On Monday, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced his intention to resign after the Liberal Party selects a new leader, marking the conclusion of a turbulent tenure at the helm of Canada. “My friends, as you all know, I’m a fighter. Every bone in my body has always told me to fight because I care deeply about Canadians. I care deeply about this country,” he said Monday morning. “And I will always be motivated by what is in the best interest of Canadians. And the fact is, despite best efforts to work through it, Parliament has been paralyzed for months...

Comments:

But not so fast, folks. Margolis' story headline is a bit misleading. Carefully re-read the first sentence of the article - "...his intention to resign...". Trudie is still PM. Since Canada's Parliament is not currently in session, there will be no new Prime Minister for a while. Trudie remains PM for now until he actually does resign and is replaced. This might happen sometime in the months ahead.

Re #5....no, Canadians have no real Constitutional rights, since they have no Constitution. These damned parlimentary systems like Britain and Australia can make ANYTHING illegal, and you have no recourse. Your rights are exactly what the parliment says they are. NO 'rule book', or Constitution. Now if you look they SAY that they have various LAWS, written and unwritten (UNWRITTEN RIGHTS?) which are their "constitution" (Charter of Freedoms and Rights).....only they are really just laws, and can be changed as needed. It used to be that only the British Parliament could change the Canadian 'constitution', but since 1982......apparently the Canadian Parliament has that right. OOPS. This is precisely why the USA of a fought a major war to be freed from these thuggish 'Parlimentary democracies' where two wolves and a lamb can vote on what's for dinner. No free speech. No freedoms at all that the "leaders" don't let you have --- today. Whatever your freedoms might be this month, they could be taken away next month. Because their "constitution" is just a law, and can be overwritten with another law. Our Constitution requires a 2/3 vote in both houses of Congress and then a majority vote in the legislatures of 3/4 of all states. That would be 37.5 states....so I assume you'd have to get 38 to meet the requirement. No First Amendment right to free speech or free religion. No Second Amendment right to own arms. No.....Bill of Rights at all. Lose a "right"? No recourse in courts....there is no unchanging Constitution, only a Charter which Parliament can change as needed. They proudly point to their Charter of Rights and Freedoms but, basically, this is easily modified, although not quite as easily as prior to 1982, since much of it wasn't even written down before then (ha!). Still, nothing at all like the intentionally VERY difficult process of changing our Constitution. As near as I can tell, their Charter of Rights and Freedom is just another law which can be changed as desired by Parliament.

Announced his resignation. Or did he? I have the feeling that left wing parties in Canada won't agree on a suitable replacement and Trudy will have to stick around. He announced his potential retirement - he didn't sign anything.

Excellent response, #6. We are fortunate that the people who wrote our Constitution and Bill of Rights were good, decent, honest men who understood human nature quite well, not like much of the trash that infests Washington today. This country would have gone through another revolution by now.

I believe that the British based parliamentary system was devised hundreds of years before the US Constitution was written and put in place. Chances are that the people of Canada will abandon their governmental customs and traditions and vote to become the 51st State of the USA are pretty much nil. No doubt Trump knows that, and has been putting out such comments relating to Canada are being made to get Canada’s attention, including the fact that Trudeau’s ultra liberal immigration law and rules have been used to make Canada essentially a way station for foreign migrants from all over the world until they arrange to be smuggled across, or otherwise cross the Canada-USA undefended border, and unlawfully gain entry to the USA.

As Barack Obama slowly fades from the landscape, let’s consider how he has helped to destroy Western civilization, especially the United States of America. He did this via his fealty to Iran, which allowed unchecked, deadly drug trafficking into America while giving Iran the time, space, and funds to develop its nuclear weapons. The Obama Administration killed hundreds of thousands of Americans by allowing the Iran-founded and funded terrorist organization Hezbollah to operate in the Western Hemisphere, where it built a narco-terror network that shipped illegal drugs into this country. The Middle Eastern threat is now below our southern border, something obvious as far back as 2011

After the Trump assassination attempt at Butler, I’m having an unexpected crisis of faith. What’s unusual is...I’m an atheist. Not just an atheist, but you know, the insufferable kind, the kind that insists on being sworn in without that “so help me God” nonsense. From a young age, I wanted things to make sense with reason my guiding principle. The idea of an all-powerful, all-knowing being whose address—Heaven—doesn’t even come up on Google Maps seemed more preposterous than Santa. At least we knew we could find Santa at the North Pole.

