One year after California introduced a first-of-its-kind $20 minimum wage for fast-food workers, an increase of up to 70 cents is slated for a vote. California's Fast Food Council, comprised of fast-food workers, restaurant owners and state officials, approved a motion Wednesday to consider a cost-of-living-adjustment at an upcoming meeting. (Snip) Workers and labor advocates said the increase was needed to address rising costs of living in one of the country's most expensive states to live. Veronica Gonzales, a fast-food worker, spoke remotely from a room full of workers organized under the California Fast Food Workers Union’s San Jose chapter.

Comments:

Workers still complaining it's not enough. Why not demand $30/hour to flip burgers?

Looks like the fast food restaurants will be leaving California right behind the insurance companies. Forcing businesses to lose money is not a viable long term plan for keeping them in your state.

It's almost a law of nature. Every time the minimum wage goes up, unemployment also goes up. And fast food is not a career. It's a starter job for young people, and income supplement for people who didn't plan their retirement well.

ST. PAUL, Minn. — Minnesota Gov. Progressives are struggling with recruitment, morale and fundraising as they seek a path forward heading into next year’s midterm elections. While some on the left, such as Justice Democrats, have called for primary challenges to moderate Democrats in 2026, many progressives acknowledge the hurdles and lack of attention they face. Despite a couple of names floated, like former Rep. Cori Bush (D-Mo.) who is believed to be considering another House bid, liberals are more disorganized about their potential challenger roster. They’re also contending with waning donor enthusiasm. All together, these predicaments paint a picture of a left wing in trouble

One Democrat, though, Rep. Marcy Katpur of Ohio, had a particularly ugly moment using Musk's immigration status as a means to question his "loyalty."
