NY Times ripped for equating 'freedom'
as 'anti-government slogan'

Original Article

The New York Times faced backlash on Sunday for its framing of recent spontaneous protests occurring in Cuba against the communist government. "Shouting ‘Freedom’ and other anti-government slogans, hundreds of Cubans took to the streets in cities around the country on Sunday to protest food and medicine shortages, in a remarkable eruption of discontent not seen in nearly 30 years," the New York Times tweeted. (Snip) Some on Twitter users called out the New York Times tweet for equating "freedom" as an "anti-government slogan."

Comments:

Although surely by accident, the NYT is right. "Freedom" is an anti-government term. Freedom is ours by birth, but government is necessary to maintain civil society, and so we grant government the legal use of force. Moreover, it's a zero sum game. As government expands its power, liberty is diminished. We should never forget that our liberties depend on this careful balance between personal freedom and government force.

No surprise here from the NYT. The place is infested with Walter Duranty types who never met a left-wing dictator they won’t cover for and will excuse any atrocities they commit. I still laugh about the terrorist they described as “an austere religious scholar” after Trump had him taken out. Well, maybe not laugh because it’s a symptom of our vile, disgusting media and displays the peril affecting our country.

Yep. Seatbelts, lightbulbs, water tanks on toilets, the type of gas we use in our cars, paying for everyone illegal coming across the border, a background check to buy a gun ... we have a lot of freedom.

This is not a new position at the NY Times. I just want to echo poster #7 who makes a good point. "The New York Times cheered Stalin and constantly reported that this was the way to the future. Their top journalist, Walter Duranty (1884-1957), was their man in Moscow. The New York Times promoted him to be awarded the Pulitzer Prize for that reporting." It took until 1990 for the NY Times to admit that there was a famine in the Ukraine. Other reporters who attempted to report this information were fired. The NY Times propped up a tyrant and dictator fully as evil as Hitler.

RE: #10's "famine in Ukraine". That 'famine' was caused when Soviet troops went into the region and confiscated all the fall grain harvest, intentionally leaving the kulaks without food for the coming winter. The intent was to starve them to death. And after they were dead, Russians were moved into the region to replace the troublesome Ukrainians. The kulaks were successful farmers and refused to collectivize their farms under Soviet doctrine. So they were eliminated and replaced. And, many decades later, Putin used the large number of 'ethnic Russians' (gee, I wonder how that happened?) in eastern Ukraine as a reason to issue Russian passports to people in another country. And then, with "Russians trapped in Ukraine", (they have to be Russians, they have Russian passports) Putin sent in his 'little green men' in to take over eastern Ukraine. No country of origin badges on these Russian soldiers who invaded and conquered eastern Ukraine. And, it all traces back to Stalin intentionally starving the kulaks in the 1930s. It was a famine alright, but totally caused with a political intent, no accident of nature or weather.

The sage advice that “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” is older than Joe Biden, but apparently he never heard of it. Or doesn’t think much of it. The president is on a tear, as in tearing up arrangements that were achieving their objectives. His early results are disastrous. In an act of astonishing foolishness, Biden created a humanitarian and public safety crisis on our southern border by dismantling a successful policy structure that took years to achieve. In the Mideast, he looks determined to undo the Arab-Israeli alliance Donald Trump forged by returning to the failed policies Biden helped to implement in the Obama-Biden administration.

I leave it to you to decide why, from the Trayvon Martin case to the George Floyd case, the media has so consistently misrepresented the facts. Whether it is that unskilled reporters are covering these matters, or that the press is simply looking to attract consumers with florid tales, or that the media looks forward to destroying urban areas with false tales of murderous white racists (amid a shortage of real ones), I cannot say. (Snip) It occurred to me then that if people like these could be sold the false narrative, officer Derek Chauvin was surely in for a judicial lynching.

Test results that will be shared at Wednesday’s State Board of Education meeting show that the majority of high school students did not pass state end-of-course exams given in the fall. The passing rates are also sharply lower on most of those exams than the prior fall, but the state Department of Public Instruction is cautioning against comparing the results.
