Pope reverses Benedict, reimposes
restrictions on Latin Mass

Original Article

Posted By: IowaDad, 7/16/2021 7:38:41 AM

ROME — Pope Francis cracked down Friday on the spread of the old Latin Mass, reversing one of Pope Benedict XVI’s signature decisions in a major challenge to traditionalist Catholics who immediately decried it as an attack on the ancient liturgy. Francis reimposed restrictions on celebrating the Latin Mass that Benedict relaxed in 2007. The pontiff said he was taking action because Benedict’s reform had become a source of division in the church and been used as a tool by Catholics opposed to the Second Vatican Council, the 1960s meetings that modernized the liturgy. Francis issued a new law requiring individual bishops to approve celebrations of the old Mass

Comments:

Many old Catholics, and idealistic young ones, have enormous respect for the ancient Latin mass. But ignorant Church administrators find it to be subversive. So the Pope has decided that the way to heal the division between old and new is to be more divisive. This won't end well

Anyone reading this who attended a Latin mass means it’s not ancient. Traditional, but not ancient. Actually timeless if you ask me.

Both ancient and timeless, #3. Once again, the commie pope gets it exactly wrong. Good luck enforcing it. There are churches which will continue with the traditional Tridentine mass no matter what the Vatican says. We used to attend one back in the late 90’s/early 2,000’s when it was “forbidden”.

I went from being an altar boy in the early 1950s, capable of reciting my part of the Mass in Latin, soothed by the unintrusive sounds of the church organ, to a congregant in a noisy, guitar plucking hootenanny. And all of that happened within the span of a decade. And no matter the country I served in, prior to the hootenanny liturgy phase, I could enjoy the Mass. But that all changed.

does it matter if a person prays in, polish, Italian, etc., or Latin. think Frank should stick to the problem of bishops who stop priests from speaking the truth about how bishops protect those who support abortion (biden)and bringing and protecting illegals. More money is given by this government to bishops to protect illegals then stopping abortions.

#5 - it isn't just the Catholic church that went nuts - I've have trouble finding a Presbyterian (or any Protestant) church whose service isn't a "What's Happenin' Now, guitar and drum disaster with "praise music" instead of beautiful hymns. Luckily, there are a few traditional churches around that stream their services and they're a joy to "attend." In addition to liberals ruining everything they touch, I would also say Boomers have done a lot of damage as well - they're the ones who wanted to "modernize" the mainstream Protestant churches and drove many into a ditch.

Being an Orthodox Christian, this thinking bewilders me... as does Francis. The Orthodox mass, which we call the Divine Liturgy, was written in about 400 AD with a slightly older version being used during Lent. Other than being translated into the local languages of the people (in most cases) that's all the change that has happened. It's quite amazing to know the words and scriptures that inspire and comfort me on Sunday are the exact same words that have inspired and comforted billions for over 1600 years. In our busy world, it is wonderful to experience that timelessness. I assume that is also how the Latin Mass feels. It is terrible to restrict the use of something that gives the flock of Christ comfort and peace.

My father hated the change from Latin. He was outspoken about it. I was in 6th grade and I had learned the Mass in Latin. I never liked the hootenanny style, and then when they added electric guitars and keyboards, I think it drove people away. I spent 30 years on the evangelical side and then came back to Catholicism around the year 2000. I discovered there was a fullness I didn't experience with evangelicals. At a soul level, it worked for me. I learned the Bible as an evangelical, and it's come in handy if I need to discuss it with others. And it's great in my men's prayer group. But the protestant movement started in the 1500s. They ignore 1500 years of history and teaching. And they don't have an appreciation for the art and music that developed prior to the reformation. DO they really believe that the church began with Luther at the Wittenburg Door. I don't like a few things in the Catholic church, nor their support for pro-abortion politicians, their lack of outreach to young people. I don't like the pope. In fact I haven't liked any after Pope John 23.

I was15 years old when Vatican II was implemented and it was the advent of my departure from the Church. Like #5 I had been an Altar boy and loved the Latin and the rituals "Pange lingua gloriosi corporis mysterium". Universal slowly became localized and rules changed from diocese to diocese. While in the Navy in foreign countries I didn't feel a part of the Mass. The end came when I married a non Catholic and I could not find a priest who would bless the Sacrement without strict adherence to RCC doctrine I did not believe she should have go accept.. Adios!

Sorry, the Pope decreed this? The Pope that we’ve been told is dying? No, this is rule by staffers, just like in Washington DC. The Latin mass is closer to the Church’s roots, therefore it cannot be allowed to stand, as it might heighten the difference between conservative Catholicism and the liberal morass the current Church has become. People who like the Latin mass like the aesthetic. Leave them alone.

