A U.S. federal judge in Texas on Friday blocked new applications to a program that protects immigrants who were brought to the United States as children from deportation. U.S. District Judge Andrew Hanen sided with a group of states suing to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, arguing it was illegally created by former President Barack Obama in 2012.Hanen found the program violated the Administrative Procedure Act (APA) when it was created but said that since there were so many people currently enrolled in the program -

A Chinese smartphone maker just took a big bite out of Apple. Beijing-based Xiaomi shipped more smartphones worldwide than Apple during the second quarter of this year — edging past the iPhone maker for the first time, according to a report. Xiaomi was responsible for 17 percent of all smartphone shipments during the April-through-June period, while Apple shipped 14 percent, according to the report by market analyst Canalys. Meanwhile, South Korean giant Samsung held onto the No. 1 spot, with 19 percent of shipments. The report comes as Apple pushes high-end devices like the iPhone 12, some of which come with sticker prices of more than $1,000.

A federal judge issued an injunction on Friday ordering the Biden administration to cease accepting applications to the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program.
The program, initially established in 2012 under the Obama administration, allows illegal immigrants brought to the U.S. as children to defer deportation for two years and to renew the deferral, as well as to receive work permits. DACA recipients are not granted a path to citizenship.
The Department of Homeland Security “violated the [Administrative Procedure Act] with the creation of DACA and its continued operation,” Judge Andrew Hanen of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas wrote in a ruling on Friday.

We are once again being warned of incoming dangers, particularly for coastal regions, as sea levels rise and the tides become higher and stronger. Normally, the next two words following such a dire forecast would be “climate change,” but now there’s a different cause being given. The moon will be starting to “wobble” more in its orbit in the next decade, exerting a greater gravitational pull on the oceans, so tides will continue to grow higher for the following ten years before slowly beginning to recede again. When you combine these accelerated tides with higher ocean levels (that’s the part they’ll blame on climate change)

Given that black and Hispanic students are more likely to be lagging academically, it’s a question that anyone professing to care deeply about social inequality might consider.

According to him, it was “a well-planned attempt at provoking a civil uprising.” What’s extraordinary, though, is that, wherever armed, law-abiding citizens have been able to make a stand against the violence and anarchy, the rioters are backing down. My friend forwarded to me a round-robin letter (“the Letter”) that South Africans are sharing -- and that reflects his experiences. Young adults today are likely unfamiliar with the term “misery index.” But they could soon learn about it the hard way, thanks to President Joe Biden’s economic incompetence.
The misery index, a measure started under President Lyndon Johnson, is a simple measure combining the unemployment rate and the inflation rate. The idea being that joblessness and a fast-rising cost of living produces palpable misery in the country.
The index has long been forgotten because it’s been so low for so long.

ROME — Pope Francis cracked down Friday on the spread of the old Latin Mass, reversing one of Pope Benedict XVI’s signature decisions in a major challenge to traditionalist Catholics who immediately decried it as an attack on the ancient liturgy. Francis reimposed restrictions on celebrating the Latin Mass that Benedict relaxed in 2007. The pontiff said he was taking action because Benedict’s reform had become a source of division in the church and been used as a tool by Catholics opposed to the Second Vatican Council, the 1960s meetings that modernized the liturgy. Francis issued a new law requiring individual bishops to approve celebrations of the old Mass

If this is Joe Biden when he’s forceful and passionate, the country is better off with the passive and detached version. The president gave a thunderous address in Philadelphia on Tuesday denouncing alleged Republican voter suppression. Playing on the darkest fears of Democrats and layering on the adjectival overkill, Biden blatantly distorted Republican state-level election laws in a frankly demagogic speech.Biden rightly excoriated former President Donald Trump, if not by name, for his conduct since the election. But he also lashed the Republican election bills.

On Tuesday's Deadline: White House, host Nicolle Wallace claimed that her status as a former Republican gives her the ability to say that the GOP knows it must suppress the minority vote in order to win. She was saying President Biden was right to trash Republicans as the greatest threat to democracy since the Civil War.Wallace began by quoting PBS White House correspondent and MSNBC contributor Yamiche Alcindor's positive tweet: "That was one of President Biden's most passionate speeches of his presidency, possibly of his entire career. He's saying very clearly this is a crisis as important as to what led to the Civil War. He said 'peddlers of lies

Joe “Grandpa Disaster” Biden was at it again today during his briefing with German Chancellor Angela Merkel at the White House today.
Biden definitely seemed to be having a hard time with basic coherence.
In his homage to her years of service, he mistakenly called her the “second largest” but then corrected that to the “second longest” serving chancellor. Largest and longest are both good words, but hardly interchangeable and certainly not the best word to use here when referring to Merkel. He then said that they needed to “upend” their “global climate ambitions.”

Usually when a migrant is picked up at the border and makes a claim of asylum, the border patrol processes those claims and gives the migrants a “notice to appear” in a specific court at a specific time. But back in April the Associated Press reported that because of the big surge of migrants at the border, many were being released into the interior of the country with just an instruction which told them to report to an ICE facility within 60 days for processing:
The Border Patrol began the unusual practice last week in Texas’ Rio Grande Valley, which has seen the biggest increase

The Washington Post reports, with obvious dismay, that American Airlines, Cigna, Aflak, and other corporations are once again making campaign contributions to legislators who opposed certifying Joe Biden’s victory in the 2020 election. The corporations in question stopped contributing to these members after the events of January 6 this year.
However, with the possible exception of Cigna, they didn’t say they would never again contribute to any of them. The companies merely paused their contributions. Thus, the subtitle of the Post’s article — “The flow of money is a sign that corporate America’s promises were temporary” — is nonsensical. The “promises” were “temporary” on their face.
American Airlines said it would pause
