Country legends The Chicks were heavily panned for an awkwardly off-key performance of the National Anthem at the Democrat National Convention.
The Nashville natives, who created a firestorm of controversy 20 years ago over criticism of George W. Bush and the Iraq War, were a highly-anticipated get for the DNC on its final night.
However, their performance of the Star-Spangled Banner was almost universally slammed, even by fans of the band formerly known as 'The Dixie Chicks' before dropping the d-word in 2020.

Why would the Democrats get the DIXIE Chicks to sing the National Anthem when they were so hated that they were put practically put out of the country music business for being un-American dirt bags.
Country Legends?? Hardly. Unless you call Benedict Arnold a legend.

Not quite up to their skills of 20 plus years ago - but who is? That said, they aint a current star and THAT says quite a lot. Notably, Beyonce did not sing for the most important night of the DNC. Maybe she CAN read a room.....

Wow. Not exactly Whitney Houston's Superbowl performance in '91.

It's not horrible. Mostly it was their decisions on where to go with some peculiar passing chords in the harmony. The average ear expects to hear one thing and they get something different and the inclination is to say 'off key'.
No fan of these women, but the issue should not be described as off key as much as quirky harmony choices. That and the country 'slide' in which the singer does not start on the intended note but a bit lower then 'finds' the pitch.

If you lay down with dogs, you get up with fleas. Shame on them for doing that to our National Anthem. On purpose.

Re #5: They dropped "Dixie" long ago. Over the hill extremeist leftist pukes. Don't bother to say goodbye, "chicks." You left the arena long ago. Politics was always more important to you than music. That was the wrong decision. Live with it, losers. We will hear you no more. Ungawa.

Silly libtards still trying to keep the Ditzy Twits career afloat. Sorry, but it's all in vain. The only gigs those numbskulls are getting anymore are at DNC functions and on the Dyke Circuit.

No matter how hard they try to fool everyone, the left simply can’t do “patriotic” without looking like complete frauds.
I didn’t watch one second of the convention but have read that they had American flags and were shouting, “USA”. Back in 2016, Hillary got panned for not having a single American flag on the stage and her team had to run out and buy some. And the shouts of “USA” were stolen from conservatives who actually mean it when they shout it.

the dixie chicks are so yesterday - nobody in Nashville even mentioned them anymore. If they are appearing anywhere it's not anyplace well known.
They need to hang it up.

They never could sing on key. I didn't like them from the start and even less after their comments about Bush and the war.

I happened to be watching Stuart Varney on Fox Business yesterday and one could hear a group rehearsing the national anthem in the background. What struck me was the off-harmony toward the end. Perhaps the atonal sound was intentional.

#15 has it correct. I expect the DNC planners knew the national anthem would be sung every day; they wanted to reach out to the rednecks in flyover country who might be impressed that "country" singer or group was invited to the convention. That won't make flyover country vote for the dems. It would be revealing to know who the planning committee approached to sing but declined the offer. I can imagine half a dozen or more turned it down because they disagree with the Left and/or they felt that singing at the dem convention would damage their image.
