It is not surprising that there was a surge of punditry opinions arguing that Kamala Harris won the September 10 debate with Donald Trump. [Snip] Many conservative analysts have joined in and agreed that Trump lost the debate. From the standpoint of debate practice, Trump performed one of his most successful debates and arguably won the debate. [Snip] The debate format is unusual because each candidate had an option to make a one-minute rebuttal at any point during the debate. Trump used this option masterfully to have the last word on most of the major controversies in the debate.

Not having watched the debate. cannot verify an observation posted at a conservative social media website made by an astute MAGA supporter calling attention to David Muir’s “first question and statement to Kamala Harris” as follows: “Vice President Harris, you AND PRESIDENT TRUMP WERE ELECTED FOUR YEARS AGO and your opponent on the stage here...”
The MAGA supporter is pointing out that “David Muir stated that Trump was elected in 2020” and suggests people “rewind the tape and listen for yourselves. David spoke the truth!”
In response to those criticizing President Trump for “taking the bait” and responding to political taunts, it has been suggested wise to consider Proverbs 26:5 “Answer a fool according to his folly, lest he be wise in his own eyes.”

Moreover, Americans despise rigged competitions. This is a terrible look for Harris.

Harris won on the optics-- a smiling Harris and a scowling Trump. The lefty media is portraying that Harris won, but she didn't pick up any ground. On the other hand, the conservative voices are saying that Trump won except for Karl "The Architect" Rove, who called the debate a disaster for Trump, but Trump was the one who picked up a point or two. Who won this particular debate is irrelevant Believe who you want and keep the faith.

After having digested that kabuki theatre production by ABC it turns out the 1 )both Muir and Davis were WRONG when they fact-checked Trump on Haitians killing dogs & cats and that babies unsuccessfully aborted in Minnesota born alive are allowed to die (my poor heart), 2) they allowd Scamala to lie over and over w/o fact checking her once, and 3) very likely Scamala wore a wireless earpiece disguised as earrings. Is it too much to hope that maybe Muir & Davis will apologize to the US people and Trump for their blatant partisanship? I would settle for dressing them in cheerleader outfits with KAMALA! emblazoned on them. Can't the Democrats do ANYTHING w/o cheating?

Thank you, OP, for this excellent post. I hope everyone here reads it, and shares it everywhere.
This is a masterful analysis by someone who actually knows what he is talking about, and not a knee-jerk reaction based on emotion. It is the best I’ve read.

Trump is competent but not slick. Harris is slick but incompetent. Which do you prefer?

"Many commentators are distracted by the facial expressions made by Harris. From a debate standpoint, looking at your opponent and making mocking interpersonal gestures with your face is childish and weak. Focusing on the camera and the audience that is adjudicating the debate is the best rhetorical option."
WRONG. This may be true for live debates with a real audience. Still, for cooler, intimate TV, this can visually interrupt your opponent and redirect the audience's emotions away from their words. Harris no doubt was coached and rehearsed this tactic. Don't believe me. Here's a quote from Stephen King on X.
"Kamala Harris's face kept saying, "Go ahead, Donald, have your tantrum, and then the adults will speak." He got more time than she did...but she didn't need more time. Her face said it all."

Presidential debates do not have winners or losers. This isn’t high school. It all depends on personal beliefs and political ideology. Anyone still ‘undecided’ at this point is a fool who shouldn’t vote. Yes, Trump took the bait from Harris’s coached goading, and he did meander a bit making his points. Harris used 10000 words to say exactly nothing. No one’s mind was changed.
