Maine Adopts 72-Hour Waiting Period for
Gun Purchases after Lewiston Mass Shooting

Maine adopted a new law requiring gun retailers to institute a 72-hour waiting period before customers can bring their purchased guns back home, one of many gun-related bills enacted following the state’s deadliest mass shooting last October. [snip] Governor Janet Mills (D.) allowed the bill to become law without signing it. In April, Mills said she felt “deeply conflicted” after thinking “long and hard about the potential impacts of this bill.”Taking both positions into account, Mills did not sign the legislation.

Comments:

Recognizing the law conflicts with the Constitution, the weasel allowed it to become law without her signature.

Very smart of Mills to reach that decision. All insane people come back to their senses after a 72 hour waiting period, everybody knows that.

How many times has this happened in Maine, heartbroke dude, goes to the club where his ex is hanging with her new squeeze, a former FRIEND of his, hanging with all of HIS "former friends", and totally shoots up the joint, and then goes to their other regular hangout and shoots THAT up? NEVER...This is the first and ONLY time, there is no reason to pass some new law, that even the promulgators of admits would have done NOTHING to stop this event. I know some folks in Maine, have some cousins there, have gone up there bird hunting, and been up there working on boats and sailing. EVERYONE I ever met up there already has plenty of guns, the only people this law would effect are Massholes and others moving to maine. What weapons did the Cops bring to the scene to SOLVE this mass shooter issue? The exact ones the lefties want to ban...would you make a Law that the COPS have to wait 72hrs to respond to an event? If even ONE of the victims in ether of the two locations had been armed, the whole thing likely would have been over in under 1 minute....certainly in under 72 seconds.

Yet another reason to have a gun (or ten) before you want one. Also, buy them from strangers in cash. The days of bills of sale and having the police run the numbers for you have been replaced by keeping things hidden. The fascists will be by for them. Better if they dont know.

As Mr. Birkby, my constitutional law professor at Vanderbilt, liked to say, "Hard cases make bad law." And they do. This new Maine law, passed without gubernatorial signature, is a typical overreaction to a terrible crime, is unconstitutional, and will probably be overturned by a sane court.

The third-rate vaudeville being mounted in Chicago this week is irrelevant to anything that matters - except for the bleak fact that half the American people are minded to go along with it, which helps explains why meaningful course-correction is all but impossible. This grim vignette, however, struck me as almost poignant: [snip for Tweet] Almost two decades ago, I began my demographic bestseller America Alone with a famous assertion by the historian Arnold Toynbee: Civilisations die from suicide, not murder.

Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD) told the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, Illinois, on Monday night that Republicans could try to “kill” Sen. JD Vance. Raskin was referring to the hostility expressed by a small group of rioters on January 6, 2021, who brought a mock guillotine to the Capitol and were said to be searching for Vice President Mike Pence to punish him for not rejecting the congressional certification of the Electoral College vote. The speech was bitter, and vindictive — as much of Raskin’s rhetoric has been about Trump, even before he took office.

CHICAGO, Illinois — Vice President Kamala Harris has hired disgraced “Russia collusion” hoaxer Marc Elias to help lead her massive team of election lawyers as they prepare to fight former President Donald Trump and the Republicans over voting results. Elias will join a team of lawyers that is reportedly ten times larger than the team of 600 lawyers that then-candidate Joe Biden boasted he had hired in the summer of 2020 to challenge election results in close contests nationwide. The New York Times reported Elias’s new role in the Kamala Harris campaign on the opening day of the Democratic National Convention in Chicago.
