Tennessee School Expels 10-Year-Old for
Making a Finger Gun

Original Article

A Tennessee 10-year-old was expelled from school for a full year after he pointed his finger in the shape of a gun and made mock "machine gun" noises, according to a ProPublica investigation. The boy was expelled as part of a "zero tolerance" law in Tennessee that mandates any student who makes a threat of "mass violence" be expelled for at least one year. While the law, originally signed in 2023—following a shooting by a former student at a private school in Nashville—was recently amended to direct schools to expel students only for "valid" threats, the provisions of the law are still vague, and schools have considerable enforcement leeway.

Comments:

For all the good Tennessee has done, this make me ashamed for my state.

States and institutions adopt laws and rules like this so officials don't have to have good judgement or common sense. They can't figure out why people want to homeschool.

Since the law was amended to say "for valid threats", seems to me like the law would be okay except for the part where it depends on school officials to have any common sense. Those officials have completely purged themselves of common sense and have given their self-control over to the tyrant within themselves.

My neighbors left a lot to be desired. A married couple but each was having their sexual flings and loud fights. They had two boys several years apart. The older boy left school and decided joining a gang would be a smart idea. Selling drugs. He eventually was killed in a drug sell gone bad. His younger brother was in my computer class that I taught. I remember watching him make a gun finger and putting it on the temple of the student next to him. Said something about killing him dead just like his brother. It was unnerving. I did tell his class room teacher and let her take it from there. He was not expelled. He was obviously under a severe stress. His parents were no help. He was referred to our school psychologist for counseling to help him work through his feelings. He was only 8. What boy or girl doesn't make a gun and go bang bang. I mean, really. I grew up playing cowboys and Indians with my friends and none of us grew up to actually shoot each other. I have seen kids physically beat up another student and almost nothing is done. And if the victim fights back he ends up suspended too. Excuse the pun but too many schools are doing an overkill on these situations. I understand the rise of homeschooling but not everyone can implement that plan. Kids need to be in school. Pull the student aside and let him know that he simply can't do that at school.

That’ll teach him, won’t it? Heck, I had a cowgirl outfit and a cap gun when I was about 5 or 6 and I’ve never shot anyone. But that was 1950. This is stupid. I guess re-education camps are next.

Holding your hand as if it is a pistol supposedly conditions youth to shoot people with real guns.... But saturation in video games that have your character fragmenting human bodies for points doesn't condition them to act out violent urges.... Hard to expect the Left to have intellectual integrity, when so few of them have any apparent intellect to start with.

Did you catch Kamala Harris's first "interview" as the Democratic Party nominee for president? It was pretty much everything you'd expect from an interview conducted by CNN. Lots of softball questions, lots of word salad responses. CNN anchor Dana Bash actually asked some decent questions, but what really struck me about the interview was that Kamala Harris, more often than not, avoided answering most of the questions, and Bash didn't seem to be concerned with getting an actual answer. You knew things were going to be bad when Harris really struggled to give a coherent answer to the cliché question about what she would do on "on day one."

POTTERVILLE, Mich. — Former President Donald Trump said in an interview with NBC News on Thursday that if he is elected, his administration would not only protect access to in-vitro fertilization but would also have either the government or insurance companies cover the cost of the expensive service for American women who need it. "We are going to be, under the Trump administration, we are going to be paying for that treatment," Trump said before adding, "We're going to be mandating that the insurance company pay." Asked to clarify whether the government would pay for IVF services or whether insurance companies would do so, Trump reiterated that one option

Savannah, Ga.—Vice President Kamala Harris and her running mate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, will sit down Thursday for their first major television interview of their presidential campaign as the duo travels in southeast Georgia on a bus tour. The interview with CNN’s Dana Bash will give Harris a chance to quell criticism that she has eschewed uncontrolled environments, while also giving her a fresh platform to define her campaign and test her political mettle ahead of an upcoming debate with former President Donald Trump set for Sept. 10. But it also carries risk as her team tries to build on momentum from the ticket shakeup following Joe Biden’s exit

That is completely true and I'm one of those who has said it time and time again. We don't, nor should we. If we're required to show a need, then it's not a right in the first place. That was the core issue at the heart of the Bruen case, really. The state demanded someone show a need and the Supreme Court said you can't do that. That extrapolates out to things like AR-15s.