And so begins the Passion of the Bride of Christ, the Church, just as Our Lord said. The Freemasons who infiltrated the Church thought they buried the Traditional Latin Mass with Vatican II, and the Greatest Generation for the most part obediently rolled over and accepted the Novus Ordo. Their children, the Baby Boomers and Generation X, left starving by the watered down and often even invalid Masses. have left the Church in droves. But thanks to Archbishop Lefebvre who preserved it, and our Pope in exile, Benedict, the TLM not only was kept alive but in recent years, thrived. I was just a baby when the change occurred. I will not have it be taken from me again! All of this is happening just as was foretold by Our Lady at Fatima, Akita and in the vision of Pope Leo XIII. To all of you, Catholic or not, ask yourself what Power does the pre Vatican II Mass have and why does Bergolio and his cabal want so badly to suppress it? Read Infiltration by Dr. Taylor Marshall and anything by Archbishop Vigano to understand there's not only the Deep State but the Deep Church. The Remnant of the Church will survive. We have Christ's promise. St. Michael the Archangel defend us in battle!

Re #5....my biggest problem with going to church today (not Catholic church) is the horrible music. I'm sorry, singing Christmas songs does NOT go with a fool with a drum kit crashing away. What is wrong with a simple piano or organ, and no other instruments except human voices? And why no old hymns like Rock of Ages, or Onward Christian Soldiers or dozens of others that I love from my youth? The biggest thing keeping me from going to church every Sunday is the hideous music. It really is insipid and depressing, and I just can't bear it.

Also, read on Spirit Daily today, that vocations to the priesthood were exploding in parishes with the Latin rite masses. There is about a 7 to 1 ratio of vocations coming from Latin Mass parishes as compared to parishes that only offer the ordinary mass. Read this quote on a Malachi Martin site: "One must resist the Pope who openly destroys the Church ." St. Cajetan

There is still room for the Traditional Latin Mass, though the local Bishop again has authority over most of the manners of public worship within his own diocese. Some of the traditional form's devotees do go overboard, to the point of rejecting the entirety of Vatican II, and need some restraint. But many of their counterparts also go way overboard in their vitriol against the TLM. It will bear watching how this gets implemented (and how many places are forced to choose whether to give up the Latin or give up fidelity to Rome). Especially because there are many Bishops who view traditionalists as absolute heretics.

I had not been to mass in years until I went to my mother's funeral mass. It was not a Latin mass (though my mother loved it), but it was a very peaceful, traditional mass. I actually enjoyed it enough to where I decided to go to our local parish Sunday mass the next week. OMG I wish it was just a hootenanny! It was annoying, grating and an assault to the senses, hardly a place for prayer. Haven't been back.

#17~ With all due respect, it is heart-wrenching that, after more than 500 years, there remains a visceral hatred for Pastor Martin Luther and the Reformation. Martin Luther’s love for God was the essence of his “reform.” His principal concern was “the proclamation of the gospel, and all other liturgical practices were secondary.” Dr. Luther kept as much as possible in the worship service that he had inherited but removed elements he found contrary to the gospel or distracted people from the main message; he celebrated the Mass with highest reverence. Pastor Luther understood that “liturgical forms change over time based on the setting and the needs of each community. ... Liberty must prevail in these matters and Christians must not be bound by laws and ordinances. That is why the Scriptures prescribe nothing in these matters, but allow for freedom for the Spirit to act according to his own understanding as the respective place, time, and persons may require it. ... Dr. Luther did urge restraint in order to preserve unity in the church. ... As far as possible, we should observe the same rites and ceremonies, just as all Christians have the same baptism and the same sacrament and no one has received a special one of his own from God.” Pastor Luther “saw consistency in worship forms to be especially useful for training the uneducated and the young.” Succeeding generations of Lutherans have followed Pastor Luther’s directives; “the Reformers sought to put the gospel back at the center of worship. ... “of promoting worship that would strengthen faith through the proclamation of the gospel.” No, Lutherans do not “believe that the church began with Luther at the Wittenberg Door.” Quite the contrary—the 95 Theses reflected the heart of a man “captive to the Word of God.” That “the Church is a community of believers, not a hierarchy of officials ... the Bible alone is our authority and not the councils or leaders of the Church.” A traditional Lutheran worship service consists of: Invocation, Confession and Absolution; Kyrie, Hymn of Praise, Word of God and Sermon, Creed, Offertory, Sanctus, Words of Our Lord, Agnus Dei, Distribution, Nunc Dimittis, Benediction. Pastor Luther was a courageous man; he was a monk, a priest, a preacher, a professor, a writer, and a Reformer—“one of the most courageous and influential people in all of history.” This thread reflects the frustrations of Catholics regarding restrictions imposed by Pope Francis on the Latin Mass. Martin Luther was frustrations with the “practices of indulgences.” Ldotters vent on Lucianne.com. Martin Luther vented at the Wittenberg door. #15,#29~ Although not as popular as some denominations or today’s trend of nondenominational churches, a traditional, Scripture-bound church does exist and, depending on the size of the congregation, may offer a traditional as well as a contemporary worship service with traditional or contemporary music; in a smaller congregation, a worship service may be a mix of both traditional and contemporary music.

