Florida governor Ron DeSantis signed a bill into law on Monday that will expand school-choice vouchers to all students in the state. Speaking at an Catholic all-boys school in Miami, DeSantis hailed the move as a major and historic victory for school choice. “Today’s bill signing cements us in that number one position because we’ll be signing legislation which will represent the largest expansion of education choice not only in the history of this state but in the history of these United States. That is a big deal,” DeSantis said to cheers. House Bill 1 expands eligibility so that “a parent of a student may request and receive

This needs to happen everywhere! My grandson goes to a private church school, and my daughter should be entitled to a reimbursement of the property taxes she pays that fund public schools. Teachers' unions have ruined the school system.

This is the kind of competent leadership addressing critical, real problems that I want in our leaders. The leftward drift and ideological insanity in our country has been attained because our leaders lost sight that the left was taking over our public education system at all levels and brainwashing our youth...and did NOTHING about it. DeSantis is doing something about it. I'm honestly disgusted at how petty and politically expedient so many Republicans/conservatives have become in trying to bad-mouth DeSantis in order to discourage him and his supporters. It's foolish and ultimately counterproductive for our real goals. And re-taking control of education is near the top of the list.

This is kabuki. They will still limit the choice of the middle and upper income kids with priority to the low income. This is education discrimination pure and simple. Anything short of taking the tax revenues allocated to education and making that available to ALL students that want to use a voucher for private schools us pure pandering. And the Charter school thing is a joke. It is still administered by the same folks as the public schools.

#10, yes, the schools have ability to declare they are full. Already happening. Waiting lists at the best schools. But more importantly, non-districted schools are allowed to EXPEL students who are disruptive or violate school rules. That means the student usually returns to their districted public school, which, alas, is severely restricted in ability to expel a student. I live in Sarasota county, Florida. Here students have complete school choice within the public school system -- that is, you can have your student attend ANY public school in the county, regardless of where you live. If school is full, you get on a waiting list. Such students have to behave and actually learn, because failure to do so means returning to the districted school. Not all counties in Florida work this way.

Why patriotism and hope in America are collapsing 1 reply
Posted by Dreadnought 3/29/2023 10:47:19 AM Post Reply
Americans are losing faith and interest in their country and its future. There is no other way to read the devastating results of an opinion poll published on Monday by the Wall Street Journal. It finds that only 38% of respondents think patriotism is very important, not much more than half the number who thought so as recently as 1998, when the poll was first conducted. Likewise, there has been a massive decline of interest in religion : Thirty-nine percent now say it is very important compared to 62% 25 years ago. America was founded in large part by people who wanted the freedom to practice their different faiths unmolested.

Former President Donald Trump has taken serious heat since late last week, when he shared an article on his Truth Social account that included an image of him holding a baseball bat next to a picture of Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg. Yet contrary to corporate media narratives, Trump did not create the image and says he did not see a preview of the photo before he posted a link to the article. The bizarre post led to several media outlets claiming Trump was inciting violence against Bragg, who Trump previously announced intended to indict him on a case many legal scholars, including Trump critics,

The suspect who killed six people at a Nashville Christian school is the second transgender-identified woman who has attacked a school since 2019. On Monday, transgender-identified Audrey Elizabeth Hale, 28, killed three adults and three children at the Nashville school. In 2019, Alec McKinney was aged 17 when she helped killed one teenager at a school in Colorado while she claimed to be transgender. Female mass shooters are very rare, but a 2011 study of 133 women who went through Sweden’s masculinization treatment showed that: female-to-males had higher crime rates than female controls … [and] did not differ from male controls. This indicates … that sex reassignment is coupled

The former South Carolina governor laid out her strategy during a town hall in Salem, N.H. Tuesday night, when one of the voters gathered at the Derry-Salem Elks Lodge asked how she planned to best Trump. “When you look at the situation that we have, President Trump has 25 percent of Republicans,” Haley said. “It’s a hard 25 percent. Russian President Vladimir Putin announced in February that it was suspending its participation in the New START nuclear arms treaty with the U.S., citing America’s military support for Kyiv as making it impossible for Moscow to engage with Washington. WASHINGTON — A federal judge has ordered former Vice President Mike Pence to comply with a subpoena in the investigation into former President Donald Trump’s efforts to overturn the 2020 election results, according to a source familiar with the decision. The ruling from Judge James Boasberg, the chief judge for the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, requires Pence to testify before the grand jury tied to the probe led by special counsel Jack Smith. The ruling was issued Monday but remains under seal because it involves grand jury matters. The judge's order gave Pence a partial victory regarding his argument that he was shielded from having to testify

A study commissioned by the Club of Rome and published on Monday found that the world population is approaching its peak and will begin declining swiftly after the middle of the 21st Century, averting the “population bomb” scenario in which longer lifespans, more abundant food, and better medical treatments cause the human race to overwhelm the capacity of the Earth to sustain it. The “population bomb” thesis derives its name from the sensationalistic, and later thoroughly discredited, 1968 book by Stanford University entomologist Paul Ehrlich. Ehrlich’s fanciful book touched off a worldwide overpopulation panic, presenting grim scenarios of imminent mass starvation and resource shortages that did not come to pass.

Way back in the mid-1980s, communist Yugoslavia exported the Yugo, a compact car that sold for around $4,000. It was so poorly made that bumping into a pole at 5 mph could total it. Fast forward to today, and a new class of cars has a similar problem. A minor accident can cause a total loss, even if the car’s been driven only a few miles. The only difference is that these cars aren’t cheap imports from some godforsaken socialist state. These are state-of-art electric vehicles that come with an average sticker price of $55,000.
