The New York Times faced backlash on Sunday for its framing of recent spontaneous protests occurring in Cuba against the communist government.
"Shouting ‘Freedom’ and other anti-government slogans, hundreds of Cubans took to the streets in cities around the country on Sunday to protest food and medicine shortages, in a remarkable eruption of discontent not seen in nearly 30 years," the New York Times tweeted. (Snip) Some on Twitter users called out the New York Times tweet for equating "freedom" as an "anti-government slogan."

With COVID vaccination "rollouts" ongoing, it would seem the angelic host of Big Pharma has swooped in to avert the end of the world, triumphing in the nick of time over a super-lethal, super-contagious, super-pandemic...with a whopping 0.15% infection fatality rate. (Snip) COVID-19 may mark not the end, but the dawn of an age in which mankind will be constantly and inescapably peppered with custom-engineered viruses of all kinds. A great many of these will go by the name "vaccine."

The sage advice that “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” is older than Joe Biden, but apparently he never heard of it. Or doesn’t think much of it.
The president is on a tear, as in tearing up arrangements that were achieving their objectives. His early results are disastrous.
In an act of astonishing foolishness, Biden created a humanitarian and public safety crisis on our southern border by dismantling a successful policy structure that took years to achieve. In the Mideast, he looks determined to undo the Arab-Israeli alliance Donald Trump forged by returning to the failed policies Biden helped to implement in the Obama-Biden administration.

I leave it to you to decide why, from the Trayvon Martin case to the George Floyd case, the media has so consistently misrepresented the facts. Whether it is that unskilled reporters are covering these matters, or that the press is simply looking to attract consumers with florid tales, or that the media looks forward to destroying urban areas with false tales of murderous white racists (amid a shortage of real ones), I cannot say. (Snip) It occurred to me then that if people like these could be sold the false narrative, officer Derek Chauvin was surely in for a judicial lynching.

The first round of statewide school test results from this school year are in, and they show that North Carolina students aren’t doing as well as they did before the coronavirus pandemic.
Test results that will be shared at Wednesday’s State Board of Education meeting show that the majority of high school students did not pass state end-of-course exams given in the fall. The passing rates are also sharply lower on most of those exams than the prior fall, but the state Department of Public Instruction is cautioning against comparing the results.

What we had here was a failure to communicate. Again, on January 6—years after numerous investigations and study commissions picked apart the intelligence failures leading up to the September 11, 2001 terror attacks. Last week, America’s security agencies were again caught flat footed when another kind of militant wave, this time pro-Trump fanatics, stormed and trashed the citadel of American democracy, nearly executing what al-Qaeda had failed to do, destroy the U.S. Capitol.

Jimmy Galligan was in history class last school year when his phone buzzed with a message. Once he clicked on it, he found a three-second video of a white classmate looking into the camera and uttering an anti-Black racial slur. (Snip) “I wanted to get her where she would understand the severity of that word,” Galligan, 18, whose mother is Black and father is white, said of the classmate who uttered the slur, Mimi Groves. He tucked the video away, deciding to post it publicly when the time was right.

Joe Biden lost a sea of Latino, Asian and immigrant votes in the election after being accused of taking them for granted and not putting in enough campaign outreach before November 3.
Detailed voter analysis by The New York Times that was released on Friday revealed how precincts where Latinos and Asians make up at least 65 per cent of the population in cities like Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, Miami and Philadelphia, pulled away from Biden.

A couple of nights ago on Lou Dobbs’s show, President Trump's (and General Michael Flynn’s) lawyer Sidney Powell suggested there was massive fraud in the presidential election vote tabulations. She said she was about to “release the Kraken.” (Snip) To be sure, there is a great deal of evidence of regular old-timey ballot stuffing and standard election fraud, but computer and internet generated mischief has the potential to far exceed that and seems to Trump's lawyers in fact to have done so.

It's well-known enough that China's pleased to see the chaos in U.S. elections—the snide remarks coming from its state propaganda press suggest as much to start. (Snip) China loves the election chaos in the U.S. and is seeking to take advantage of it. Conquering Taiwan is its fondest wish and China is likely to make a move while it perceives the U.S. as weak. (Snip) For [Biden], China is a COVID and global warming story. But right now it's aiming its guns at Taiwan. Has anyone in the press been reporting this?

The nation stands on the cusp of the third and perhaps most notable political realignment in the past 160 years, as those on both sides of the political spectrum recognize that the 2020 election has evolved into a watershed moment in American history. (Snip) It is exceedingly rare for a President to be the primary catalyst in a major and long-term political realignment. Donald Trump has positioned himself to join the rarified pantheon of two former Commanders-in-Chief who achieved that status.

In much the same way that dinosaurs miniaturized to today’s birds, the ancient Democrat solons and media have devolved from positions of respect and power to starlings, annoyingly chirping and scattering guano from their perches. (Snip) This week, fully aware of its partisan, sensationalized, and dishonest reporting, the president, in advance of its airing of a Leslie Stahl interview of him, did what every conservative ought to: He filmed the entire unedited interview and made it public
Comments:
Although surely by accident, the NYT is right. "Freedom" is an anti-government term. Freedom is ours by birth, but government is necessary to maintain civil society, and so we grant government the legal use of force. Moreover, it's a zero sum game. As government expands its power, liberty is diminished. We should never forget that our liberties depend on this careful balance between personal freedom and government force.