I would argue that, aside from 1860, 1984 was the most important election in American history. Ronald Reagan was running against Jimmy Carter’s vice president, Walter Mondale. At the end of the Carter administration, America was beleaguered, both emotionally and economically. When Reagan took office, the Iranian Hostage countdown had Americans glued to their television sets, and the combination of double-digit inflation and interest rates would knock them for a loop through the first couple of Reagan’s years. But then Reagan’s policies began to kick in.

Every day, more information comes out arguing against the government narrative that a “lone wolf” attack lies behind the assassination attempt against President Donald Trump. The Biden Administration’s feeble attempts through surrogates to deflect and deny have become standard and boring. The variations are endless but the content is the same [snip] Shortly after the shooting, a video surfaced showing a Canadian sniper unhesitatingly saying that the assassin did not act alone. Former Secret Service Agent Christopher McClenic said it’s “impossible” that Trump’s security detail wouldn’t have noticed the rooftop from which the gunman fired.

A plot to steal the 2024 election from President Trump is well underway, and not just by suppressing information online or dragging Trump through the court system. Those are instances of throwing anything and everything at the wall hoping something sticks, but not the master plan. The real plots have a much more direct impact on the election results rather than just swaying voter perception. We know this because those behind these plots are openly revealing them. A recent joint CISA and FBI press release warned of potential “attacks on election infrastructure that support election operations, which could hinder public access to election information.”

The problem with many liberals is they can’t live in their own truth. They abandon ship as soon as it becomes inconvenient to maintain their current persona. The most obvious and telling recent examples come from the Democrat Presidential candidate-by-fiat, Kamala Harris. For the last three and a half years, she was ‘The Border Czar.’ But once the Nancy Pelosi-Barack Obama-Chuckie Schumer coup d’etat had been executed and Kamala Harris had been installed as the de facto Democrat Presidential nominee, her Border Czar title became a major political liability.

I’ll preface my commentary with the obvious: All of the “mostly peaceful” protests by our “college educated” on campuses nationwide that are clearly pro-Hamas and aimed at Jewish students are wrong, illegal, and all involved should either go back to the classes their parents and taxpayers are funding or be arrested and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. But why the sudden sanctimonious outrage from the media and pundit class, billionaire donors, business leaders, and politicians? Why are the harassment and threats against Jewish students a red line that’s been crossed and now found to be totally unacceptable? It’s only because the current violence hits too close to home.

The America that I knew regularly performed miracles. We put men on the moon, dug the Panama Canal, invented the atomic bomb, and created the transistor. There was no limit to what we could do. Nothing seemed impossible. Fifty years ago, the seeds of our destruction were planted with the beginning of the social justice movement, the anti-war movement, identity politics, and alternatives promoted as equal to or superior to intact nuclear families. We were told, “Do your thing,” without regard for society’s needs. A new version of communism stormed our shores, led by teachers’ unions, free love, and blaming whites for every wrong imaginable.

From Europe to India, farmers have taken to the streets in recent months to protest agricultural policies. First, demonstrations erupted across Europe, with farmers forming blockades, dumping manure in cities, and egging government buildings. Now, thousands of farmers have marched toward New Delhi in scenes that recall the mass protests of 2020-21. Although the reasons for agricultural workers’ discontent differ from country to country, the ongoing unrest comes as the world’s farmers are “increasingly feeling under political attack,” [snip]. This edition of Flash Points considers the root causes of the farmers’ protests, what unites them, and how climate and trade policy are transforming global agriculture.