Former Army Major Gen Paul Eaton, former Brigadier Gen Steven Anderson and former Army Major Gen Antonio Taguba made the worrisome claim in a column for The Washington Post.'As we approach the first anniversary of the deadly insurrection at the US Capitol, we - all of us former senior military officials - are increasingly concerned about the aftermath of the 2024 presidential election

The California Department of Education is facing questions over why it is paying a six figure salary to an individual who has been tasked with overseeing “equity” initiatives in the state’s schools despite his residing in Philadelphia which is over 2,500 miles away. According to a report by Politico, Daniel Lee, who is described as a “psychologist, life coach and self-help author,” was hired to serve as California’s first superintendent of equity, a capacity that he has served in since last summer where he pulls down a salary of “up to $179,832” despite a resume that “shows no prior experience in California or relationships with school districts in the state.”

Joe Biden has announced that the extension on not making student loan payments is ending in February. This is a pet issue for progressives who wanted Biden to forgive all student debt. They are not happy that he is not doing their bidding on this and MA Democrat Ayanna Pressley is even calling student debt “policy violence” whatever that means. There’s a new form of violence in Democrats’ vocabulary. Democratic Rep. Ayanna Pressley of Massachusetts took to social media to push President Biden to universally cancel student debt for U.S. college students and graduates. Reporting on her own canvassing efforts, Pressley said allowing student debt to continue was a form

Kamala Harris on Friday appeared to blame scientists for the United States' failure to be better prepared for Omicron - insisting that the virologists 'upon whose advice and direction we have relied' were blind to the next wave.Harris, in an interview with The Los Angeles Times, said that the Biden administration 'didn't see' Delta and Omicron coming. 'We didn't see Delta coming,' Harris told the paper. 'I think most scientists did not - upon whose advice and direction we have relied - didn't see Delta coming.' Harris spoke as the Omicron variant has been spreading nationwide, with 39 states now having detected cases as of late Friday,

I am not sure who told Chevrolet that what we really needed this Christmas was to ugly cry over an ad they produced for the holidays, but whoever it was needs to go sit in the corner and think about what they’ve done. You may have seen the shortened version of this ad, titled “Holiday Ride,” on TV. But you don’t get the full emotional impact without seeing the extended four-minute version, which is a tear-jerker and hit me harder than listening to my child ask me why Mufasa wasn’t waking up. [Video] All the jokes aside, this ad is possibly one of the most needed

The student newspaper at an Ohio college known for its left-leaning politics published a column addressing the number of white students attending campus concerts. “When there are so few resources for non-white students on campus, it can be upsetting when concerts headlined by artists of color are dominated by white students,” wrote Kayla Kim, a first-year student at Oberlin College. (Snip) The school had already taken steps to address police behavior at campus events, such as requiring a 30-minute behavioral training class and making students sign a form to acknowledge “different identities” before attending affairs monitored by “vibe watchers” looking

In a recent op-ed, the New York Times demanded that all sports leagues shut down for “public health” over the fear of the Omicron variant of the coronavirus. “It’s time to press pause on games, matches, and meets,” the Times piously exclaimed in its editorial. “If we’re genuinely interested in public health, genuinely invested in slowing the virus and saving lives, we need to look at the storm that has gathered and take shelter from it. “Come back in February, or later,” the so-called “paper of record” advised. The Times went on to suggest new policies for all sports leagues, including a long break followed by mask-wearing.

Jake West was a seemingly healthy 17-year-old when he collapsed during high school football practice in Indiana and died of sudden cardiac arrest. A video widely shared online falsely suggests COVID-19 vaccination is to blame, weaving headlines about him into a rapid-fire compilation of news coverage about athletes collapsing. The vaccine played no role in West’s death — he died from an undiagnosed heart condition in 2013, seven years before the pandemic began. The video is just one example of many similar compilations circulating on the internet that use deceptive tactics to link vaccines to a supposed wave of deaths,

Mary Anne Franks, an actual law professor at the University of Miami School, has proposed a “redo” of the First Amendment in a Boston Globe oped. (She likewise proposed a “redo” of the Second Amendment, but perhaps that's better handled separately.) The first and most important of the amendments, she writes, is “deeply flawed” in its conceptualization “of some of the most important rights of a democratic society: the freedom of expression and religion.” The amendment as it stands now, Franks adds, it’s “highly susceptible to being read in isolation from the Constitution as a whole and from its commitments

LOS ANGELES -- Leading California cannabis companies warned Gov. Gavin Newsom on Friday that the state’s legal industry was on the verge of collapse and needed immediate tax cuts and a rapid expansion of retail outlets to steady the shaky marketplace. The letter signed by more than two dozen executives, industry officials and legalization advocates followed years of complaints that the heavily taxed and regulated industry was unable to compete with the widespread illegal economy, where consumer prices are far lower and sales are double or triple the legal business. Four years after broad legal sales began, “our industry is
