A group of university professors are circulating a petition and a statement among their colleagues to support the Republican ticket in the upcoming presidential election. The project is titled "Lesser Evil." These professors are not MAGA-hatted hardcore conservatives, but citing Adam Smith, they have reached the logical conclusion that fundamental freedoms will be better preserved under a Republican administration than a Democratic one. The project is the brainchild of Daniel Klein, a professor at George Mason University, and Daniel Mahoney, professor emeritus of political science at Assumption University. This week, the Harris campaign finally agreed to the debate rules after weeks of desperately trying to get them changed so they can be more favorable for her. Things haven't exactly been going well for her on this issue. As we've previously reported, Kamala's debate prep hasn't been going great, and things really went sideways for her when the campaign was forced to accept the debate rules.
You certainly know already that the key issue was whether there would be live microphones throughout the debate.
President Donald Trump was scheduled to be sentenced by New York Judge Juan Merchan on September 18, 2024, less than two months before the presidential election, after being charged with dozens of crimes by leftist District Attorney Alvin Bragg and found guilty by a jury in the heavily Democratic city earlier this year.
Merchan announced Friday he is delaying Trump's sentencing in the case until after the election and has set a new date of November 26, just two days before Thanksgiving. [Tweet]

An Alabama man entered a Florida hospital for a procedure to remove his spleen. On Aug. 21, medical records provided to USA Today by Zarzaur Law show that "Dr. Thomas Shaknovsky performed a hand-assisted laparoscopic splenectomy procedure on William “Bill” Bryan, 70, from Muscle Shoals, Alabama."
Bryan's widow claims that Shaknovsky mistakenly removed his liver instead of his spleen.
“Dr. Shaknovsky removed Mr. Bryan’s liver and, in so doing, transected the major vasculature supplying the liver, causing immediate and catastrophic blood loss resulting in death,” the statement from the law firm said. “The surgeon proceeded with labeling the removed liver specimen as a 'spleen,' and it wasn’t until following the death

The Secret Service’s Office of Equity Diversity and Inclusion sent out an agency-wide request for agents to attend an all-expense paid trip to an LGBTQ+ “Out and Equal” Workplace Summit at Disney World in Orlando October 7-10.
This comes as the Secret Service is spread thin and struggling to meet demands. Things are so bad that the US military is being called in to supplement Secret Service personnel.

The FBI's Atlanta Field Office has released some new details about the alleged shooter responsible for killing four and injuring several others at Apalachee High School on Wednesday.
Among the details was the fact that Colt Gray had been investigated previously for making online threats to commit a school shooting in 2023. [Tweet]
According to the agency's statement, in May 2023, the FBI investigated online threats and determined they came from Gray, though the then-13-year-old denied making them. Area schools were still put on alert and told to monitor him.

George Washington University law professor Jonathan Turley on Friday said that Judge Juan Merchan’s decision to delay former President Donald Trump’s sentencing could be an effort to avoid boosting his campaign.
Merchan had scheduled Trump’s sentencing for Sept. 18, but on Friday, he postponed the date to Nov. 26 “if necessary,” according to his order. Turley, on “America Reports,” claimed that Merchan’s rulings against Trump during his case were advantageous to his reelection bid, suggesting that maintaining the September sentencing date would have further intensified support for the former president.
