOJ is out of line here. Unfortunately for Pennsylvania, the Democrat Supreme Court does the redistricting, overruling the Republican legislature. In 2020, Roberts broke a Supreme Court tie to allow that. Maybe we'll have better luck this time.

What the hell is a Gupta and is it catching, a friend asked one day. I replied that I had it once but a shot of Penicillin cleared it right up.

The Voting Rights Section and the Civil Rights Section of the DoJ have always been the Democrats' goon squad when they're in power.

The Dems are trying to redraw lines for the West Texas district that was held by Dems in the past. That district was meant to be for a Hispanic, according to Dems. Then they elected a Black Republican, Will Hurd. After Hurd, the district elected Tony Gonzales, a Republican and Navy veteran. So, it is not enough that the district elects a "minority;" they must have a Democrat, according to the DNC / DOJ.
The Texas AG, can pull out the copies of legal briefs from 2011 and 2001. The new hires over in the Solicitor General's office should be be able to "cookbook" this one (just do what they did last time, like using a recipe).

rats never miss a trick. Even with ballot box stuffing of made up 'write ins' they want to belt and suspender their fraud. Elections and our representatives are becoming less and less effective at holding back the new barbarians.

The Democrats don't allow Republicans to draw districting maps. Texas is in continuous litigation over their districting maps, and expects nothing to ever change.
