With Kamala Harris becoming a rock star by inviting rock stars to open her act, it’s clear she’s focused on generating excitement through pure fluff. But whereas Harris captures headlines with showmanship, Donald Trump has an opportunity to resonate deeply with a far more substantial and often overlooked voting bloc: those who have paid into the Social Security system. If Trump zeroes in on this group, he can unlock a political goldmine that could propel him back into the White House.
In what even the New York Times admits could be a game-changer, Trump has proposed ending income taxes on Social Security benefits.

I remember the good old days before democrats raided social security and it was actually tax free. This is a winning policy for PDT. Before everyone screams, we can’t afford it! I beg to differ. Stop sending money overseas and giving massive benefits to illegal aliens. Then make the government leaner and demand it live within its means. Get rid of the dead wood. Do meaningful audits. And cut the luxuries out of the budgets. No more lavish conferences with five star accommodations. Do what you need over Zoom. Americans are sick of funding this entitled bureaucracy. Let’s give our own some breathing room. Take care of our veterans and seniors. The entitled bureaucrats deserve nothing.

#1 covers it well. The government is fat, corrupted and needs to tighten its belt. We can not afford to feed the entire world along with our own internal parasites because most of them hate us while they gladly accept our money.

Count on 0bama to use all 'Alinsky' tactics to either distort the proposal or just bury it with Media's help. If Trump does make this proposal it should be force fully brought and kept front and center. $1.8 trillion over ten years is peanuts compared to what Obie has wasted so far..

Every time I do our taxes and see the amount of money we pay on our Social Security income I want to put my fist through a wall. It’s as if our government wants us completely dependent on them…..which they do.

Poster #5, probably before the month is out, the only difference will be that President Trump means it.

FTA - "If Trump pursues this strategy with vigor, he may find that the road back to the White House is paved with the support of millions of Americans who just want what they’ve rightfully earned — without Uncle Sam dipping into their pockets yet again."
Go for it, Mr. President. Having part of my SS income double-taxed has been a burr under my saddle since I retired. Also, consider including our young working people in the discussion because most of them think the Social Security Program will sunset before they even get near retirement age.

Besides, I thought amendments in the Constitution already prohibit double taxation.

It's only a proposal, and has to pass the Congress, and Trump would have to sign it. Congress is likely to means test it. Seniors working pay ss on their current earnings, and if they have elected to draw their ss, they pay income taxes on that; effectively reducing their ss by half, which is the government's way of computing anything.

It’s a great plan, even tho its tenets are misunderstood. Workers pay in, and then get a draw when they retire. Accumulated earnings by the SS are accumulated without tax, but at a rate barely even with inflation.

Continuing…the original ss was a small supplement designed for poor widows. Currently, my disabled niece receives about 36 k annually, (ssdi) free med care, housing assistance..and very high income people receive the max ss benefit. At least the tax claws back ss from the rich…but these taxes should have gone to ss

More great ideas like this! Stop with the 3 hour mind dumps and focus on policy in the next 4 years! Keep saying the same thing every week until November and Trump loses! Fact! Cmon GOP! Heads out of butts!

Guess what political idiot voted for taxing SS. Biteme did that. Taxing money which had already been taxed. Double taxation. It's a way of life for the demosluts.

I get 40% of my social security amount. I have a state teachers’ pension so that is the justification for the government keeping 60% of what my amount would be without the pension. I’m not sure how or when this amount was decided, but it seems unfair. The promise was that social security was set aside for retirement. Alas, the government gives, and, sure as the sun rises in the east, the government takes away. Especially now, since Bidenomics and Kamalamania, I’m spending more than 10 grand a year just to live.

But, but, but isn't President Trump going to END Social Security???
We hear this crap EVERY election cycle, along with "banning books" now...
What has happened when we try to make things "age appropriate".. nobody wants to ban ALL books for heaven's sake-- Rush Limbaugh used to say that "words mean things". When did our words and phrases get hijacked and when did our watch dog media become lap dogs to spread propaganda??
sarcasm/off

I like the idea, but believe it's only taxed if you take your SS early and not at 67 which is the Full Retirement Age (FRA) for everyone now. But, you can still take an early payout starting at 62 - they should have raised that gradually to 64 when they increased the FRA from 65 to 67, but that's another topic.
With the entire tax package due for negotiations next year - many of Trumps tax reductions expire next year as they needed it to help balance the package. The expectation was a growing economy would resolve the "adding to the deficit" scare used by Democrats except when they add to the deficit.
Just saw how we have 23 million government workers but only 14 million manufacturing jobs in the U.S.
Government workers require more taxes, fees and revenues to support indefinitely since no program is ever reduce, cut or eliminated because they achieved their objective (i.e. solved or greatly reduced poverty).
