Baby Boomers Bring Big Bucks to Tempting
Texas Town

Too many people have all kinds of weird things pop into their heads when you mention the word "wealth." So when an article appears that mentions (almost certainly correctly) that Baby Boomers are at the moment the wealthiest generation and reveals how they are apparently flocking to a town in Texas with wheelbarrows full of cash (almost certainly an exaggeration), it's easy to spot some of those misconceptions. Georgetown, Texas, is the place to be, at least if you're of a certain age. Thanks to a surge in baby boomers moving into the city just 40 miles north of Austin, it's the fastest-growing city in America.

Just inside the eastern boundary of the Balcones, Comanche country. The Journal article makes clear it's also Trump country along the purple I-35 corridor.

A word to seniors - whatever you think your “medical expenses” will be when you retire, think about doubling it. I’m shocked every year when I see the cost of our Medicare supplement, prescription plans and deductibles, and medical needs not covered by insurance.

Yeah, well, that can be good or bad....mostly depending on where they moved from. If too many are from LA or Portlnd or NYC, etc and they bring their NY/LA/Portland political views with them, I feel sorry for the ordinary folks in the town. But, if they are good conservatives, fed up with some Dem hellhole, and will be voting sensibly, then they'll probably be pretty welcome. Let's hope that they are going to be Trump supporters. Note that they did NOT move to Austin.

The article does make the point that boomers have worked all their lives, had the time to save for retirement, pay off their mortgages and kids' college. Just a natural progression as you climb the financial ladder. I have said for years that every high school should have a class that teaches the brutal facts of economics...stay out of credit card debt. It's a suckers' game and you will have a hard time beating the house. Work hard, show up on time and don't p*** your money away on unnecessary "stuff". I know when you are young it's tempting to pull that card out for a big TV or fun vacation and think "I'll pay it off later". I am not being judgemental (well, maybe a little), I have been there. They don't realize how hard "later" will be.

I moved away from Georgetown 12 years ago, when I couldn't abide the rapid influx of northern and west coast liberals, looking for fellow travelers in the northern Austin suburbs. In spite of its proximity to Austin, Williamson County had steadfastly remained conservative until late in Obama's reign. I broke even in selling my home and headed east to the East Texas Piney Woods to a largely rural county that went for Trump by 83% in '20. Texas has always been a welcoming place, which could end up being its downfall, as seen in our large urban areas. My only regret in leaving Georgetown for East Texas is the money I left on the table selling my house. Purchased as new construction in 2006, it is selling today for 3 X its original selling price, a result of people flush with California real estate money, as they cashed out and began flooding the area. I needed to flee the changing political demographics more than I needed money but slouching into retirement with Biden as president changes the calculus a great deal.

Well #6, I understand and are glad for you now being where you are. As so many rural areas fill up with newcomers, you will be glad you already have your piece of heaven. I haven’t seen a place yet than ten years down the road didn’t rue the day they were the “fastest growing city in the USA.” Therefore, I kinda hate to see the city get that publicity. I do have one friend from Rockwall where a once quiet rural place is unrecognizable from 15 years ago. Unfortunately, with its easy drive to Dallas, it was only a matter of time. The wealth is nice. The shopping is nice. However, my friend says she liked the town’s charm of the past over the glitz any day. God bless Georgetown and their elected officials as they deal with all the headaches super fast population growth brings.

Well I hope the yankees and west coast air sniffers realize what originally made the town so good and not mess it up by electing AOC and Adam Schiff type politicians. But unfortunately most liberals are dumber than a second coat of pain.

#7 - Fort Bend County (Richmond, county seat) concurs wholeheartedly. We've gone blue, and not just because of Californians, but furriners too, a lot from some pretty...shall we say nefarious?.... portions of the world. Lots of good cuisine but questionable voting standards. We're looking at East Texas too.

Fearing a floor revolt against his nomination, President Biden’s aides are telephoning individual delegates to next month’s Democratic convention to gauge their loyalty to the president, according to three delegates who received a call this week. After a round of introductory questions confirming each delegate was still planning on going to Chicago and asking if they had served as delegate before, the Biden aide making the calls got to the point, the Democratic activists recalled to me in separate interviews. One of the delegates said the line of questioning turned with an inquiry along the lines of, “Do you understand what being a pledged delegate means?”

Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) on Wednesday morning did not provide a direct answer when she was asked if she wanted President Joe Biden to continue his campaign for president. The California Democrat was pressed on the issue on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” and said she and other Democrats would support whatever Biden chooses to do. “It’s up to the president to decide if he is going to run,” Pelosi said. “We’re all encouraging him to make that decision because time is running short,” she added. Pelosi said Biden has the “overwhelming support of the caucus,” although

How many times have you heard people say that Donald Trump can be his own worst enemy? How many times have you thought that he could do so much more good if he didn’t get in his own way? Or, as Ben Domenech puts it at Spectator World, “The attitude is ubiquitous among some portions of the president’s base: they just think he’d be better off if he could focus and not give Democrats so much material. But because this hypothetical has never emerged, we never really got to find out if it was true — until now.” For the last few weeks, we’ve largely seen that wish come true.

Two weeks. We've had two weeks since Joe Biden's disastrous debate performance. Normally, a debate sustains a news cycle for a few days. But Biden's performance was so bad, his obvious mental decline so apparent, that the media just can't let it go. To be fair, we on the right have not let it go since his basement campaign in 2020. But the media has suddenly had their eyes opened and the veil lifted. They see now what they were too un-curious to see before: Biden is a man in decline. The problem for the Democrats is that, when it comes to seeking another candidate, time is up. The ideal time

By the time we saw Joe Biden’s debate debacle, the media had spent four years covering up his mental and physical decline to help Democrats. After Biden’s fragile mental state was exposed, the media instantaneously began pushing Biden out of the presidential race to help Democrats. The goal remains the same. The Wall Street Journal reports this week that Biden’s senior advisers “aggressively stage-managed” the president’s “schedule, movements and personal interactions, as they sought to minimize signs of how age has taken a toll on the oldest president in U.S. history.” Basically, everyone in the White House — as well as big-money donors — conspired to hide that the president

The effort stands no chance of advancing in the Republican-controlled House of Representatives. (Photo) Democrats for years have criticized the court, which has a 6-3 conservative majority, over rulings that advanced causes popular on the right. These have included rolling back abortion rights, expanding gun rights, rejecting race-conscious collegiate admissions and ruling that former presidents have broad immunity from prosecution
