Big, Beautiful Budget Resolution Passes
US Senate

Early Friday, the United States Senate passed a budget resolution tailored in large part to President Donald Trump's initial agenda. The vote was almost entirely along party lines, with Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) being the lone GOP holdout: The Democrat proposals, let's be honest, were delaying tactics; they had essentially zero chance of inclusion in the GOP-controlled Senate. The budget resolution clears the path for $340 billion in spending--$175 billion is marked for border and immigration enforcement, while $150 billion would go to Pete Hegseth's Department of Defense.

Nothing in this big beautiful budget resolution addresses the $2T annual deficit. Certainly big, not beautiful, as it is a piecemeal measure, one that you would expect from a Linsey Graham, who is a loser, and should never have been put in charge of any committee.

I'll refrain from calling it good until this dirty diaper is opened up and inspected by others. I am NOT assuming it is "big and beautiful' just because the Senate says it is. I expect that there are more than a few REAL STINKERS in there which must be removed.

The CR is why we have so much waste, fraud, and abuse. They say they're doing this last CR because of whatever terrible, so we can get away with it crap they set up in place of an annual budget. Which is also exactly what got US into this mess of debt, no accountability. The Pub congress and senate should have been working on a real budget since the election, at least, but they think we're playing with them. Billions of dollars cut with a 36 trillion dollar deficit is peanuts. They're not serious, and PDT's support is making them feel comfortable as all get out. As long as everybody stays quiet about what the Pubs have been doing to US and focuses only on dem theft, we won't get any real results from the Pubs. They think we believe it's only the dems. That this resolution was lauded by Lindsey Graham tells you all you need to know. "Republicans overwhelmingly voted to turn away or reject the proposals. But Democrats were able to peel off one or two GOP defections as some Republicans bucked their party on a few proposals, including measures aimed at preventing healthcare cuts and reinstating federal workers affected by mass layoffs."

General Dan Caine — the newly nominated chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff — got tapped for his new position after becoming a favorite of President Donald Trump during a meeting with him in Iraq in 2018. Since that warzone meeting, Trump has repeatedly praised Caine, who served as the deputy commander of the special operations task force, which was then fighting the Islamic State. Trump called the three-star general “instrumental” in the “complete annihilation of the ISIS caliphate” in a Truth Social post Friday — harping on Caine’s reputation as a “warfighter.” Caine’s successful stint in Iraq, which lasted from 2018-2019, made a strong impression on the president,

Reading these headlines from The Wall Street Journal, "Trump’s Attack on Zelensky Signals New World Order Taking Shape," and MSNBC, "Trump and his MAGA subordinates are ushering in a new world order," you are supposed to believe Trump is destroying the world — again. The latest iteration of Trump’s transgressions is prompted by his administration’s direct negotiations with the Russians to end the war in Ukraine. Contrary to the foreign policy blob, ending the war in Ukraine would be a crucial step toward restoring global stability and would better position the United States to address the primary challenge to international order — China — which directly impacts U.S. interests.

Federal Judge Dale Ho threw yet another spanner into this year’s mayoral race Friday by kicking the can on whether he’ll force a trial of Mayor Eric Adams even though the feds want to drop the charges. More, he named powerhouse attorney Paul Clement to make the case for going ahead — and gave him ’til March 4 to file his brief, with a followup hearing March 14. The trial had been scheduled to start April 21, and so finish in time for the June 14 start of early voting in the June 24 Democratic primary — but if Clement convinces Ho the case should go ahead,

The Social Security Administration’s acting commissioner reportedly resigned over the weekend after a dispute with the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) over the Elon Musk-headed group’s efforts to access sensitive government records. Michelle King, a career federal worker who had been with SSA since 1994, quit over the DOGE disagreement Saturday and was replaced by Leland Dudek, the Washington Post reported on Monday. Dudek, who has been supportive of DOGE’s efforts to root out waste, fraud and abuse in the federal government, will serve as acting commissioner of SSA until President Trump’s pick to lead the agency, Frank Bisignano, is confirmed by the Senate, according to the outlet.

Mayor Eric Adams bizarrely invoked “Mein Kampf” at a Brooklyn church rally Monday afternoon as he defiantly blasted rivals calling for him to step down — as chaos swirled around the administration. Adams — who delivered the speech to a group of about 50 supporters at the Rehoboth Cathedral on MacDougal Street — also took a vicious dig at public advocate and potential successor Jumaane Williams, who would take over as mayor if the embattled, indicted Adams abdicated his office. “I still don’t know what he does, because it’s hard to really serve the city when you wake up at noon,” Hizzoner said of Williams.

In the 1960s when my husband and I first worked in Washington, D.C., according to the Office of Personnel Management, there were about 1,808,000 (which includes military; non-Department of Defense was 761,000) federal employees. At the start of President Trump’s second term there were 2.3 million, of which about 775,000 were military and Department of Defense employees. This astonishing bloat in the federal bureaucracy is even more inexplicable when you consider that in this same period so many of the jobs being performed by these people have been made strikingly more efficient with the creation and improvement of computers and the internet, requiring fewer personnel to accomplish more.

The fun just never ends here in these early days of the Trump 47 era, does it? President Trump has surrounded himself with some remarkable people in this administration, which is in stark contrast to what happened back in 2017. I know that a lot of people like to blame all of the chaos of his first administration on external factors that were beyond his control, but that's a real stretch. He made some absolutely garbage personnel choices his first time around. It was understandable too — the difference between the upper echelon of the private sector business world and politics is a big one.

In the brief time when Elon Musk and his Department of Government Efficiency team had access to the Treasury Department’s payment system, they discovered that the government’s bookkeeping is so sloppy they can’t say where checks are going or why. That the government sends money to people on “do not pay” lists. And that some $100 billion worth of entitlement money goes to people with no Social Security number or temporary ID. “This is utterly insane and must be addressed immediately,” Musk posted on X after a federal judge blocked his access to the system. Musk is right about this being insane.

Wisconsin Gov. The Evers administration's budget recommendation for the 2025-2027 fiscal period advises several other gendered terms be changed, as well. References to "wife" or "husband" are changed to "spouse" in the proposal. In other places, the word "father" is changed to "parent," and "mother" is swapped out for the phrase "parent who gave birth to the child.”

There are varying opinions on party lines, as over three-fourths of Democrats — 77 percent, oppose the executive order recognizing biological truth. Only 14 percent of Democrats support the order.
