Republican Rep. George Santos positioned himself in a prime location for President Joe Biden’s State of the Union address — an uncomfortably prominent place for the embattled new lawmaker who faces multiple investigations and has acknowledged embellishing and even lying about his life story.
Santos’ presence at the center aisle to see and be seen with the arrivals was met with a stern rebuke from a fellow Republican, Sen. Mitt Romney.
“You don’t belong here,” the Utah Republican scolded Santos as he entered the House chamber and spotted the New York Republican on the aisle.

An Alabama jihadi bride who was stripped of her citizenship after joining ISIS in Syria now claims the terrorist group plans to attack the Syrian camp where she is detained - but says she 'just wants to go home'.
Hoda Muthana, 28, says she fears that ISIS will attack Camp Roj - the detention camp in north east Syria where she has been detained.
Muthana joined the terrorist group when she was 20 but now says she was groomed online by members who wanted to attract young and vulnerable women.

President Joe Biden's State of the Union address kicked off with a sudden smooch between first and second couple members and yet another bold fashion move by influential Sen. Kyrsten Sinema.
The early fireworks opened up a speech that typically devolves into policy lists and platitudes as the night wears on
Tuesday night's prime time event featured angry exchanges between Biden and House Republicans who booed him for claiming they want to 'sunset' Social Security and Medicare.
Sinema made a bold entrance into the House chamber for the speech, after forcing Washington to hold its collective breath during talks on the Inflation Reduction Act, then later announcing she had switched from Democrat to independent.

In her Republican rebuttal to the State of the Union address Tuesday, newly elected Arkansas governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders said that the Biden administration has been hijacked by the woke left, fostering an absurd political environment in which “the choice is between normal or crazy.”
Sanders, who previously served as press secretary to former president Trump, began her speech by drawing a generational juxtaposition with Biden, noting that, at 40, she’s the youngest sitting governor, while Biden is the oldest ever sitting president.
“I’m the first woman to lead my state. And he’s the first man to surrender his presidency to a woke mob that can’t even tell you what woman is,”

New York City is converting the world’s tallest Holiday Inn hotel into the Big Apple’s sixth mega-shelter for its surging migrant population, Mayor Eric Adams announced Tuesday. The deal will supply 492 rooms for adult families and single women, Adams said in a statement. “With more than 44,000 asylum seekers arriving in the last 10 months alone, we have helped provide shelter and support to nearly as many asylum seekers as the number of New Yorkers we already had in our shelter system when we first came into office,” he said. Terms of the contract weren’t announced, but The Post

A high-flying ABC news producer who died outside a Bobby Van's steakhouse in Manhattan after enjoying a meal with his wife while their young daughters were left alone in a hotel room choked to death while drunk.
Dax Tejera, 37, died two days before Christmas while spending the holidays in New York City with his family. His bosses at ABC previously attributed his death to a heart attack.
Hours later, his wife, Veronica Tejera, was arrested on child endangerment charges after it emerged the couple had left their children, aged two years old and five months old, in their hotel room.

The U.S. Navy’s Diving and Salvage Center can be found in a location as obscure as its name—down what was once a country lane in rural Panama City, a now-booming resort city in the southwestern panhandle of Florida, 70 miles south of the Alabama border. (snip)Last June, the Navy divers, operating under the cover of a widely publicized mid-summer NATO exercise known as BALTOPS 22, planted the remotely triggered explosives that, three months later, destroyed three of the four Nord Stream pipelines, according to a source with direct knowledge of the operational planning.
Two of the pipelines, which were known collectively as Nord Stream 1, had been providing Germany and

Walt Disney CEO Bob Iger on Wednesday announced a sweeping corporate restructuring that will result in 7,000 people losing their jobs as part of an effort to achieve $5.5 billion in cost savings.
The Mouse House, which is under pressure to turn a profit from its global streaming business, said it would reorganize into three segments: an entertainment unit that encompasses film, television and streaming; a sports-focused ESPN unit; and Disney parks, experiences and products.
“I do not make this decision lightly,” Iger said on Wednesday’s conference call with investors,

Ron DeSantis continues to take the high road by refusing to give into the media pressing him to respond to Donald Trump's criticism – including the latest posts repeating claims that the Florida governor 'groomed' teenage girls when he was a high school teacher.
Rather, DeSantis says he wants to focus his tracks on President Joe Biden and Democrats instead of in-house fighting with other Republicans.
It comes as Trump continues to launch attack lines against DeSantis after opening the floodgates earlier this month when the Florida leader emerged as a highly popular potential 2024 primary opponent.

Has (sic) affirmative action hiring practices caused overall competence to plummet? The record appears to show exactly that.
For no good reasons whatsoever, competence was allowed to die on the vine in order to give the less competent a leg up. Not equality but superiority rules the hiring, firing, and education of Americans. Worse, many of those who were affirmatively hired do not do as good a job as those whose excellence was obvious. You can see it in customer service, which for many businesses is abysmally incompetent. There is a resentful casualness in those who are hired to serve others that would not have been acceptable even two decades ago.

The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) proposed a new rule this week that would crack down on taxing the service industry's tips.
The Service Industry Tip Compliance Agreement (SITCA) proposal would be a voluntary program between the IRS and employers that the IRS says would 'decrease taxpayer and IRS administrative burdens and provide more transparency and certainty to taxpayers.'
The proposal is now open to public comment until May 7.
The program would monitor employer compliance based on actual annual tip revenue and charge tip data from an employer's point-of-sale

When the Dobbs decision was handed down, there was much cause for celebration among those on the right. I remained skeptical. First, I believe that it is going to be impossible to legislate or litigate abortion out of existence. I think that requires a change of heart on the part of abortion proponents. And I’m not holding my breath. Second, I knew that the Left would never take no for an answer on the matter.
I was not surprised by the protests, the guerrilla warfare tactics of attacking pro-life centers, or the efforts to find workarounds to get women to states that offered abortions.
