This is because American schools are choosing to emphasize social justice and progressive talking points instead. The College Fix reports: College students lack ‘rudimentary’ knowledge of history, civics: survey – [Snip] ...a civic literacy assessment recently conducted by the American Council of Trustees and Alumni. [Snip] Historian and Hillsdale College Professor Wilfred McClay told The Fix in a recent email he was both “appalled and saddened” by another finding from the survey that found 57 percent of students would flee the country rather than stay and fight in the case of an invasion. “This reflects a social malady, a sickness of the soul, that runs deeper

By design. I graduated from high school in 1981 and college in 1985. Even then no time was spent on civics beyond the basic branches of government.

Even the "best" "top" universities in the US have become little more than indoctrination centers for socialism, communism and hatred for our country. "Graduates" emerge credentialed but ignorant as the day they sat in freshman orientation. (Looking at you, barmaid Cortez).

Almost all "educational institutions" in the United States are nothing more than mills for turning out highly credentialed, leftist robots. Of course, these robots don't think they are robots, they believe they are "the best and the brightest". When confronted with the realization that everything they paid hundreds of thousands of dollars to "learn" was gold-plated bullshiite, they sink into deep denial; unable to admit they were duped and their gender-queer-racial-trans-degenerate "degree" is useful for little more than wiping their backside. Nobody will hire them.
Such is life. We all have our misfortunes.

Anyone ever spoken to anyone under the age of 55? Dumber than a box of rocks on our Constitution. It goes further back than that, but not quite as widespread.
Yeah, Jimmuh Carter's DOE did it's work well, huh?

This is nothing new. Years ago I had a young (25 or so) lady in my office who saw my Sons of Confederate Veterans plaque and asked if I had fought in that war. This in a small town that Sherman came through and occupied on his marching through Georgia campaign and General Joseph E. Johnston's headquarters prior to that. Plenty of Civil War history all around us. I doubt that she knew the dates of WWII or any of our wars for that matter. Those who cannot remember history etc etc. Sad. It's how we got all those lofo voters who cannot make a common sense vote if their lives depend on it.

You don't need a survey to know that. Just listen to them when they are demonstrating or answering questions on the street. Zero clue about anything and a serious inability to think critically. Sheep, being led by their radical professors

Glenn Beck had a popular show feature (called "Moron Trivia", I think) that exposed the ubiquity of ignorance on those subjects across whole swaths of society. No reason, under the present public education system, to expect that it has improved at all since then.

Yep!
The Leftist Filth infiltrated and took over the education system a long time ago.
It seems to me that a large percentage of younger people know nothing of history other than the Leftist 'Civil Rights' topics, and nothing before 1968.
But they know all about Rap and they know the words to the best-selling rap 'WAP' of a couple of years ago. (not printable in public).
The Deliberate destruction of education and valuation of decency, respect, history, and Truth..... all to advance The Cause.

I spent 18 years doing what I now teach as a college professor. About 4 years ago I had a smart student (GPA about 3.75) to whom it came as a surprise that the U.S. had nuked Japan in WWII. College algebra - made an A. U.S. and World History, A in both. Didn't know how WWII ended. The fault is not with the students, it is with the idiot savants teaching these students. And not just at the college level - This wasn't covered in high school (or even elementary) history???

Exactly, those topics have been replaced with gender identity and critical race theory. Neither of which have any use at all but get people confused as to who they are. God help us.

An article published by Breitbart covering President Trump’s plans to “Save American Education from Radical-Left Maniacs” (Nick Gilbertson – 1-27-23) quotes President Trump as saying “we” will create “a new credentialing body that will be the gold standard anywhere in the world to certify teachers who embrace patriotic values, support our way of life, and understand that their job is not to indoctrinate children, but very simply to educate them” putting parents back in charge giving them the final say. The plan would include cutting funding to schools and programs that push radical left-wing ideologies.
