Surgeon General Calls for Tobacco-Style
Social-Media Health Warnings

Original Article

Surgeon General Dr. Vivek Murthy called for Congress to place warning labels on social-media platforms on Monday, similar to the labels for cigarettes and alcohol, in order to protect kids’ mental health. “The mental health crisis among young people is an emergency — and social media has emerged as an important contributor,” Murthy wrote in a New York Times op-ed, warning that prolonged screen time negatively alters an adolescent’s brain. To illustrate his point, he cited a 2019 American Medical Association study, which concluded that teens who spend more than three hours per day on social media double their risk of anxiety and depression.

And labels have done so very well preventing underage (and adult) smoking. Right. These labels are just insurance against being sued. And laws which supposedly keep children from alcohol are worthless virtue signaling. You want to protect children then promote intact homes and maybe make it a crime to walk away from parental responsibilities. Bring the adult male elephants back...(look it up).

The Surgeon General moving against social media use seems to be the type of mission creep that government is known for. While overuse of social media may lead to mental health issues in some people, it does not in most. You can warn people about it but to have the government start putting "WARNINGS" out often leads to limits or other limits that are not governments place to impose. It should be a parents responsibility to impose these limits.

Meanwhile, the excrement is hitting the fan across the "fruited plain", and we're worrying about this? Walk around anywhere in your city, town, mall or any place people congregate. Heads are buried in cell phones, oblivious to actual events or personal interactions. The folks are "hooked" on the electronic narcotic. Too late for warnings now. The phones will serve their true purpose when they trumpet the inevitable "national emergency."

What has been more effective in combatting the dangers of tobacco? Warnings on the package or all the educational warnings on TV? The same goes for the internet. There are people out on the internet whose sole purpose is to mess with other people's minds, and they will spout lies and BS all day long. Children have to be protected from them. The people in the best position to do that are the parents, not the government.

Well if Murthy wants to bring it up, he should add the explosion of "trans kids" notably females, emanating from online social contagion which has gone through our youngest generation like Grant goes through Richmond. But then he would have to confront HIMself for failing to protect these poor children, many of whom destroy their bodies with drugs and mutilation surgeries with the full blessing of his office and the encouragement of his president.

It's understandable, considering the shameful information about the ban that surfaced, but it's somewhat surprising to see someone actually backtrack their antisemitism. Let's be clear, though — France is no hero. There are obvious benefits for them in rescinding the ban. It was hardly a show without the 74 Israeli companies or affiliates that had been disinvited. In fact, immediately after the ban garnered international attention, people started to call out the hypocrisy, considering Israeli technology was among some of the main attractions in the exhibition.

Over one thousand humanitarian aid trucks languished on the Gazan side of the Kerem Shalom border crossing, the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reported on Monday, adding that UN officials claimed that looting of trucks made the distribution of the aid too dangerous. On Sunday, Israel announced a “tactical pause of military activity” along the road stretching from the Kerem Shalom crossing to the Salah al-Din Road before continuing north. The IDF noted that the pause, which took place from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. local time, was part of a joint effort with the Coordination of Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT) to increase the amount of humanitarian aid going into Gaza.

"The child had had a bleed in her brain, shortly after she was born, and so couldn’t walk. She had never taken a step in her life," Bush wrote.
