Donald Trump is riding high after Democrats’ failure to utilize the Democratic National Convention (DNC) to springboard Vice President Kamala Harris’s struggling campaign.
The emboldened Republican nominee even stole President Barack Obama and Vice President Kamala Harris’s trademark one-word campaign slogans in laying out his American agenda and calling to arms the crowd to vote for him in November.
“Everyone will prosper, every family will thrive, and every day will be filled with joy and opportunity and hope, but for that to happen, we must defeat Kamala Harris,” Trump told the crowd near the end of his remarks.
“We must stop her country-destroying liberal agenda once and for all,”

Another attack on a music festival, this time in Germany. No one is using the T-word yet but some reports say this was a random attack using a knife. The attacker is still at large. This is a Google translated version of the story from Bild, the German news site which broke the news. They are reporting three people have died. Also a possible description which has not been confirmed by authorities:
At around 9.45 p.m. a man in Solingen randomly stabbed passers-by with a knife. The perpetrator, according to witnesses an Arab-looking man, is on the run.
According to initial information, there are three dead and four seriously injured. Dozens

Earlier, Ed wrote about the way in which the media seems to have gone all in on what could be described as the Empty Suit Campaign. Harris has said almost nothing specific about her plans and has given no interviews and yet most of the media seems thrilled to report this vacuous campaign as a triumph of good vibes. She's the change candidate. The joy candidate. And that's enough for most of them.
Today I noticed a couple of mildly critical pieces over at the NY Times. Here's one titled "Harris Faces Challenge of Translating Convention Joy to Fall Momentum."
Vice President Kamala Harris emerged

Last night, Kamala Harris repeatedly asserted that she would "chart a new course," or "chart a new way forward." For that, one would expect a chart or two.
Harris competently delivered a well-received but nearly substance-free acceptance speech at the Democratic National Convention. At 37 minutes, give or take, it ran long enough for the occasion without tiring the audience, in the hall or on television. And mirablile dictu, we never got the ubiquitous Harris incantation, "what we can be, unburdened by what has been."
Which in this case was rather ironic, since at least a third or more of Harris' speech was devoted to what has been -- her "personal story."

Thursday night, Kamala Harris took the stage in a blue pantsuit to accept her party's nomination for President of the United States. The excited audience kept chanting "Kamala" and "USA"; she thanked them and said, "We got to get to some business! Thank you all."
According to Politico, Vice President Kamala Harris planned to lean into her personal biography, and that is what she did. While mention was made of her father Donald Harris, it was her mother Shyamala Gopalan's "values" that Harris constantly referred to as her guiding principles throughout her speech. As I wrote throughout this four-day-long, DNC reinvention fest, everything from the single-mother schtick

The parent company of iconic American whiskey brand Jack Daniel’s is getting rid of its progressive workplace programs after a conservative activist prepared to launch a boycott against the firm.
American spirits conglomerate Brown Forman, the owner of Jack Daniel’s and other well-known offerings, recently sent an internal memo announcing its plan to halt diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives and end its relationship with a corporate ranking of LGBT-friendly employers.
Brown Forman is the fourth company with conservative clientele to scrap its left-wing workplace initiatives in recent weeks,

It remains to be seen what the Ukrainian invasion of Russia will accomplish on the battlefield or how long it will even last. Nevertheless, there are some signs that the invasion is causing some Russians, and not just the ones currently being evacuated from their homes, to turn on President Putin.
While news outlets in Russia have tried to put a more positive spin on the developments in the war, focusing on the Russian government’s humanitarian response, some Russian social media users have expressed discontent.
Many of the online postings, according to the analysis by FilterLabs AI, say Ukraine’s advance is a failure of the Russian government

Former president Donald Trump abruptly ended an interview with NewsNation Thursday after his security team alerted him to possible danger. This is the latest security threat against Trump as he runs for president for a third time.
“Can I tell you something? We’re in danger standing here talking,” Trump said to NewsNation reporter Ali Bradley mid-interview, the network reported. “So let’s not talk any longer.” Trump, speaking to Bradley at the southern border, warned her that she was also in danger before he ended the interview.

A member of the Texas Democratic delegation, who arrived in Chicago for the Democratic National Convention this week, was robbed at gunpoint while walking with a friend in the city early Wednesday morning.
The delegate’s name is unknown at this time, CWBChicago reported. The outlet said it is “not identifying him by name because he is a crime victim.” The Chicago Police Department did not immediately respond to National Review’s request for comment.

CARACAS - Venezuela's Supreme Justice Tribunal on Thursday ratified President Nicolas Maduro's victory in the July 28 presidential election, sealing institutional backing for the ruling party as the disputed contest fades from international headlines.
Since the vote and deadly anti-government protests which followed, Maduro's administration has conducted what the opposition, human rights groups and unions have characterized as a crackdown on dissent.
The actions have included arrests of opposition figures and protesters, an investigation into opposition leaders for allegedly inciting the military to commit crimes, the passage of a law tightening rules on NGOs, and forced resignations of state employees allegedly espousing pro-opposition views.

'Tis better to be silent and be thought a fool, than to speak and remove all doubt.
This quote by Mark Twain... or Abraham Lincoln — it's still unclear as to who said it — is not advice that Democrats thought to take, because the more they opened their mouths during the DNC, the more people seemed to sour on them.
While it was always inevitable that Kamala Harris and Tim Walz would suffer what I call the "Disney dip" or what others are calling the "sugar high," it would appear the DNC sped the collapse. According to the website Polymath, the largest website that deals with betting

The third evening of festivities at the Democratic National Convention culminated in the acceptance speech of Minnesota Governor Tim Walz. The preceding speakers pushed him out of prime time and into proximity with the George McGovern Memorial time slot. Walz was to be the last speaker during the 9:00 p.m. hour (EDT). Oprah Winfrey made a “surprise appearance.” Her star turn was not listed on the hourly schedule released by the DNC. It must have contributed to the lateness of the hour at which Walz appeared.
Walz took the spotlight a little after 11:00 (EDT). I think they intended for him to appear before then, but that’s the way it went.
