Anyone reading this who attended a Latin mass means it’s not ancient. Traditional, but not ancient. Actually timeless if you ask me.

Both ancient and timeless, #3. Once again, the commie pope gets it exactly wrong. Good luck enforcing it. There are churches which will continue with the traditional Tridentine mass no matter what the Vatican says. We used to attend one back in the late 90’s/early 2,000’s when it was “forbidden”.

I went from being an altar boy in the early 1950s, capable of reciting my part of the Mass in Latin, soothed by the unintrusive sounds of the church organ, to a congregant in a noisy, guitar plucking hootenanny. And all of that happened within the span of a decade. And no matter the country I served in, prior to the hootenanny liturgy phase, I could enjoy the Mass. But that all changed.

Ya'll didn't get the memo. Latin is racist and or white supremacist....or something. Not kidding, so no sarcasm off.

This man is a DISASTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Not MY Pope, that is for sure, and a real incentive for Catholics to leave the Church----which they are doing.

My pope is John Paul II. He freed Eastern Europe from totalitarianism and communism. In other words, he was PRO-LIFE. Life lived freely before God. I venerate the man; he is a saint.

#5 - it isn't just the Catholic church that went nuts - I've have trouble finding a Presbyterian (or any Protestant) church whose service isn't a "What's Happenin' Now, guitar and drum disaster with "praise music" instead of beautiful hymns. Luckily, there are a few traditional churches around that stream their services and they're a joy to "attend." In addition to liberals ruining everything they touch, I would also say Boomers have done a lot of damage as well - they're the ones who wanted to "modernize" the mainstream Protestant churches and drove many into a ditch.

Being an Orthodox Christian, this thinking bewilders me... as does Francis. The Orthodox mass, which we call the Divine Liturgy, was written in about 400 AD with a slightly older version being used during Lent. Other than being translated into the local languages of the people (in most cases) that's all the change that has happened. It's quite amazing to know the words and scriptures that inspire and comfort me on Sunday are the exact same words that have inspired and comforted billions for over 1600 years. In our busy world, it is wonderful to experience that timelessness. I assume that is also how the Latin Mass feels. It is terrible to restrict the use of something that gives the flock of Christ comfort and peace.

My father hated the change from Latin. He was outspoken about it. I was in 6th grade and I had learned the Mass in Latin. I never liked the hootenanny style, and then when they added electric guitars and keyboards, I think it drove people away. I spent 30 years on the evangelical side and then came back to Catholicism around the year 2000. I discovered there was a fullness I didn't experience with evangelicals. At a soul level, it worked for me. I learned the Bible as an evangelical, and it's come in handy if I need to discuss it with others. And it's great in my men's prayer group. But the protestant movement started in the 1500s. They ignore 1500 years of history and teaching. And they don't have an appreciation for the art and music that developed prior to the reformation. DO they really believe that the church began with Luther at the Wittenburg Door. I don't like a few things in the Catholic church, nor their support for pro-abortion politicians, their lack of outreach to young people. I don't like the pope. In fact I haven't liked any after Pope John 23.

I was15 years old when Vatican II was implemented and it was the advent of my departure from the Church. Like #5 I had been an Altar boy and loved the Latin and the rituals "Pange lingua gloriosi corporis mysterium". Universal slowly became localized and rules changed from diocese to diocese. While in the Navy in foreign countries I didn't feel a part of the Mass. The end came when I married a non Catholic and I could not find a priest who would bless the Sacrement without strict adherence to RCC doctrine I did not believe she should have go accept.. Adios!

I remember the Second Vatican Council. As with other posters on this thread, it marked the beginning of my departure from the religion of my ancestors on both sides of my family, French Canadian and Irish. I twas the beginning of the destruction of the church - and they did it themselves.

The Latin mass is closer to the Church’s roots, therefore it cannot be allowed to stand, as it might heighten the difference between conservative Catholicism and the liberal morass the current Church has become. The Russian Orthodox Church and the Antiochian Orthodox Church both offer valid versions of the Traditional Latin mass in English.

I will not have it be taken from me again! All of this is happening just as was foretold by Our Lady at Fatima, Akita and in the vision of Pope Leo XIII. To all of you, Catholic or not, ask yourself what Power does the pre Vatican II Mass have and why does Bergolio and his cabal want so badly to suppress it? Read Infiltration by Dr. Taylor Marshall and anything by Archbishop Vigano to understand there's not only the Deep State but the Deep Church. The Remnant of the Church will survive. Back in my teens I had a Catholic friend who invited me to attend Mass a couple of times. I found the Latin Mass to be majestic and moving. That almost caused this old Scots-Irish Presbyterian to convert.

Re #5....my biggest problem with going to church today (not Catholic church) is the horrible music. I'm sorry, singing Christmas songs does NOT go with a fool with a drum kit crashing away. What is wrong with a simple piano or organ, and no other instruments except human voices? And why no old hymns like Rock of Ages, or Onward Christian Soldiers or dozens of others that I love from my youth? The biggest thing keeping me from going to church every Sunday is the hideous music. It really is insipid and depressing, and I just can't bear it.

It's one thing to officially handicap the Latin Mass. It's a worse thing to blame the Latin Mass in 2021 for 'divisiveness' caused by officially handicapping the Latin Mass in 1965.

Also, read on Spirit Daily today, that vocations to the priesthood were exploding in parishes with the Latin rite masses. There is about a 7 to 1 ratio of vocations coming from Latin Mass parishes as compared to parishes that only offer the ordinary mass. There is still room for the Traditional Latin Mass, though the local Bishop again has authority over most of the manners of public worship within his own diocese. Some of the traditional form's devotees do go overboard, to the point of rejecting the entirety of Vatican II, and need some restraint. But many of their counterparts also go way overboard in their vitriol against the TLM. It will bear watching how this gets implemented (and how many places are forced to choose whether to give up the Latin or give up fidelity to Rome). Especially because there are many Bishops who view traditionalists as absolute heretics.

I had not been to mass in years until I went to my mother's funeral mass. It was not a Latin mass (though my mother loved it), but it was a very peaceful, traditional mass. I actually enjoyed it enough to where I decided to go to our local parish Sunday mass the next week. OMG I wish it was just a hootenanny! It was annoying, grating and an assault to the senses, hardly a place for prayer. Haven't been back.

What does it matter if the Mass is in Latin or english or any other language. As long as people attend isn't that what counts?

I'm still convinced that Pope Benedict is a prisoner in the Vatican, and was forced to "retire" or meet the same fate as Pope John Paul.
