Wichita State University is closing its women’s studies department, one of the oldest in the country, due to continuously low student interest. The Department of Women, Ethnicity, and Intersectional Studies will be dissolved and its degree program will be merged with the English Department, according to an action plan approved earlier this month by the Kansas Board of Regents. “As part of the Board’s academic program review process, this year the six state universities in Kansas collectively looked at 31 programs that didn’t meet at least three of four metrics related to enrollment, graduation, employment and earnings,” regents spokesperson Matt Keith said.

Exactly what job would be waiting for a woman’s studies major after graduation? I’m at a loss.

I would be willing to bet that most of the students who majored in anything that ended with the word "studies" are ones who have never paid off much if any student debt because they don't make enough.

Pardon the second post...hit enter too soon. This is really good news. The article mentions that other "special studies" majors, such as Chicano Studies, are also on the chopping block. These niche ethnic, sex or sexual orientation "studies" programs are all part and parcel of the Marxist planned Balkanization and destruction of American society. They've been around for decades yet they still only attract a very small number of students, and I'll wager most of them are probably on some type of scholarship, public dole, or future student loan default. These programs offer no intrinsic value to society in either providing service or knowledge. Now that money is tight, even lefty universities can no longer afford to fund their divisive nonsense. At least we have something to thank Joe Biden for tanking the economy. He's even made Marxism unaffordable!

Here's another English major. My father wasn't pleased to learn that I had majored in English. (Vanderbilt University had an excellent English department.) He would have preferred business administration or engineering for me--something that would lead to a well remunerated career. However, I had made the right choice for myself because I love literature and poetry, and have been an inveterate reader since childhood. Where would a degree in English lead me? I did what all English majors should do: I turned pro and headed to the golf course. That was the proper decision for me, too.

Good news, and SO MANY good replies! However, I have a few quibbles. #5, I have never been on OnlyFans, but I get the impression it is a site where females who believe they are attractive pose in scanty attire hoping to attract 'clicks'. Would a typical 'Women's Studies' graduate get any clicks? #13, I ask that you don't insult plumbers and electricians. They work hard, build and repair vital systems, and a lot of them make pretty good money doing it. Just the opposite of the 'Gender Studies' profile... most of whom do not know which end of a screwdriver you hold and which end engages the screw. What did ex-tip-stealing barista AOC (a.k.a. 'Sandy from the Bronx' -who actually had rather wealthy parents) study? I thought it was economics..... but apparently she didn't absorb much practical knowledge during her time in class. Agree that the government should not subsidize these useless degrees. The more the government provides 'aid', the more the universities raise their prices, and the more that taxpayers have to shell out so as to fund the whole corrupt system. I have the strong impression that the whole system of 'useless degrees' got its start with Vietnam War draft-dodgers (like the Horndog) enrolling in some very easy program not to get an education, but to avoid the draft. As for the less radical females, I think that many of them were looking for an 'MRS' degree. As for the real radicals, I have no idea. Whatever thoughts run through their skulls is totally foreign to me.

Everyone should like what #24 writes. Indeed, plumbers, electricians, and the like should never be disparaged. Keith Richards said that he would be a terrible plumber because the only thing he knew how to do was play the guitar. If he needs a plumber, he will call a plumber, not try to do it himself.
