Global energy usage shrank significantly during the pandemic lockdowns and remained comparatively low during the winter. But now that the United States is reopening, along with much of the rest of the world, energy demand is spiking at unprecedented levels. In order to meet the increasing need, many countries, including America, are turning to a much-vilified but very reliable source. Coal-fired power plants are driving up the need for more coal. This trend flies in the face of all of the promises and treaties that have been in vogue of late, with countries promising to reduce their “carbon footprints” and go to renewable, green energy technologies.
This is a nice pipe dream, but coal isn't coming back. Plants have been mothballed or outright abandoned all over the country. This is my former industry, and I was driven out of it by the Obama administration war on coal power generation. Once a plant is removed from production for more than a very short time (less than a year at best), it is never coming back. In particular, unless steps are taken to protect the turbine by keeping it under constant slow rotation, the bearing surfaces flat spot under the weight, and are destroyed.
If coal demand is increasing, it is because it is being exported to developing nations. The democraps destroyed coal generation in America, and are now working to do the same with NG and nuclear.

There are three coal mines walking distance from my house. Two have been abandoned since the Mulatto Marxist started his war on coal. My town and all the surrounding ones have died. About a year ago I started seeing activity around one of them. They are pouring massive amounts of money into it but I havent seen a single lump leave yet. I miss the trains and look forward to seeing them again.

The correct headline should be "take the your green new deal and shove it, AOC", or something like that.

Marxists fear mobility of the common citizens.
So produce electric cars with out sufficient electricity.
Simple.
Serfs need to stay put, dammit.

It would help if we could paint the coal and the trucks that deliver it ,bright green. Ask the operators of your local landfill.

"Green" energy killed a lot of Texans during the great freeze and it's unforgivable. We are the land of NatGas and ALL our power plants SHOULD be fired by such, and if not by that then by coal. Of course there should also be 10 new Nuclear Plants built by 2030 also to provide energy well into the future.

Much of the coal mined in this country for the last thirty years has gone to China. China doesn't mind polluting it's land, water or air.

Voodoo energy can never meet the needs of the baseload. The sun stops shining, the wind stops blowing.

And yesterday, we heard that the 'Man of Dementia' wants to end $90 billion in subsidies to energy companies. Why doesn't the idiot POS cancel the subsidies from some of the important industries like the NRA, NBA, the motion picture industries or the LSM? Energy is literally what keeps this country running.

Last I heard, we had enough coal for eight centuries of power at current rates of consumption.
That coal is going nowhere, and will be patiently waiting after this latest batch of insane leftist fraud and corruption passes, whether that takes 10 years or a century. Coal is a REAL power source, wind, solar, etc are just scams, uneconomic and unreliable. Nothing will change the unreliability and extreme expense of these scams, in the same way that nothing will change the fundamental reliability of coal.
Use it now, or use it later. Coal is a REAL power source.
