Six months ago, Donald Trump presented us all with a Rorschach test by predicting a “bloodbath” if he loses the 2024 election. “Now, if I don’t get elected, it’s going to be a bloodbath for the whole — that’s going to be the least of it,” Trump said while discussing the economy and his tariff plan. “It’s going to be a bloodbath for the country.” Those on the left largely took Trump literally, citing how his supporters have risen up violently before, on Jan. 6, 2021. Those on the right argued that Trump was just speaking figuratively. The latter said he was talking about a metaphorical bloodbath.

When considering how a given political claim is likely to fare once it has traveled outside of the bubble in which it originated, my go-to yardstick is to imagine the reception that it would receive in an average American bar. Given recent events, I have grown tempted to shift the setting of this admirably dependable test elsewhere — say, to the lunchroom of a high-security lunatic asylum.

You know insurrection is a crime, right?
Just to recap, under Section 2383 of the federal criminal code, a person is guilty of a felony, punishable by up to ten years’ imprisonment, if he
incites, sets on foot, assists, or engages in any rebellion or insurrection against the authority of the United States or the laws thereof, or gives aid or comfort thereto.
And why do we need a refresher on this? Because the Department of Justice has been investigating Donald Trump and the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot for nearly three years, yet no insurrection charges have ever been brought against Trump or anyone else.
We are told climate change is a crisis, and that there is an "overwhelming scientific consensus." "It's a manufactured consensus," says climate scientist Judith Curry in my new video. She says scientists have an incentive to exaggerate risk to pursue "fame and fortune." She knows about that because she once spread alarm about climate change.
Some ideas are so terrible that combining them into a cocktail of awfulness makes rotten sense. So it is with gun control and qualified immunity: Why not mix impunity for violating basic rights with denial of a specific right so as to maximize the harm? At least, that's the inspiration that struck two law professors who propose qualified immunity for enforcing even overtly unconstitutional gun control measures. While the duo sees the idea as much as a means of weakening officials' protections from liability as for promoting restrictions on private arms, it's a dangerous innovation that could entrench authoritarianism.

In particular, Rutgers University researchers say, gun ownership is something many Americans decline to reveal when questioned by people they don't know. That's especially true of women and minorities newly among the ranks of gun owners amidst the chaos of recent years. Academics are unhappy that privacy-minded respondents impair their understanding of the world we live in, but such evasion is an inevitable consequence of decades of fiery debate and punitive gun policies.
Irked by Congress' failure to enact the gun control laws he favors, California Gov. Gavin Newsom is proposing a "28th Amendment" that would "permanently enshrine" those policies in the U.S. Constitution. This transparently partisan publicity stunt is wholly impractical and raises more questions than it answers. But Newsom's pitch for it nicely illustrates the dishonesty, emotionalism, divisive rhetoric, illogic, and magical thinking of politicians who promise that their half-baked gun control schemes will rescue America from fear of deadly violence.
Since the New York indictment of Donald Trump was unsealed last week, critics across the political spectrum have noted the legal problems with transforming one hush payment into 34 felonies. But in assessing the seriousness of this case, it is also relevant to ask who was injured by the former president's actions, a question that poses more of a puzzle than Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg suggests.

Donald Trump got to Kamala Harris’ core problem in his debate close, waving off all her promises about what she’d do in office: “Why hasn’t she done it already?”
Hard to think of a better riposte to her “We won’t go back” slogan — which aims to appeal to Americans’ desperate desire for change from the Biden policies she shares.
Harris had a pretty smooth night: She did her homework for once, including prepping lines guaranteed to get under Trump’s skin — some of which plainly did put him off-balance.

I guess it was a foregone conclusion that the ABC debate was going to be a mess, but people were yelling about the moderators not being fair from the jump. It's pretty clear why Vice President Kamala Harris only wanted to do a debate with ABC, given the bias they showed.
Trump had his moments, and I wrote about one earlier. But while the moderators were all over former President Donald Trump, Harris was lying her head off without being checked the whole debate. If I wrote about all the lies, I'd still be going into tomorrow, so I'll stick to some of the highlights.

A CNN flash poll conducted on Tuesday showed that Vice President Kamala Harris beat former President Donald Trump in the first presidential debate, 63 to 37 percent.
Going into the debate on Tuesday night, the 605 registered U.S. voters polled by CNN said they were split 50/50 on who would perform well. Following the debate, 63 percent said Harris won while the former president stood at 37 percent. Per CNN:

WASHINGTON - Body camera footage released by D.C. police Monday shows the moment officers shot and killed Justin Robinson, a Violence Interrupter for the city, during an incident at a Southeast McDonald’s last week.
The footage was made public following community pressure for its release. While a statement from the Mayor’s Office initially indicated that Robinson’s next of kin did not want it shown, the family reversed their decision over the weekend.

Kamala Harris and Donald Trump finally faced off in what will likely be their only debate, and it went more or less as expected. While this debate probably won’t change the overall trajectory of the race in a major way, it did have its key moments—and not all of them went in Trump’s favor. Springfield, Ohio, has been in the news because it’s emerged that some of the 20,000 Haitian immigrants dumped on that small town in the last three years have been dining on people’s pets. That scrutiny reminded people that a Haitian immigrant driving illegally killed an 11-year-old Springfield boy. Now, the boy’s father has lashed out—at Republicans.

Yes, conservatives, on Tuesday night, ABC moderators David Muir and Linsey Davis harassed The Donald, coddled Kamala, and broke their rule by opening her mic to interrupt.
But here’s the deal: Harris was ready and rarin’ with a better-designed strategy to make her case and get under that orange skin. From the opening handshake she initiated, she capitalized on the luck of the draw: not just the network, but also an opponent who stumbled, rambled, and ranted.
Kamala showed up flawlessly turned out – contrasting her CNN appearance – confident … and superbly prepped.
The Federalist obtained audio of a 911 call from a local resident reporting a group of Haitians carrying geese.
More than 20,000 Haitians are now living in Springfield, Ohio and the residents are fed up.
Springfield has a population of about 60,000 people and Haitians now make up 25% of the population.
The City of Springfield held a City Commission meeting last week and angry residents went off on them for doing nothing about the Haitians wreaking havoc on the community and draining resources.
