For his own sake, DeSantis should drop out

The race between Ron DeSantis and Nikki Haley to secure a clear and commanding second place to Donald Trump is starting to feel like an old Law and Order episode.
You know the ones.
Where two guys who committed a crime are separated and the first one to flip gets the better plea deal?
As it stands, DeSantis and Haley could both choose to be the first to drop out and endorse Trump, thus ensuring the other is set up for a grueling one on one with the surging former president that looks to be a very uphill climb.

FTA:
Aside from Chris Christie, Haley is the only candidate left who is running not to be a better executed extension of Trump style populism, but a turn, or return, in a different direction.
From her hawkish foreign policy to her squishy stance on abortion, to her removal of the confederate battle banner from South Carolina’s flag, Haley runs to the middle, echoing the style of the Bushes.

Marcus makes a fine case for why this would enhance DeS's chances for a future run at president.

A month or so ago I would have discounted this call for DeSantis to drop out. Now I agree with this writer's assessment. DeSantis should drop out and get behind Trump. Most of DeSantis' supporters would move to Trump, increasing his huge lead to overwhelming. It is time for Trump to be relieved of opponents so that he can wholeheartedly focus on beating the atrocious Biden.

The headline says it all. The longer he fools around this year and next, the more he spoils it for himself in 2028.
And he really needs to (I think, but cannot prove) stop listening to his wife as a political advisor.

He'd do it - - but his wife won't let him. She has Dr. Jill Ambition Syndrome.

This DeSantis supporter believes the governor will (barring a miraculous outcome in Iowa) drop out very shortly after the caucuses.
After that I will be with Trump to the bitter end (and I DO think it will be bitter).

“Volumes will be written about the failure of the DeSantis campaign to gain traction, theories abound.”
“It was too online, it should have officially launched earlier, it should not have officially launched on Twitter, say some, others say, well, he just doesn’t have “it.”
This lack of understanding mimics people who think there is a “boycott of Bud Light “ No boycott at all , they destroyed the brand, the brand doesn’t exist anymore, so we can’t buy it. Simple.
Ron DeSantis destroyed his brand. His constituency voted for him to be the Governor of Florida, not to run for President. He betrayed them and he’ll betray us. His brand does not exist anymore so we can’t vote for it.
It’s that simple.

Oh, for God's sake.
Trump saw DeSantis long ago as his chief rival for the nomination and has been savaging him ever since. Dem strategists determined early on that the governor represented the gravest threat to the Party's hold on the White House. Dems and their media lackeys targeted him unceasingly.
Conclusion: the Trump campaign and Dems made common cause to knock DeSantis down. It appears to have worked. And I for one think it's a crying shame. There are reasons the left fear/feared DeSantis. Yes, Donald Trump is a force of nature. But in some ways, DeSantis is the most formidable person to run for the nomination in my lifetime. My two cents.

# 8 - Ron DeSantis DID NOT betray this Floridian, who has voted for him twice.
Sometimes the intensity of Trump sentiment on this board takes on the feel of the J6 Commission at its worst.

DeSantis got some really bad advice when he threw his hat into the ring for 2024. It was foolish to challenge a very popular Trump, especially since Trump could not run in 2028. He should have waited four years.

Haley and DeSantis are like high school teams challenging the Super Bowl champion. Best to drop out now before you really get hurt.

I've been a PDJT supporter ever since he came down that escalator and set the fake news on fire. But I've been a supporter of Governor DeSantis ever since he beat Andrew "Down Low" Gilliam and become the best governor in my beloved country. He cleaned Newsome's clock with his record and the facts so badly that Mrs. Newsome had to recuse him. I'm not a member of his campaign but I would've advised him to wait until 2028. With the PDJT juggernaut out of way with his record he would've been a shoe-in. What he needs to do now is bow out gracefully, fully support PDJT and try again in 4 years. Politics being fickle he may still have a shot at the Oval Office. He'd get my vote.
