Given the recent discussions about a potential Vice President pick by Donald Trump, several people have asked for my perspective.Because I look at the office of the presidency slightly different than most, and specifically because the real challenge that needs to be addressed is located deep inside each institution of government, my perspective on the running mate is somewhat different than most.
The Vice President is the safety mechanism for continuity of government in the event that something happens to the President.

Continuity, 'ready to fill the shoes etc. is all fine. The ONLY practical consideration is - whoever will be most useful in winning on Election Day. The rest doesn't matter.

In the past Trump picked a lot of bad people for various posts, getting bad advice, and I haven't seen where he has divorced himself from those advising him with the exception of his son-n-law Jerod, and I hope he doesn't reinsert him and his daughter, both life long Democrats.

Ben Carson a great surgeon, but a babe in the woods when it comes to politics.
Just as Trump was when he got started. He took a lot of advice on his Administration from people who led him wrong and he paid for it dearly. We need someone with experience dealing with corruption, and political influence. And someone who can pull in votes. Trump has learned a lot and hopefully gets to do even better in his second term, but the VP job is also important. DeSantis is out, he made too many bad remarks about Trump for them to get along good. Ramaswamy has some good ideas, but I don't see him as VP. I like Ted Cruz, but he wouldn't take the job. I like Kari Lake, her former job as a reporter kept her well informed and she know who in the Government is phony and who isn't .

My favorite from the replies:
"If RFK Jr was put at the head of CIA, the collective sound of pants being pi(zz)ed at Langley would rival the noise of Niagara Falls."
Which is why Dementia Joe repeatedly denies RFK Jr. SS protection. They are hoping that something permanent happens to him.

Some of his choices for the other positions make me question everything else he said.

The only problem with Dr. Carson is his age. He's 72 now which means he will be 73 as VP and 77 as 2028 nominee. At a time when age is in the forefront because of FJB that doesn;t bode well for him.

I have the utmost respect for dr. Carson. I do not believe he has the demeanor to be Trump’s running mate in a presidential campaign. He’ll be savaged (unjustly) and I don’t see him fighting back as would need to be.

I'm sure this will be controversial, but I'd love to see Palin take another shot at VP. She would be great as VP and if necessary as president. She got a raw deal last time running with a scoundrel and being savaged by her own team, who seemed determined to lose.

Re #2, PDJT was admittedly an outsider to our federal government. Chris Christie was responsible for many appointees. The military ones nlike Mattis and McMasters came from Condoleeza Rice.
PDJT did not come with a lot of cozy DC alliances, I viewed that as a plus. As for Jared and Ivanka, they have been kneejerk scapegoats, handy but without any basis intruth whatsoever. He probably did what many of is do: Listen to our adult children and then make up our own minds. There were many jobs to be filled - a dainting task for an insider, let alone an avowed outsider. Those who know PDJT say he is his own man, indebted to no one, and though open to input he is known to make his own decisions.

Maybe a few head-scratchers in there, but every one of them would be a vast improvement over what we have now, possibly the biggest, most incompetent joke of an Administration in American history.

I think very highly of Dr. Carson. I also see some problems with this choice. One, he is a gentleman and is not fit to aggressively fight back to everyone attacking him. Two, at his age of 72 makes it more unlikely he could run in 24 and still make it through 8 more years. I am 72 and would not take the job if offered. We need a strong constitutionalist that can make the fight to keep our Republic. When I say we need someone younger (50ish or so) I am not referring to any on the list. In the meantime we need to clean the roaches out of the RNC.

@#9 - I think McConnell basically chose many of Trump's cabinet by telling him who the Senate would confirm and who was a no-go.

Vivek would be a good czar (no Senate approval is needed) for the Office of Taxpayer Accountability. Immediately after PDT takes the oath of office and people are cheering, PDT signs his first EO. Immediately reduce many federal depts by at least 10%. New Sec'ys have 60 days to prove the dept's value to the taxpayer or another 10% gone in 90 days. And on and on and on. Vivek would be a champ at not listening to whiney federal employees. Also remove redundant gov't regulations etc.

# 9 there was no "plus " to the people he picked for many positions in his administration which pointed to a single person in his administration who was over picking those President Trump had to choose from. I forget the person's name, but it was not plus that Trump was an outsider and naive about who he was picking.

His VP pick should be the one to whom the Torch will be passed for the 2028 election. Someone like a Sen. Josh Hawley, Sen. Tom Cotton, or Rep. Matt Gaetz come to mind...

I love those ideas for CIA, FBI, DOJ and Treasury!
But the last time I heard Trump asked if he would replace Wray at the FBI, he hedged.

Just the thought of Robert Kennedy, Jr. as head of the CIA made my day! Can you even imagine the number of heads exploding all over Washington DC? I also like the thought of Josh Hawley as VP.

I was prepared to lay into Sundance after reading the article for yet another shot in the dark while pretending to know the mindset of Donald Trump. He actually did a great job in laying out the new government while the usual throwing of darts from some posters deserve the critical attention. President Trump has received a complete new education, not during his first term but during his second and he now has the knowledge and experience to kick ass and take names. Running fifty points ahead of the weak competition will allow him to pick the VP of his choice and win provided the Republicans don't try to pull the rug out like they tend to do when things are difficult. I would trust a 100-year-old Ben Carson any day.

Forget Tom Cotton as VP - he is a strong supporter of forever wars. Massie - hmmm - not so sure about that one.
Regardless of who is secretary of whatever department. They have to bring in their own people and gut the leftovers from Biden and Obama. However, under Obama, many/most/all of his political appointees were allowed to convert to federal employee with all the civil service protections. It is going to take four years of Trump and then another 8 years of his successor to even come close to cleaning out these agencies. And some agencies just need to be eliminated: FBI, CIA, NSA, Education, etc.

I think Lee Zeldin would be a good choice, he is 43 now and has a superb track record and policy standards similar to PDJT. I think he would be a fantastic president after 2028. I know he would totally run circles around Kamala Harris in any debate should she accept one.

I have the utmost respect for Dr. Carson as a surgeon and as a man. And his ethnicity would draw fence-sitting votes while leaving liberal knickers twisted most Mobiusly.
I have two concerns about him, though:
1. He has little management experience; four years at HUD, and whatever OJT Trump could arrange over four more years, for which I'm sure he would be a quick study. But I don't see this equaling DJT's lifetime of management.
2. As other posters have noted, he would also need Trump's ability to get out front and go for the jugular. I'm afraid he's too nice for that.
