A federal appeals court issued a ruling Monday that could gut the Voting Rights Act, saying only the federal government — not private citizens or civil rights groups — is allowed to sue under a crucial section of the landmark civil rights law.
The decision out of the 8th Circuit will almost certainly be appealed to the Supreme Court. But should it stand, it would mark a dramatic rollback of the enforcement of the law that led to increased minority representation in American politics. The appellate court ruled that there is no “private right of action” for Section 2 of the law — which prohibits voting practices that

WASHINGTON — Lawyers for Donald Trump and the Justice Department squared off Monday in a federal appeals court, where the former president’s lawyers are argued before a panel of skeptical judges that his constitutional rights have been violated by a gag order barring him from disparaging witnesses and prosecutors in the election interference case.
The judges did not immediately issue a decision, but questioned Trump's lawyer on his contention that his speech can't be curtailed at all and grilled the government's attorney over provisions in the gag order that bar Trump from criticizing special counsel Jack Smith and his staff and high-profile possible witnesses in the case.

The Israeli military released video of fortified tunnels running under the al-Shifa Hospital complex on Sunday, providing further further visual evidence that Hamas used the hospital for their military operations.
Two separate videos, one apparently recorded by a drone and the other by an animal or a robot, show a damaged spiral staircase leading down to a 55-meter section of fortified tunnel. The IDF says the tunnel runs ten meters beneath al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza City — the largest hospital in the Gaza Strip. The 55-meter section of the tunnel ends at a blast-proof door complete with a firing hole, apparently built by Hamas to shoot

Democrats have a huge antisemitism problem, and Joe Biden is rapidly losing support with a substantial part of his base because of it.
It is an understatement when I say that I think Biden is a failed president, but I give him credit for being better on the Israel-Hamas war than I thought he would be. Yes, he has been pressuring Israel to stop short of where it should, but this is mostly a result of the Administration’s judgment that US interests diverge from Israel’s regarding the war.
I am not sure that any other US president, other than Trump, would have provided stronger support for Israel.

Anti-socialist Libertarian Party candidate Javier Milei has swept to victory in Argentina’s presidential election. Argentinians poured into the streets to celebrate the win.
Populist Milei’s election opponent, Economy Minister Sergio Massa, conceded, saying, “The results are not what we expected.” If Milei breaks the typical political mold and lives up to his promises, this could be a positive thing for Argentina, which has been a socialist mess for years. No wonder Argentinians are celebrating in the streets.
Western leftist media is freaking out, naturally, not only because Milei emphasizes the importance of the culture war and bashed leftism, but because he has peripherally made positive comments about Donald Trump.

The New York Times editorial board has finally admitted that coronavirus-related school closures “may prove to be the most damaging disruption in the history of American education” in a Sunday opinion piece.
The editorial, titled “The Startling Evidence on Learning Loss Is In,” reflected on the “significant” learning loss suffered by millions of American children who were kept out of the classroom by lockdown policies, and warned of the lasting impact. “The evidence is now in, and it is startling. The school closures that took 50 million children out of classrooms at the start of the pandemic may prove to be the most damaging disruption in the history

JERUSALEM, Israel — The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) released evidence Sunday that Hamas murdered captured soldier Noa Marciano at Shifa Hospital in Gaza. It also showed surveillance footage of terrorists taking other hostages to the hospital.
As Breitbart News reported last week, the IDF recovered Corporal Marciano’s body during operations near Shifa Hospital. Hamas had forced her to make a propaganda video in which she appeared alive one moment, and was shown dead the next moment. Hamas claimed that she had been killed in an Israeli airstrike. On Sunday, IDF spokesman Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari revealed that forensic analysis of Marciano’s body showed that she had minor injuries on October 7

Israeli forces continued their advances into Gaza Sunday as paratroopers and armored units took over the Gaza City neighborhoods of Sheikh Ijlin and Rimal and commandeered Hamas terrorists’ luxury homes as well as parliament and police headquarters. They found multiple weapons and entrances to the terrorists’ extensive tunnel network:
Much of the once-affluent area was already leveled by Israeli air strikes since the war began last month, but the Israel Defense Forces said it still encountered several Hamas operatives in Sheikh Ijlin and Rimal and killed them while also raiding some wealthy terrorist homes.

An NBC journalist was arrested on Thursday in Israel for allegedly inciting terrorism and expressing affiliation with Hamas.
"Marwat Al-Azza, a 45-year-old journalist, employed by the NBC television network and living in east Jerusalem, was arrested after four recent posts on her personal Facebook page regarding the October 7 terror attack by Hamas from the Gaza Strip, in which at least 1,200 people were murdered and 240 taken hostage,” reports the Jerusalem Post. “The police claim that Al-Azza 'arrived ready for arrest,' without a mobile phone, and even wrote phone numbers on her leg." Al-Azza, a Palestinian freelance journalist, reportedly mocked the kidnapping of an elderly Israeli woman in Gaza.

Javier Milei, a volatile far-right libertarian who has vowed to “exterminate” inflation and take a chainsaw to the state, has been elected president of Argentina, catapulting South America’s number two economy into an unpredictable and potentially turbulent future.
With nearly 90% of votes counted, the Mick Jagger impersonating TV celebrity-turned politician, who is often compared to Donald Trump, had secured nearly 56% of the vote compared to Massa’s 44.1%.
Milei’s rival, the centre-left finance minister Sergio Massa, conceded defeat in a press conference on Sunday night.
“Argentinians have chosen another path,” said Massa, who said he had called Milei to congratulate him on his victory and would retire from frontline politics.

Wall Street financiers are looking to Nikki Haley as the candidate to pull the 2024 Republican nomination away from former President Donald Trump, according to The Wall Street Journal.
Haley is currently placing third in national polling at 9.5% behind Gov. Ron DeSantis of Florida at 14.3% and Trump at 59.7%, according to Real Clear Politics. Despite this, Wall Street is considering Haley as a viable alternative to Trump in the 2024 primaries, with some saying that they are “desperate” to keep the former president from becoming the nominee, according to the WSJ.

Rosalynn Carter, who as first lady worked tirelessly on behalf of mental health reform and professionalized the role of the president’s spouse, died Sunday at the age of 96, according to the Carter Center.
Carter passed away peacefully with family by her side at her home in Plains, Georgia, the center said in a statement.
“Rosalynn was my equal partner in everything I ever accomplished,” her husband, former President Jimmy Carter, said in a statement. “She gave me wise guidance and encouragement when I needed it. As long as Rosalynn was in the world, I always knew somebody loved and supported me.”
