As a kid back in the early 1970s, when excessive fighting almost ruined the National Hockey League, there was a running joke that went something like this: “The other night I went to a fight, and a hockey game broke out!”
Today, it seems like that joke could be re-written: “The other night, I went to a protest, and a basketball game broke out!”
Political activists in sports are not a new phenomenon. Baseball legend Jackie Robinson was willingly thrust into it by breaking the color barrier in the Major Leagues in 1947. Robinson endured indignities, which included not being able to stay in the same hotels

The Olympics are dead to me. I have tolerated them in the past when they decided to expand them to professionals instead of only amateurs, but now that we have decided to send communist scum to represent America, I am done.
I hope that Team CPUSA doesn't win a single medal in the entire games.

I used to love watching the olympics, especially the winter ones. Have not watched in years and won't this time either. It's sad what has happened to a once wonderful event.

I stopped watching when I saw clenched black fists on a podium, many years ago. I saw highlights of the great hockey win, on a separate video, and didn't have to endure any of the foolishness. I guess I'm just not 'woke' enough to take political rants with my sports.

The Left ruins everything it touches.
First, there was Katie Couric who introduced the "let's talk about your dead [insert name of relative here]" style of Olympic reporting.
Then the networks got cocky. They were already telling American's who would win elections, so they thought they could tell Americans who would win sports events. That started the era of endless B-roll footage for predestined winners. Unfortunately for the nets, many lost. But that won't stop them. They'll keep trying to control the future by reporting on it ahead of time.
Now, we enter the "I Hate America" era of sports coverage. It doesn't help that we got to watch unabashed patriotism this weekend from the Brits and the Italians. Even the Italians, allies of Hitler in The Big One, were happy to cheer their Country. But we Americans will be forced to apologize because we look like Klansmen Democrats who have since seized control of the national government.

I have canceled the olympics. I will not be watching. They don't like this country. I don't like them. Why should I watch someone I don't like?

The only "interest" I have in the Olympics is hoping that the U.S. Women's Soccer Team gets its butt kicked.

I used to love watching the Olympics when ABC was broadcasting them. When NBC won the broadcasting rights things started downhill and it has become worse with every broadcast. I may watch the opening ceremonies to enjoy the beauty of Japan but after that? Phooey.

Since the athletes won't be performing in front of live spectators--banned because of COVID--the wokeness won't be receiving any ovations. Of course, neither will great performances in various events. The world is far from back to normal, Same as OP, I will be watching, and hoping not to see anything to cause me to snap the television off in rage.
Since early 2020 track and field fans have seen several new world records set in the pole vault, the shot put, and 400m Intermediate hurdles (maybe more events). I want to see if the 2021 athletes can perhaps break a few more. That doesn't happen very often. I just hope a few politicized malcontents don't ruin it for everyone.

I so want to "Believe in Miracles" again, when young, gritty, dream-filled American amateurs put every molecule in their bodies into winning for Team USA. Those days are over. I'll watch Herb and the Boys again, instead.

I cooled on the Olympics years ago. The coverage is too fragmented - you get interested in one sport, then they switch to another one, and you have to wait hours for the return to the one you really want to see. They hold off on the interesting sports for hours until late in prime time. After a while, I started switching away or wandering off during the less interesting stuff. More often than not, I didn't go back.

Won't be watching a single minute. The entitled, woke, in-it-for-themselves athletes have ruined it for everyone. I get enough of that mess on the nightly news. Buh-bye, Olympics. The whole point was "USA"--and you missed it by a mile.

Remember when the Opening Ceremony for the London Olympics had a tribute to England’s socialized medicine, NHS, with choreographed dancing beds? Should’da known that more political-social propaganda was coming.

We've stopped watching all professional sports. And with the nonstop wokeism going on with the Olympic athletes, we probably won't watch those either.

Japan is not allowing audiences at the events. If TV ratings flop, there will be no income to offset the cost of hosting the Games.

There are some Aussies and other champions we follow in the equestrian events.
However, they may not be shown until 4am, if at all.
Surely there would be less wokeness , in the dead of night?
