Cancel the State of the Union

How did the State of the Union — which owes its origin to a one-liner in the Constitution instructing the president to “from time to time give to the Congress Information of the state of the Union,” become an annual political carnival that requires an UltraMax security cordon to be cast over the Capitol Building, swallows hours of live TV coverage on a half dozen networks, and goads reams of pre- and post-analysis out of the typing press — become such an all-consuming gala?
The Constitution’s authors didn’t think the SOTU was essential, giving presidents the wide instruction that they must only address remarks to Congress “from time to time.”

You must admit it's the one time you can guarantee finding the majority of the foxes in the American henhouse in one place.
The foxes fear the farmers.

Politico's only worried about BalloonGate spoiling Biden's SOTU. 😅🎈

I wouldn’t eliminate the speech because of Biden. Everyone, and I mean everyone, knows that this will not be about the state of the union at all. It will be full of lies about Biden’s imaginary ‘accomplishments’ that have left most Americans slack jawed. It will also be a fruitless campaign speech about the awfulness of people who want to Make America Great Again. I won’t torture myself by watching it. The laughable highlights will be well reported.

Only liberals can cancel.
Now they just need a way to make something required viewing.

We can't cancel the clown circus. It is sort of like the Grammys, Emmys, and Academy Awards all wrapped in one performance.

I wonder if McCarthy will wear a white suit, make faces, and tear Biden's speech up. Or will he wear a FJB tshirt?

The SOTU has become nothing but political theater, essentially a big campaign speech, whose press reviews and opposition rebuttals have been composed before it's even been heard. Maybe it's time to repurpose or reconsider its timing and format.

The Constitution requires that the President periodically "give to the Congress Information of the State of the Union, and recommend to their Consideration such measures as he shall judge necessary and expedient."
The mess we have with SOTUs began with Warren Harding, making the speech via radio in 1922. In 1947, Truman was the first to broadcast on TV.
We should go back to a written report. In any event, every Republican should boycott tonight's speech. That means you, Romney, you, Lindsay, you Mitch.

The State of the Union speech is silly. When the President enters the House chamber after being introduced by some schmuck, members wildly clap and cheer. I'm reminded of the emotional sobbing when Kim Jung Un comes into a meeting hall. Eighty years ago, Joseph Stalin, same thing. Stop it, already, especially Democrats for a Democrat president. Adoration of this socialist imbecile, FJB, has gag limits.

I don’t know if canceling the SOTU is feasible or wise, but it’s worth considering.
